Alpenglow - an atmospheric optical phenomenon which makes mountains appear to glow in a light pink or red hue. It occurs just after the sun sets or just before it rises. This is one of the most majestic sights to experience. The alpenglow over the Sangre de Cristo’s is specular! Sangre de Cristo is Spanish for “Blood of Christ” and are the southernmost subrange of the Rocky Mountains. The name of the mountains may refer to the reddish hues observed during sunrise and sunset, and when alpenglow occurs, especially when the mountains are covered in snow.
