Dragonfly Cottage, Ventage 1905 updated Home in Downtown Asheville

Welcome to Dragonfly Cottage in downtown Asheville this is a ventage but updated Asheville home. Three bedrooms featuring (non working) coal fireplaces and mantels in each. One full bed and two queen beds all with updated adjacent bathrooms. Two additional sofa beds one in living area and one in TV room. There’s plenty of room for everyone. Guests enjoy three bathrooms, equipped with a shower, bathtub, one bidet for extra comfort and two claw foot tubs. The front parlor was converted to a library/office space that offer cozy spots to relax or catch up on work. Whether you’re unwinding on the deck after a day of exploring or gathering for a movie night, this serene retreat has you covered. Drinking coffee, people watching and hanging out in the front porch swing overlooking the garden, is pure delight.
Everything downtown is walking distance, downtown resturants, South Slope Breweries, Music venues like Asheville Yards Amphitheater or Gray Eagle, the River Arts District and be sure to eat breakfast at Butter Punk In the River Arts. Make sure you drive up the Blue Ridge Parkway to Craggy Pinnacle and do some Hiking to explore nearby waterfalls. There are fabalous tours to be taken from walking food tours, paddle boats brewery tours on the French Broad River, to fly fishing tours. You’re sure to make fantastic memories with a stay at our place.
There is a downstairs apartment that rents separately. If you want both ask about a discount.It is Dragonfly Cottage Studio Apt and Hottub. It has a seperate entrance and they get the driveway as it is in front of their door. Parking for the cottage is on the street.

This was such a cute place to stay! It’s the perfect distance from downtown. We were able to walk everywhere but also were far enough away that we weren’t dealing with the noise and chaos of the city.

Fantastic stay! We were a large group. The space for everyone was awesome! The proximity to downtown was great too! No problems communicating with host, although we didn’t need to while there, just checkin and checkout. We loved feeding the birds and squirrels out back and watching them gather as we enjoyed our coffee in the mornings. Would definitely recommend!

Oh my, what a treat! Just the home was a vacation treat! An older home with many new renovations —“So Fun” with eclectically gathering of furniture! It was as much fun enjoying the furnishings as it was perusing the shops downtown. My husband and I stayed in the downstairs apartment! So well-equipped, you need not bring much of anything. Kids and families stayed upstairs. Thank you, Paula!

We had a great time at the Dragonfly cottage in Asheville! It's such a beautiful historical home, with character and personality and within walking distance to great restaurants, the art museum, and other attractions. We loved that there were so many original features in the house - beautiful fireplaces in every room, antique furniture, original baseboards, etc. Paula was great in terms or communication and attending to our every need.

Like most areas of Asheville, this neighborhood, has a high concentration of homeless people on the street. However, we had no issues with safety while staying at this house. The house is very old but has a lot of charm. We enjoyed our stay.

The house is incredibly centrally located to get to Downtown, South Slope & Riverside, around a 1/2 mile walk to get to most places. (it may not feel that way, so be sure to orientate yourself b/c it is really walkable. The 3 bedrooms were great, loved there were plenty of bathrooms, the downstairs bedroom bath is really cool! As for sleeping, you can make it work if you need the extra 2 beds. One of the beds was in the main room, in hindsight, a sleeping pad in the front study would have been perfect to allow that guest a little more privacy. The outdoor space was perfect for a morning coffee or evening beer. A bird feeder outback & BEAUTIFUL flowers out front was amazing! The kitchen/dining room/ living room was a great place to gather, puzzles, games, reading, it was perfect. We had the pleasure and surprise to see a bear wander from across the street to a near by house to eat from the bird feeder. Our family enjoyed our downtime at the house as much as being out and about.

Loved the unique home, so many fun things to look at. The kitchen was great to cook in. Had everything we needed to make some great meals. The whole family loved the birds. Having a fenced-in front yard was great for our dog. The internet was a bit slow, but we did have 7 people. Also, the bed on the first floor is best for 1 adult, maybe ok for 2 kids. Great communication with the host, always got back to me quickly.

