Step into History and Comfort: The Grand Oak - Your Unique St Augustine Downtown Retreat
Discover the enchanting allure of St. Augustine's rich history while indulging in modern comforts at The Grand Oak, a captivating 3-story Queen Anne vacation rental located at 28 Saragossa St just a quarter mile stroll to St George St, the heart of the Historic District. Originally built in 1891 by the Birds Eye View Artist Henry J Ritchie with 50 windows and 25 rooms, this architectural gem has undergone many transformations over the years and a meticulous 1.5-year renovation, resulting in a delightful fusion of old-world charm and contemporary luxury. If you seek an exceptional experience beyond the conventional hotel space, the Grand Oak offers the perfect blend of uniqueness and the conveniences of home. Plus quick access to 2 beaches and additional rentals close by for friends and family. Be sure and check out the links below.
The Grand Oak, aptly named after the majestic oak tree gracing the front, beckons you with its warm ambiance. Originally part of the outdoor porch, the bedroom and bath have been lovingly transformed to offer you a cozy retreat. The Greatroom, formerly the dining room, now provides a spacious and inviting living area that opens to the eat-in Kitchen and vintage paneled office providing workspace for the new “Work from Home” lifestyle. There is even a popup desk in the Bedroom so each can have their own private space. Unlike standard cookie-cutter remodels, our vacation rental is a masterpiece of handmade touches and thoughtful design. From the Shiplap headboard to the Sewing Machine table & desk, to the innovative bicycle TV console, every corner tells a story of creativity and distinction.
The kitchen boasts marble countertops and shaker cabinets with glass doors, adding a touch of elegance while preserving the period's authenticity. The marble bath with an arched alcove tub and surface-mount shower takes you back in time, allowing you to indulge in the luxuries of a bygone era.
We understand the need for modern amenities, and that's why we've equipped The Grand Oak with brand new AC, plumbing, electric, hot water, and appliances. Stay connected and entertained with Smart TVs in both the Greatroom and Bedroom and enjoy seamless Wifi throughout the house.
But it's not just the interiors that make The Grand Oak a unique choice. Our location is a true gem, allowing you to experience the "Best of Both Worlds." Downtown everyone walks and you are within a mere quarter-mile stroll to the heart of Historic Downtown where you'll be amidst the vibrant tourist attractions and an array of delightful dining options.
If you crave the coastal breeze and sandy shores, fret not! We are conveniently located just a few miles away from two distinct Beach communities - Vilano Beach just 3 miles to the north and St. Augustine Beach 5 miles to the south. Both with ample parking and amazing restaurants (I'll provide you with a curated list). To make your beach outings even more enjoyable, we provide beach chairs, towels, and boogie boards, ensuring you have everything you need for a fun-filled day by the sea.
Forget about the limitations of a traditional hotel space. Come share my home. While we reside in two of the apartments, we warmly invite you to immerse yourself in the history and comfort of The Grand Oak or any of our other meticulously renovated historic homes, showcased in the link below. Your experience in St. Augustine should be nothing short of extraordinary, and we're here to make sure of it.

We had a wonderful time at this place. It was just what we needed for a long weekend. Super close to theDowntown and within walking distance to most places. It was quiet and a lovely little neighborhood. Definitely recommend staying here.
This place was a perfect location, just a few minute walk to St George St. which is in the heart of historic downtown St. Augustine. There was plenty of room and the place was very clean.
Cozy, lovely historic house. Kitchen supplies, washer & dryer all very handy. Parking right out front of house. Very close to St. George and King Streets, easy to walk to/from shops & restaurants.
The unit was very clean and updated, plus a great location. We were able to walk to all the things we wanted to see and visit in the Historic District.
We enjoyed our stay in this beautiful apartment. We were close enough to walk to many local sites, yet our convenient parking spot made additional site-seeing easy. Linda's husband shared recommendations, too. Thanks so much for a great visit!
The location is perfect for being near the historic district. No driving needed. The host took care of a small issue we had during our stay. The place was pristine.
