This beautifully restored Gulf Coast cottage is in the top 1% of all stays. It has earned this ranking by blending timeless heritage with tasteful, modern design. Built in 1871, the home is a testament to the island’s rich past and resilience—having weathered the Storm of 1900 and enduring generations of change.

The residence was recently reimagined by the acclaimed team behind the television show Restoring Galveston, who brought fresh life to its classic architecture while preserving its storied foundation. Its façade, original brick pathways, and charming coastal proportions nod to its ancestry, while the interiors have been elevated to offer every contemporary comfort.

Inside, the home welcomes up to eight guests with a spacious and intuitive layout ideal for both retreat and gathering. A thoughtful floor plan includes three elegant bedrooms, each with its own ensuite, as well as a cozy study with a queen-size sleeper sofa and convenient half bath. The primary suite features a king bed, a luxurious bath with a double shower and soaking tub, and ample natural light. There is an additional primary suite on the first floor with a king bed and a luxurious bath with a walk-in shower.

Two distinct living rooms provide space for relaxation, while the fully equipped chef’s kitchen, complete with modern appliances, Keurig, wine fridge, and island seating, creates the perfect environment for shared meals and conversation. Every detail, from the curated furnishings to the plush linens and luxury bath essentials, has been chosen with care.

The home’s outdoor amenities invite quiet moments and lively connection. A private, heated pool is bordered by a privacy fence and comfortable seating for eight. A screened-in patio offers a shaded haven for morning coffee or evening cocktails, while a firepit and outdoor shower enhance the coastal lifestyle. With gated parking, beach essentials provided, and modern conveniences like central air, Smart TVs, washer & dryer and high-speed WiFi, the home offers ease and elegance in equal measure.

We absolutely loved our stay! The house was perfect and so well stocked—it honestly had everything we needed and more. There was plenty of space, the pool was great, and all the beach stuff was such a nice bonus and made everything so easy. My kids loved it so much it was hard to leave! The area was quiet and peaceful, we felt very safe, and it was so close to the beach. The house itself was beautiful, too—the cabinetry was especially impressive and honestly a little enviable! You can tell a lot of thought went into making the space comfortable and enjoyable.We had a great stay and would definitely come back!

This house is stunning!!! It is a historical home with lots of historical finishes but also updated. It is very spacious, lots of bathrooms, comfortable beds, big front porch with rocking chairs and porch swing, nice size pool and overall, just a great place. You will not be disappointed booking this home. I can't wait to be able to stay here again. Also, Greg is a great host!! Hope anyone who books this house enjoys it as much as me and my family did!!!

Our group of 6 senior ladies loved the property! The beds were all comfortable, including the sofa bed with soft mattress topper. The pool was clean and refreshing. Perfect location! We really enjoyed learning the history of the house. We will return!

This house is MY DREAM HOME!! Me and my friends loved it there so much. There was plenty of space, and the pool was so nice! I will definitely be coming back. I will say be sure to lock your vehicles while you are there because I left my truck unlocked and someone rummaged through it. But other than that everything was perfect!! And it’s within walking distance from “local dogs” which was a really fun place to eat!

House is beautiful. Host was very communicative and helpful. The pool was great when we were sick of the beach. We had plenty of room for my family of 5. The location is perfect, close proximity to great restaurants. We were in town for soccer tournament on North Beach. It was a quick, 10 minute drive to get there. We will definitely be back. Highly recommend.

We had an amazing stay at this beautiful home in Galveston. We booked it for a weekend getaway to celebrate my wife's birthday with our family, and it exceeded our expectations.The house was clean, comfortable, and exactly as described. The location was excellent—close to everything we wanted to do while still being peaceful and relaxing. The pool was a huge highlight and was perfect for both the kids and adults to enjoy.The host was incredibly kind, responsive, and always available to answer any questions we had. I’m a little confused by the 3 stars that you left for us. That generally denotes that you had a very average stay. You requested an early check-in and even though we had a guest checking out that day and it takes four hours to clean the house, we doubled up our manpower to still get the house ready for you early. If you really need a couple days on your next vacation, I would recommend booking more than one night so that you can have a better chance of having a 5 star experience.

