A Trip We’ll Never Forget

Kent was kind enough to let us use his property and beautiful courtyards for our private elopement ceremony. The house is very clean, private, and the surrounding area is absolutely stunning. The location and neighborhood cannot be beat, with easy access to the park and local shops. Kent is super nice and does an exceptional job communicating and answering questions. This is such a special place, and I cannot recommend it enough if you’re visiting San Diego!!

Restful Retreat Space

Our anniversary vacation was absolutely wonderful in the Grand Treetop Suite. Pictures do not do this tropical oasis justice! Whether we were enjoying the Craftsman home's spacious porch or the gorgeously landscaped courtyard with it's fountain and percola, we felt so relaxed. San Diego is one of our favorite cities, and this property's location is ideal for enjoying the area. We were minutes away from Balboa Park's museums, theaters, zoo, and beautiful green space. Petco Park, the Gaslamp District, and the waterfront were a short drive away, too. The owner, Kent, has created a gracious and tranquil retreat. He is a wonderful host. We definately want to come back!

We had a great time in San Diego staying in this beautiful home! Spacious, clean with everything we needed for our stay there. The owner Kent was very helpful and gracious. The check in and check out went very smoothly. The property is absolutely gorgeous! The location was perfect- down the block from beautiful Balboa Park. Close to restaurants and shopping. Fabulous private tree house

Kent was a welcoming host- to a charming space. Craftsman style home in a quiet neighborhood with great restaurants and shops to explore nearby. Each window brought a new view of the gorgeous landscaping on the yards below the tree house. Excellent space for unwinding and enjoying travels!

Welcome Home!

From the moment we walked in we felt at home. All our needs had been considered and provided for. The location was outstanding. Kent's suggestions on dining and things to do were spot on. We especially enjoyed outdoor dining options right at our home. The sound of water & green canopies everywhere were so relaxing. We would highly recommend this treetop oasis!

Hidden gem with a welcoming host

I wasn't sure what to expect with my stay as I was traveling alone/didn't make too many plans/didn't know anyone in San Diego... and I was beyond impressed! Not only is this location prime, Kent was an amazing host and has put so much thought and love into making this place a home. Truly a fantastic experience and sweet escape! San Diego Oasis

Wonderful, comfortable oasis in a great, quiet location. Close to the Zoo in Balboa Park and a quick Uber to just about anywhere in San Diego. House is very spacious and beautifully restored. We enjoyed fresh lemons from the organic garden. Landlord was responsive . Highly recommend.

Our time in the treetop

We had high expectations but they were exceeded. We felt so at home and comfortable as soon as we walked into this beautiful home with its own patio and deck space. The house is in a quiet neighborhood, but is so close to fine restaurants and so much to do. After years of living in and visiting San Diego, who knew there were still places like this?

Fantastic stay!

From the moment I booked the property Kent went above and beyond to make sure our check in process was seamless. Our flight was delayed and he met us later than expected to let us in to the property and give us a brief tour. The place was perfect and relaxing. We had everything we needed from extra blankets, to items in the kitchen. I can't say enough good things. Thanks again Kent! We will be back!

All peace….

Enjoyed my stay at Kent’s place, immensely. Communication was superb. It is clean. Since I did not have a car, I loved that it is walking distance to Balboa park, restaurants and stores. Would have loved to stay longer. I just felt at peace.. “Loaded”! I have rarely stayed at a place where I cannot find something I need! Would surely enjoy staying there again. Thanks Kent.

WOW!

This place is simply outstanding. A 1920's craftsman home that Kent has lovingly restored to its full glory. He made a career of high-end rehabs and the quality, care, and attention to detail show in every square foot. A very large 1-br apartment with 2 decks, a big patio and front porch and complete privacy. There's a very interesting bookshelf and Kent even let me borrow one on the promise to return it the next time we are in town. Off street parking in a very quiet neighborhood, just outside of Balboa Park. Quiet, quiet, quiet. This is the place we will try to stay every time we come to town.