Perfect little apartment for our long weekend in St. Augustine. Short walk to old town and it was great to have a parking spot for our vehicle. Bed was super comfortable, pull out couch worked great for the kids.
This apartment was in a great location within historic Saint Augustine…we walked almost everywhere!!! The street was quiet and our rental had everything we needed. Highly recommend!!!
The location was absolutely perfect and we were able to walk all around St. Augustine without any difficulties. The property itself was very clean and in a safe part of the neighborhood. It was a good size for a family of three. It had everything we absolutely needed for our 4-day stay.
The location was perfect! Walking distance to shopping, restaurants, and other local attractions. Wonderful to have off street parking. The full kitchen made quick snacks or any meal prep a breeze. Both bed and bath were clean and comfortable. My only suggestion would be to add large throw pillows to the very deep couch to make it a more comfortable place to relax at the end of a busy day. Overall, we found this to be our new favorite “home away from home “ stay in St. Augustine. We plan to return.
It was as described and what's shown in pictures. In walking distance of shops and restaurants. Very nice and quiet neighborhood. Check-in was very easy. We would definitely stay again!
My name is Linda Bayles. I have been a Realtor in the Jacksonville/St Augustine area ranking in the Top 1% of Agents since 1998. In 2005 I walked into a 1926 beach cottage direct oceanfront on St Augustine Beach and knew I had found my calling. I wanted to 'Create' a vacation space for Families. Large extended families. A place were Cousins, Grandmothers, Uncles and Aunts can comfortably come together to reconnect and enjoy each other away from the demands of the outside world. I come from a large family of 5 children as does my husband, Brad. Some of my fondest memories are when we all got together to just 'hang out' for 3 or 4 days. The little ones always come up with a 'play'. The adults always congregate in the Kitchen passing down the 'Family Recipes' to the next generation and playing Games. We are a big Game playing family. Specifically Rummikub. We start them at 5 and My Mother is still going at 95. If you have never played, you must. I make sure there is one in each house. Once you are hooked and have one of your own, I hope you will think of your St Augustine stay every time you play.
So I bought that 1926 Craftsman, gutted it and turned it into The Chautauqua which sleeps 21. It has been a rewarding success. In 2011, my Father expanded the tradition and bought 4 homes on one Oceanfront compound on 9th Street. We could not believe our luck and spent the next year remodeling them into The Seaside Cottages. We started renting them in June of 2012. The Best part is not only the homes but the BEACH. There are only 18 streets on the “Best Beach” - No cars. No Catwalk. The ocean right at your door. Everything within walking distance.
In 2016 I moved to Downtown St Augustine and added 4 more Downtown Homes walking distance of St George Street, the Center of Historic Downtown and all the Restaurants, Sights and Music. It is absolutely charming at night. You will feel you are strolling an old European City. A must see
And now I have moved to this glorious 1891 3 story Queen Victorian. I have spent well over 1.5 years renovating it. I will be living in 2 of the units and invite you to come share one of the other 2. I have also started renting my 1st Downtown home called the Lemon Street Retreat. That along with the Lemon Guesthouse in back can accomodate up to 20 Guests. Great for Weddings and Family Reuntions. I hope you will stay with us in one of my 12 creations and create memories you will cherish for a lifetime.
PS: I am also a Realtor. I work primarily as a Single Agent. There are not many of us out there. Most Realtors work as neutral Transaction Agents. You can google 'Buyers Agent' to get an overview of the difference. I think it is big. Just ask yourself the question, Would I want the other sides Attorney to represent me too? That's it in a nut shell but the amazing thing is, unlike Attorneys, it does not cost you anything to have your OWN Realtor representing just YOUR interest. We are all paid by the Seller. So .... I would love to help if you are thinking about buying or selling in the area. Just call and I will send photos of what's available. Once here I would love to give you a tour of the area and take you "shopping". We can see about 4 per hour and you have me as long as it takes.
