Heron's Nest Treehouse · Cozy and Beautiful Island Treehouse with hot tub

Do you long for a carefree escape in nature's splendor?
Step into an island paradise in the Heron's Nest Treehouse, surrounded by tall fir and cedar trees and the beauty of Bellingham Bay beyond. The Island Treehouse comes complete with all the amenities that you need for an extra special stay - carefully curated decor, comfortable bed, outfitted kitchenette, outdoor shower house and even a hot tub!
The Heron's Nest Treehouse is beautifully constructed and finished, and thoughtfully outfitted.

See notes about May 18th to June 15th bookings below.

The Heron's Nest treehouse is an elevated tiny home. The space is open and the interesting and eclectic decor create the feeling of being in a whimsical cottage. Everything you need for a getaway in the trees is here.

The couch in the living area converts to a super comfortable double bed where you can lie back and watch the birds flitting in the trees, and maybe an owl, if you're lucky! Or watch your favorite streaming service on the projector screen, surround sound completes this amazing experience. Or go up the ladder to the loft and relax up there - there's a tv with a view window to the treehouse amenities.

Outside is the wooded wonderland complete with a cedar hot tub with a view through the trees to Bellingham Bay. An experience you will remember for years to come is watching the sunset reflect on the buildings in Bellingham and luxuriating in the tub while darkness descends around you. Magical!

Enjoy s'mores and relaxing times around the fire pit outside the treehouse. Look up at the treetops above and the stars beyond, breathe deep and truly become one with nature.

The outdoor shower house smells amazingly of the rough cut cedar slabs that cover the building. The ceiling above the shower is open to the stars and enhances your stay at the Heron's Nest Treehouse.

Back inside the treehouse, you have everything you need for an amazing stay. A double burner cooktop to prepare a delightful meal. The tiniest refrigerator you have ever seen allows you to keep cold things handy. Drop the dining table down from it's spot on the wall, (disguised as decor) and enjoy dinner in this sweet space. Every item in this tiny home has been thought out with love.
You will cherish the memories you make here.

Guests will have access to the treehouse, fire pit, hot tub and shower house exclusively during their stay. There is a cabin on the property that is also available to book during your time at the treehouse. If it is not booked with your stay at the treehouse, the cabin will be empty and unusable during your stay.

To afford such privacy as you will find at the Heron's Nest Cabin in the Trees, there is a steep driveway. Care must be taken traversing up or down the driveway.

There is an outside surveillance camera which will not be monitored during your stay. It is for security when the home is vacant.

As a professionally managed property you will receive top notch service and communication. PNW Concierge has a team ready to assist you before and during your stay.

We offer superior pre-stay information and services to ensure your vacation will be the best it can be! We prepare the Heron's Nest Cabin with you in mind, taking care of the cleaning and preparation so you don't have to worry about a thing. Lummi Island is a special place - time seems to slow down when you cross from the mainland on the Whatcom Chief. Expect relaxation and rejuvenation.

The Heron's Nest Treehouse is in the lovely Lummi Island Scenic Estates which is a community that supports a boat dock and ramp, community building, swimming lake with a covered picnic area with restrooms, and a nearby playground, volleyball court and basketball hoop.

The North End of the island has a loop road that is open to vistas of the mainland, the Salish Sea, and the islands beyond. You can travel the loop by foot, bike or by car - take your time and enjoy every turn.

There are a number of preserves on the island which offer short nature hikes, or a hike up the side of the mountain to reach a vista point that has amazing views to the south of the San Juan Islands - a must do!

Lummi Island boasts the Beach Store Cafe, usually open Wednesday through Sunday, and the Islander Store which is the hub of the island - a general store with a collection of artists items next door and the Saturday market from Memorial Day through Labor Day. There are also farm and flower stands around the island and you can usually buy fresh eggs along the roadside.

Lummi Island is home to a variety of artists who are happy to open their studios, mostly by appointment. Check out our island guide prior to your arrival.

**Our ferry, the Whatcom Chief will be at dry dock from May 18th to June 15th, 2024.

Dry dock is a special time of year for Islanders and guests alike. During dry dock the Whatcom Chief (our vehicle ferry) is taken out of service for maintenance and repairs. Whatcom County supplies a passenger only ferry while the Whatcom Chief is away.

Typically there is a parking area on the mainland side and a regularly scheduled passenger shuttle on the island. Many Islanders leave one car on each side during this time though many of them use the shuttle, walk or get rides from willing Islanders.

With far fewer cars traveling the island, there is more quiet and tranquility. The passenger only ferry gets us out of our cars on Gooseberry Point to enjoy the fresh air and scenery as we wait for the ferry. Once aboard the ferry we are able to sit on top and truly enjoy the short trip across Hale Passage. It is indeed a special time on the island.

While we believe dry dock can be a wonderful time to truly get away from it all, we understand that these circumstances may not be for everyone.

A trip on the Whatcom Chief Ferry is required to get to the Heron's Nest Treehouse. The ferry is operated by Whatcom County, and runs at least every hour between 6.40am and midnight on weekdays, a little less on weekends. Round trip fare is $14 for the vehicle and driver and $8 per passenger or for walk-ons. Fare is collected during the run to the island by the purser who will come to your vehicle to collect - credit or debit card only, no cash is accepted.

Walk, bike or drive to the house from the ferry dock and 'downtown' Lummi Island. We are approximately 3.5 miles from this area of the island. 'Downtown Lummi Island' consists of The Islander - general store, coffee and pastries, wine, beer and alcohol. Also attached is Sisters Gallery which highlights Island Crafters and Artisans.

The Island Library has books and movies, of course but also an island history section. The Island Post Office is a full service post office with limited hours, and the Beach Store Cafe has great pizza and specials every weekend.

Remote treehouse getaway
My partner and I had a great time at the heron's nest treehouse. The listing was like the picture and we were thankful for the heads up about the fridge being very small so we brought a cooler for our food. The communication with the property manager Jackie was punctual and she let us know everything ahead of time. The treehouse overall was very remote and quiet and both of us enjoyed the property!