The first thing to know is that the homeless hang out in the park across the street. The home was musty smelling, and had serious signs of wear such as torn rugs, old mattresses, and the deck area was dirty. One of the upstairs bathrooms is in dire need of an update. Scratched up toilet, dingy. The deck area had ancient dirty chairs, and the couch cushions were left outside to mildew and get bird poop on.This was clearly the renter’s home and not really a a true rental. We were told check out time was 10:00 am, yet someone came to clean at 9:30 am, while one guest was still there! This rental looks cute, but I wouldn’t stay here again. I was very disappointed. The only positives were, the location within the city was central, and the downstairs bathroom and kitchen were lovely. This place was cute 10 years ago, now it’s just tired. I’m not surprised it’s for sale. The pictures on the realtor’s site are not real. Sad.

The kitchen/family room is amazing and such a lovely hangout spot for meals, conversation and games. When weather permits, the tree canopy deck is ideal for morning coffee with bird song or a glass of wine at sunset.

The house was clean and very cute. A couple of things I would have liked to know before we went. 1 the upstairs bedrooms have window units so the doors need to be kept closed to keep them cool. 2 the park across the street is crawling with homeless people. If the house was location was different we would have been fine but the park and housing authority right across the street made a big difference. We couldn't enjoy the front porch due to profanity being yelled constantly and we were not comfortable walking on the street after dark. We had intentionally gotten a house close to downtown because we were planning to walk everywhere. Once we got there we quickly realized that would not be the case. I wish this house was located somewhere else so that the neighborhood wouldn't hurt the rental.

Downtowns these days do have homeless. I try to make it clear this is a diverse neighborhood. Asheville Tennis Club is also in the Park so it is not all homeless, they are around. A church feeds Homeless on Saturday, in the park and at a church near by Wed and Sunday. I lived in the house for almost 10 years. I am an older white lady and I had no problem. I would walk my dog evening and morning and loved the front porch.

I bought this house in 2015 to live in and to do Airbnb renting rooms upstairs. After traving in Europe I was hooked on rentals where owners lived. I had a great time with my guest. Drinking coffee on the front porch in the mornings and taking them to see my horses who were boarded at the Biltmore. After Covid things changed. I added on and built the sudio apartment down stairs that rents separately renting rooms was not happening. Things changed again after Helene and all the floods. Thankfully this house had no damage, she is old and solid thanks to a reninfored foundation and much love and care. My Biltmore deal also changed. It was too expensive to keep boarding so I bought my own farm near my daughter in Alabama. I live in the cottage when it is not rented in the winter time usually,because I love Asheville. Otherwise you will be talking to me on my farm in Alabama.
I am a retired school counselor and history teacher. I love people and hope to develop a farm experience in Alabama where people can come stay in my guest house, gather eggs, milk goats, play with the donkeys, and horses. I am from Alabama, grew up riding horses and giging frogs on the creek banks. They can stay on the farm or take history tours with me. Civil Rights tours, old south plantation tours with biscut making, and hopefully river tours on a party boat. I live in the best of both worlds in the south. Asheville and the deep south farm.
I love this house and the neighborhood.

I love my mixed neighborhood. I choose it for it's convience to everything. I love sitting on the front porch and people watching or enjoying the garden. If you are scared of difference or used to gated communities, the neighborhood may be hard to get use to. If you stay and overcome any fears of others, you will learn to love it. I have had that experience with many guest, it opened their eyes and hearts. Don't give anyone money! Just smile if asked, look them in the eye. Say bless you or anything nice, then move on. In all the time I have lived here I am a single older lady and have had no trouble.The back deck and living area is a place of retreat from all the action out front. I love this house and put a lot of my heart and sole into it. The art is mostly local artist.

Voici ce qui rend cet hébergement unique

Built in 1905, this cottage is solid and unique. The updates have been carefully done to maintain the wonderful warmth of this older home. From the fireplaces in each of the main rooms in the main house to the tree house feel of the new addition, this house has charm and integrity. The old pine wood orginal floors and new oak flooring are all are traditional choices for a home like this, The large moldings around all windows and doors was carried over into the new addition on the back. It is a grand mixture of old and new. The steam heating is still working and is the best for not drying things out in the winter. Don't mess with the lovely old radiators in each room. This house is a unique experience with old real Asheville's cool. The music venues of Orange Peal, Gray Eagle, and the Asheville Ampitheater are all within walking distantance. I walk my dog alone at all times of day and night.
