Relaxing stay

Overall the house and property is nice. Theres a small beachy area perfect for littles and we loved the screened in porch. The house could us a little updating and we did have some concerns about the well water but Darrell was very responsive and remedy the issue quickly.

My vaca

Beautiful view and water front. Nice and private location. House could use some TLC but okay. Water smells, bought water to drink. Bought light bulbs only 3 working ones on arrival. Luckily the wind shifted getting rid of the biting flies for the week. Could use outdoor lights for night time. Overall okay experience the water and view made it worth while.

Quiet and peaceful

Our stay was great. Darell was quick to respond when we had an issue. The property is described well in the listing and provided our family and dogs with a comfortable base while exploring the area. The screened-in porch, dock, and beach area provided some great fishing, swimming, and dolphin watching.

Great Vacation Spot

This place is the ideal spot if you want to cut everything off and just enjoy the views, get out on the water and do some fishing and exploring of the alligator river preserve. Owner was very receptive and gave us the history of the place. We will definitely be back. The description is 100% accurate.

OBX trip 2024

We really enjoyed our stay. The only down fall of the place was all the bugs and how far it was from everything but we made it work. The first day when we showed up the ac was not on. Causing it to be extremely hot. The ac also kept popping the breaker. I contacted the host and they were extremely helpful fixing it in a matter hrs. Other than that the stay was amazing. If you’re looking for a place on the bay and don’t mind the bugs this is it.

Rest and Relaxation

This is a great somewhat rustic cabin right on the sound. It is secluded but still relatively close to Manteo and OBX attractions, as well as all the great wildlife refuges in the area. If you are into the outdoors (hiking, birding, kayaking) you will love this place. If you are into beautiful water views and not so much into the outdoors, you will still dig it. In winter, the woodstove is very nice.

Nice Secluded Place But Needs work!

My Wife and I are not picky and made the most of our stay. I rented this place for the privacy and quietness. It is definitely both of those. One morning I watched the sunrise over a perfectly still water and it was amazing. No noise at all! We live in city and getting away from the traffic noise was great. The remainder of the time the weather just wouldn't cooperate, so we headed home early. Owner was somewhat responsive to my messages. I was very disappointed that the dock is mostly gone. House needs a lot of maintenance, and basic amenities added. Can't say we'd rent this one again. However, had the weather been good we would have stayed the full week and made the most of it.

Could be better!!

It’s a nice secluded area, 1 neighbor we only seen a few times. Drive to the outer banks isn’t real long. The “cabin” was decent, somethings could’ve been fixed up. Some burners don’t work on the stove. Toilet seats need replaced, some window frames are missing. At least 1/2 of the light switches don’t work. We had a pretty good storm come through, & the roof leaked in numerous places. Contacted Owner, he said his handy guy would be by after the storm to look at roof. We never saw him. The screens in the porch were torn, & there’s a gap between deck & and side door. The actual property needs a lot of care. There’s piles of wood laying around. There are quite a few hazards beach wise. Piles of cement blocks, some had metal in them. Weeds looked like they have been trimmed in a few weeks. The driveway is over grown with bushes, you have to drive in yard, or get car scratched up. There are a few cement barriers in the ocean, not far from the beach. A little farther out, there are some metal bars. The dock needs some work. Can’t go to the end of it, it’s missing, & not very stable. All in all, you bet what you pay for I guess.

Beautiful, Secluded Location

This house is perfect for people who want to get away from it all. The house is essentially located on the edge of a massive wildlife preserve on a dirt road with only a couple of other houses, none of which you can really see from this house. With no big nearby cities the stars are really bright, and you have a beautiful view which you can enjoy from the large wrap-around deck or from your own private beach and dock. Thankfully, the house is only a short drive (maybe 15 mins) to Roanoke Island with things to do and good restaurants or to other Outer Banks islands with their ocean side beaches (the house is on the sound). We chose this property not only for the seclusion but also because the owner was more than happy to allow us to bring our two dogs at no extra charge which is virtually unheard of! Our dogs both got to go swimming and play in the sand and had a wonderful time. A word of warning, if you do bring your dogs be aware that one of the neighbor dogs does like to wander through from time to time, so keep an eye out (one of our dogs is not good with strange dogs so we had to be careful of this). Also, the house has a bit of a slant to it, which can throw off your vertigo a bit until you get used to it. I've suggested to the owner that he add additional interior and exterior lighting, simply because it was SO dark and there are a lot of stairs outside to get up to the main level. Lastly, if you go during the rainy season it's helpful to have a four wheel drive for the dirt road and all it's pot holes and the grassy driveway which can be easily torn up when driven on. All in all though, a wonderful spot.

Great property location, poorly upkept cabin

The best part of this property was the space and solitude of the location. Our dogs were able to run free without bothering any neighbors. The beach was fun for the dogs and kids. Great fishing and crabbing off the pier. As far as the cabin itself, it was pretty rundown. The biting flies were pretty bad, so it would have been nice to use the screened porch. But, there were so many broken screens or holes, we couldn't use it. There was a window put in the dining room, but never sealed correctly around it, so you could see daylight through. I shoved paper towels in the gaps to try to keep bugs out. The inside of the kitchen cabinets were very dirty and there were multiple drawers or doors that did not function properly. The carpet on the staircase is so worn down, the sharp wooden edge shows through and my husband cut his heel going down the stairs. Both toilet paper roll holders were broken. Finally, the water pressure was lacking in the bathrooms, so my husband looked and found the water softener was leaking pretty bad. We contacted the owner right away, and he said someone was coming out to look at it. But, no one ever showed up. Overall, we don't regret our decision to rent this property. We did enjoy ourselves. But, we probably wouldn't rent again unless quite a bit of maintenance was done.