Beautiful Property

We just loved this property!! Everything was wonderful from the check-in until check-out. You will get a sense of history staying here. The pool was great as well as the size. It was just right for our family. We will definitely be going back.

Great Rental for a Galveston Family Vacation

We had an excellent stay! The house is beautiful, spacious, clean, and perfect for a relaxing family getaway. The kitchen is great for a family stay - organized, well-equipped, and made cooking feel easy and enjoyable. Each room was comfortable, and the layout worked great for our group.The pool was clean and just the right size for a refreshing dip, especially after a day out. We also appreciated how easy it was to get to the Galveston Pier, just a straight shot and a short drive.The hosts were friendly, responsive, and genuinely helpful.

This is a wonderful place to visit. Perfect set up for entertaining friend's and family for my birthday weekend. Cant ask for a better place to stay in my opinion. The parking is great and that can be an issue on the island but not here. We hope to go back soon. The pool is heated and cooled. That is a great bonus. Just go there you will not be disappointed.

I cannot say enough good things about our stay . The house was perfect . The communication with our host was great any and all questions was answered quickly. Has a girls trip and host notified us that early check in was available which was so great with all of us coming from out of town. The house was clean and outfitted with tons of convenient extras . Sunhats , games, Grocery staples(coffee). We would stay there again and looking forward to next trip with this host.You could feel the peaceful history with the home. the rooms were large and comfortable . The location was great for an easy drive or uber to either the seawall or the strand.

Wonderful for Friends Retreat

We had a truly lovely time. The house was immaculate, charming and had all we needed. The beds and sheets were super cozy. The decor was thoughtful and tasteful. We cooked several meals in the terrific kitchen. A little storm kept us from enjoying the pool, but we certainly will when we return. Highly recommend this gem.

Absolute Gem of The Island

We can not say enough about how much we loved our stay. This is a beautiful, warm and welcoming home. It felt more like staying at a friend or families home than it did a rental. It is well stocked with basics and beyond, no detail was missed. The front porch swing and pool are such lovely bonuses, you can really relax and enjoy yourself in any spot of the property. We can't wait to come back.

Beautiful Home

The owner provided all the check-in information before I arrived making it a seamless check in. The Home was extreamly well maintained and clean. Spacious, comfortable and relaxing. The pool was nice and enjoyable. Accurate listing description. Communication with the owner was always met with a immediate reply. Short easy drive to the beach. The home is packed with amenities. The property is fenced in with a security gate securing the driveway for great peace of mind knowing the element of security is there. One of the best stays in Galveston. Highly recommend.

We used to stay on the west end, but all there is to do is 100% beach! The fun of Galveston is all the bars, restaurants, attractions and yes, the beach. But the west end is 30 minutes from most of the fun. So we bought this property in the middle of it all. Everything is just 5 minutes away.

Voici ce qui rend cet hébergement unique

HISTORY OF THE PROPERTY: The house was built in 1871 for Walter and Caroline Ansell. Its is a five-bay-wide center-hall gulf coast cottage. Walter was a Civil War veteran and he established the Texas Ice Company, which shipped ice from Maine and Massachusetts to Galveston. This home was a 1900 Storm Survivor. As a result, parts of the island was lifted and the sea wall was built.

Part of the home was given to his son in the early 1900s. Original foundation bricks were used for the walkways and back fountain. The house has seen several owners since then but in the early 2000s, it was partially restored to its early American design. It has been featured on the cover of Houston House & Home and was featured on the Galveston Historical Homes Tour.

In 2022, Michael and Ashley Cordray from the television show "Restoring Galveston" bought and restored the Ansell house to its former glory. It has the best of both worlds - the Historic home charm but with all of the modern amenities such as a chef's kitchen, private pool, new central air-conditioning, Smart TVs and super fast WIFI! This house is a Historic Galveston Gem worth experiencing!