Wonderful property, with even more wonderful host

Obviously from all other reviews, this property and location are amazing, with beautiful gardens to enjoy, and easy walking to so many fun spots in North Park, South Park, Balboa. Kent was so easy to connect with, and communicated quickly at all times. The house is a perfect size for 2 people. Bed is comfortable and large! The shower has shampoo/conditioner/soap available, it has great hot water and pressure, and lots of fluffy towels to use afterwards. We grilled twice during our stay, and enjoyed the ease of the grill, the relaxing environment of the patio with water feature and pretty pergola over the seating area. It is also great to have washer/dryer available, as we were there for the SD 1/2 marathon and had clothes to clean after running! Kent and his home made for wonderful memories and experiences during our trip. Thanks!

Converted us from hotels

This was our first non-hotel stay, converted us, and we'll probably time our next trip to San Diego around the availability of this property. Kent could not have been easier to deal with and the location is great. Within a 1 mile radius you have the San Diego Zoo and Balboa Park and many good restaurants, particularly for breakfast. The large walled lot surrounded by trees and flowering plants makes it easy to forget that you are in a neighborhood. With the many windows you get great cross ventilation to keep cool even without using air conditioning and the area is quiet enough that outside noise does not interfere with sleeping. My wife spent a lot of time just hanging out at the fountain watching and photographing the hummingbirds that drink and bathe there in the morning.

Wonderful!

We had another terrific stay at this property. Kent is a fantastic host. He communicates well with guests and keeps this property neat and tidy. The rooms in this one-bedroom unit are very spacious and comfortable. The kitchen is well stocked and has things like salt & pepper and a variety of other spices, a few basic condiments were in the fridge and a nice big bag of ice was in the freezer for my water! There's a very good amount of dishes, serving bowls and pots and pans. The bed is extremely comfortable with soft sheets and a down comforter if it gets chilly. This unit has a ton of windows that keep the temperature comfortable and let in a lot of nice light. It was delightful to crawl into bed at night to the cool air and sound of the water fountain in the courtyard. Yes, the courtyard! We spent a lot of time outside in the courtyard which is landscaped beautifully, and as I mentioned has a wonderful fountain that the hummingbirds love! There's a good-sized outdoor table and chairs under a lovely gazebo for dining. If you like shade, there's a large front porch to chill out and read a book. This is such a convenient location for dining (much of which is walking distance - and we caught an amazing sunset one night on the walk back from Alexanders), hopping onto an interstate to get where you'd like to go (beach) or just going for a walk in the park which is a block away. We just had a marvelous time at Kent's place and look forward to our next visit. Thank you Kent!

I purchased this property 25 years ago, spent several years renovating its 20 rooms and installing hundreds of assorted trees and shrubs. I was honored to have this property featured by "Save Our Heritage Organization's Tour of Historic Homes" in 2007. As a long-time house renovator and avid gardener - it has been exciting but daunting to maintain these sprawling gardens year after year.. My 25+ "Regulars" who visit annually offer encouragement and support. "Wow, Kent, the gardens have grown so much since last year." Some even lend a hand with Spring weeding. I'm pleased that nearly all Winter guests of 2022 returned in 2023.

Covering 3 parcel lots, nearly an acre -- this is one of the largest residential properties in Uptown San Diego. The upper floor Treetop suite offers 4 - 5 private rooms plus its own walled tropical garden. There are two bubbling fountains on site, and dozens of visiting birds provide a peaceful backdrop as guests spend time on their sunny terrace. Some guests tease that they enjoy the gardens so much -- they neglect local attractions..." relaxing instead... at their own private resort."

Picturesque Balboa Park is located next door while Downtown is 5 minutes away, the Airport about 15 minutes west. Hidden among lush greenery - visitors are startled to discover such a sprawling oasis in the central core of urban San Diego. A special surprise are the dozens of hummingbirds, hooded orioles, cooper hawks, owls, and green tropical parrots passing through, stopping to drink or bathe in one of the large garden fountains.
