Just what we needed!

Perfect get away for us and our 2 dogos! If you are concerned about the thread count of your sheets at home, valet parking or any other highbrow nonsense this is probably not your place. If you're looking for looking for a cute little cottage on the beach that's pet friendly, you found it. It was perfect for our needs!

Fall Get-Away

We wanted to take a mini vacation with the family and dogs and come across Hootie and the Blue Fish at 2 Fish Cay. What a little gem of a cottage. Small cottage but big enough for 4 adults and 2 larger dogs. Very clean and owner checked on us more than once to ensure everything was okay. We definitely plan to make a return trip next October!

My favorite part of this property is its vicinity to the beach!! Literally steps away and you can dip your toes in the ocean and place your feet in the beautiful sandy beaches!! Love it here!!! My favorite place in Nags Head. ❤️ Allison

Hootie is a hoot

We rented the cottage for 5 days and brought our pup along. The place was clean and well stocked with cleaning supplies and toiletries. The owner even left a treat bag for our dog. We enjoyed our stay at this property and the location.

Prime location!

The long weekend stay at Hootie and blue fish was amazing! The location is great and just a few steps away from the beach! The cottage is clean and have a nice kitchen for cooking! A great choice if you plan for a family trip to OBX!

Cute cottage in awesome location

This is our second time staying at this location. We chose it the first time because it was dog friendly and on the beach. You can’t beat the location and the price, so we came back again! We take our bicycles and ride them everywhere. Located across the street from Tortuga’s Lie and Galaxy Golf and next the public beach access, Which is handicap friendly. The owner, Dave, Is a great host and makes you feel welcomed. We will definitely stay here again when we return! Thanks for everything, Dave!

4th July vacation

Great cozy right off beach cottage. Easy access to the beach and all attractions. Owner checked with us upon arrival was very friendly and told us to make him aware of any problems we might encounter (there were none).

The cottage is a good size, was equipped with the basics. You need to bring linens, towels, etc. but I typically bring them anyway. A grocery store is nearby and easy drive. Access to the beach is incredibly close, just up the stairs and over the dune. If you need easier access, the public access with bathrooms/handicap ramp is just across the parking lot. The cottage was clean, not the way our house is clean, but clean enough. There are some obvious repairs that need to be done, but I'm sure they are an off-season endeavor. You'll also need to register the Fire stick to your Amazon account to watch TV - just remember to deregister when you're done. The owner was friendly, quick to respond to inquiries! Negatives? Not many for a small old OBX original cottage. But, although the cottages are Pet Friendly you will need to walk your dog to get to any grassy area, it's not safe to just let them out the door. Also, the grills are not usable at the moment - the grates in the Weber kettle grill is rusted nearly through. A $20 fix per grill for the owner, but we just bought a throw away type charcoal grill at the Ace Hardware and we were good. Overall, we'd stay there again if we head back to OBX in the near future.

AC was not working

This is the second time I stayed at the property, the first time was very enjoyable. This time the AC was not working and couldn’t even sleep at night. We left a day early because it could not stand the heat inside the house.

Wonderful off season stay

Our family of 4 plus 2 dogs were looking for a long weekend stay for Mother’s Day. I found Hootie and the Blue Fish the weekend before our trip. The location is fantastic! Wonderful beach access. Great hang out spot on top the dune between the beach and houses. The house was a great fit for us. Everything about our stay was truly dog friendly.

A True Gem

Although we’ve visited the area several times, this is the first time we’ve ever rented a house. Hootie and the Blue Fish was not a disappointment. It’s a small “old school” property in Nags Head which reminds us of how the area looked when we first visited Nags Head many, many years ago. There were four of us and one dog for our stay, and we had plenty of room in the house. The home was nicely decorated and in a nice location with great beach access. I will say that although we could fit both of the vehicles we took, parking was very tight for two vehicles unless you have small vehicles. We never had the pleasure of meeting the hosts in person but received quick responses from them with any of our questions before our trip. Plus, there was a nice care package to welcome us upon our arrival! Thank you to the Mansons for sharing their little piece of paradise with us!

Overall liked Hootie and the Blue Fish

The place was very accommodating for my husband and I. There are four dwellings with #1 being closest to the beach access. Hootie is number #4. Next time I would like to rent #2 or #3, but pay attention to price. There is a private beach access for all four. You cannot see the ocean because of the dune, but upon climbing the steps to get to the top of the dune there is a level spot with a picnic table, 3 wooden lounge beach chairs, and a hammock. We enjoyed that space very much. We toured the lighthouses, the history was amazing to us. We tried to see Ocracoke, which requires a ferry, but we left too late. Being off season we didn't think it would be busy, but we were wrong. Oct. 7-14, 2023 is when we went. There was still a lot of people, but not as it would be at peak season. We learned that it takes the ferry a hour and 15 minutes to reach the island. Talking to a ranger it is recommended to be there by 8:00 am. Tortugas Lie, which is in walking distance, was excellent. It was featured on triple D. Overall, it was an excellent place to stay. Only 4 stars because I thought it could be cleaner.

Hootie and the Blue fish

It wasn't our first stay at Hootie and the Blue fish! We have stayed probably 5 times. We fell in love with the little cottage and it's the location the very first time we stayed. We always try to rent it when we plan an OBX vacation.

Wonderful Week

We had the best time. Perfect beach weather the first half, and angry ocean the second, which was perfect for relaxing and taking long walks on the beach. The house was exactly as advertised, and we loved the proximity to the beach. It was a great week.

No-Stairs, No-Stress Retro Retreat

The old-school cottages at Fish Cay offered everything we needed for a safe, simple beach vacation with our two-year-old granddaughter and a mobility-impaired granddad. Everything was as described and the location was perfect: No streets to cross to walk to the beach, an ADA wheelchair ramp to the sand at the public beach next door, an all-abilities playground two blocks away, and two ice cream shops within easy wheelchair-stroller walking distance. The whole experience harkened back to the simpler (more affordable) beach vacations of our childhood —if we’d had WiFi and air conditioning back then. If you want fancy or luxurious look elsewhere (and pay a heck of a lot more for it). But if you’re searching for an old-school beach, mini-golf (directly across the street)’ and ice cream vacation any one of the four compact cottages at 2 Fish Cay would fit the bill.

First beach experience

We took our 4 year old granddaughter for her first beach experience. She loved every minute of it. The house was steps away from beach which made for easy travel to each day. We will keep this place on our list to visit again.
