This charming 1940's cottage, located in the historic district, is decorated in a retro 50's style that even Lucy and Ricky would love! Grandma's comfortable living room in the front of the house, plus the fun Hawaiiana den located in the back, will give you plenty of room to stretch out or break into groups after a full day on Cumberland Island or shopping on Osborne Street.
Gather the whole family in the fully appointed kitchen with large dining room, complete with a vintage chrome and red vinyl dinette set that seats six. Matching red barstools are stationed at the breakfast bar. Thanksgiving has been celebrated here with no problem!
Sleeping accommodations are comfy and quiet, with the exception of Sunday mornings when something special happens. By 9AM you'll be lulled awake by the ringing of church bells. The Episcopal Church, across the street, begins reveille and is soon followed by the Presbyterians on the corner and the Baptists and Catholics down the block. The roomy master suite has a queen-sized pillow top bed and an adjacent bathroom complete with shower, bath, and double vanity. Two additional bedrooms, each with full beds, share a hall bathroom with both shower and tub.
You'll enjoy the large backyard, graced with beautiful Live Oaks. The large wraparound deck that overlooks the backyard is complete with a Weber Kettle grill and four chairs. A good place to spend some quiet private time.
Morning coffee, while sitting on the front porch, is the best place to acquaint yourself with this quintessential Southern town. You WILL be greeted by the parade of locals and visitors as they make their morning rounds. I have never found a more friendly place. The people of St. Marys are its greatest asset. So, wear your best pajamas! And say, "Hey!"
My favorite thing to do while in St. Marys is to walk or bike to the waterfront park, morning and evening, where it is possible to enjoy both sunrise and sunset over the water. I also enjoy packing up my beach chair, umbrella, lunch, and a good book, and then taking the 45-minute ferry ride to Cumberland Island (the ferry landing is 4 blocks away.) Spending a day on the beaches of this rare and pristine barrier island is wonderful. |