DISGUSTING. By far not up to the standards of a VRBO property. DO NOT COOK WITH/DRINK THE WATER.

Upon arriving the key lock box is not secure. All you have to do is press the reset/open button and it opens without a code. There were dirty utensils and lots of trash in the yard, cigarette butts in cups throughout the property, and there is a large puddle of sewage against the house where there is an open pipe from the bathroom toilet that drips part of the flush every time you flush the toilet. The smell is awful. There was used coffee grounds in the coffee pot and the pot not cleaned. The toaster had food scraps burnt to it, the microwave had nasty melted cheese and such stuck to the inside and door, the fridge has old nasty liquid stains on the shelves/door, the floor under the trash can platform has food and sticky spoons and such that must have been there for months. The tables were not wiped off, vacuuming was not done, dust on most surfaces. We have no issue with the older furniture and understand it is a cabin in the woods. It needs cleaned between guests. We contacted the "host" with a very minimal reply or concern. One smoke detector has no battery in it, the other does not work with a battery in it. The grill on the porch is disgusting with old food cooked into it, the two older grills were just pitched behind the house to rust once they were no good. There is an open pipe about 10 inches wide going down into the septic tank with just a loose little wooden cover barely large enough to cover it. SO MUCH MORE but not enough space remaining. I have LOTS of pics.

Spectacular view

The cabin is Beautiful, clean. The view Is spectacular from the deck and inside from living room or table. We caught quite a few drum and sheepshead fish about a dozen crabs. The outdoors shower is my favorite. Never thought I’d love an outdoor shower. Best place to vacation!!

Waterfront Cabin getaway

Beautiful tranquil setting. Very quiet and private. Enjoyed sunrises and sunsets everyday. Easy access to water/Sound with our kayaks and SUP. House is as described in listing and by most reviews, more of a rustic cabin feel. A little run down, could use basic fixes as mentioned- new toilet seat, screens and dock, lights/switches repaired, etc. The A/C struggled to keep the place cool during hot afternoon hours but cool in morning and evening. Lots of dragon flies around yard and beach which did not really bother us, no biting flies thankfully! All in all a lovely stay that would have been improved by a little TLC.

Great location

This is a cabin in the woods. It’s rustic and a little outdated but the location makes up for it. If you are wanting all the bells and whistles of a fancy house this is not for you. We come from the mountains and this property was just what we were looking for. It does need some TLC in some areas as mentioned in other reviews but it wasn’t anything to ruin our vacation. We are simple folks so it didn’t bother us at all. The biting flies were not that bad just take some bug spray. The property owner was very responsive when we couldn’t figure out the TV situation. Wi-Fi was good. Water pressure was great and plenty of hot water for showers. The views are amazing! The only neighbor was very nice. Fishing was ok. We didn’t have luck like the other reviewers but maybe it was just our bad luck! We had a great vacation and would stay here again. Thanks Darrell for sharing your property to make great family memories!

Secluded and beautiful location

House is more like an old lake cabin. If you go in with that expectation, you’ll have a good experience. The location is what makes it a great rental.

The private beach, the dock for fishing and crabbing, the beautiful sunrises, the space for your pet to run around, all the household amenities you need are here! What isn't here is the over crowding of beach homes with no yard for family and pet fun. We'll be back!!!

Old world

Loved this cabin! It remind me of old Florida where I grew up. On a dirt road so if you are looking for privacy this is it. You can see the water from every window. It has a screened porch. You can have a bonfire right on the sand beach. A dock to fish off or swim. Great place to kayak. Or bring your boat or jet ski. The sun rises are gorgeous! Far enough to have privacy but still close enough to do all the tourist things if you want.

Perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle.

This cabin was perfect for the type of vacation we were looking for. We didnt want to be in the city, but wanted to he on water. Couldn't ask for a more perfect location.

Great Getaway Spot

Loved the location and the privacy afforded. Close enough to everything so that you can enjoy the bells and whistles of the OBX but far enough where you can don’t have to deal with a lot of folks. My family enjoyed everything about the trip and couldn’t have been happier. Fishing off the dock in front of the cabin is really good as well. I highly recommend staying here if you’re looking to decompress and getting away from the hustle and bustle.

Property description is spot on. Rustic cabin, no luxuries. If you're looking for that, look further. We loved this place! Private, great for families. Dogs loved it. Only downfall, biting flies. Calm water. Easy to just float! Will be back!!!

Yellow flies, plumbing issues, not clean

I cleaned the home dusted, swept floors, got down the cob webs,wiped counters, sinks. Even bought some glass cleaner and did a few windows. I did not mind the cleaning, but the yellow flies in Mann’s Harbor is terrible. We were bitten every time we went outside. It did not matter how much bug spray flying insect spray etc they were awful. We came home with bug bites whelps all over. Plumbing was backed up in shower down stairs. Screen out of porch door. Mice in kitchen at night. Just needs a lot of TLC, new plumbing.
