Harbour Oaks is a gracious, 1937 brick estate in Bristol, Rhode Island right on Bristol Harbor which has been totally updated with new marble kitchen, bathrooms, air conditioning, whole-house stero, etc. This brick and clapboard estate is on five private acres with vegetable, fruit, cutting, and perennial gardens, surrounded by stone walls, with an oak allee entrance drive, ancient beech trees and a dock for swimming and boating, as well as a deep water mooring suitable for a 40-foot boat. The house overlooks Bristol Harbor and is adjacent to a 350 acre park and a 20 mile bike path. No smoking, please.
The house has been completely updated with new kitchen and bathrooms. The huge kitchen with marble counters and travertine floor includes two sinks, a restaurant Wolf six-burner plus griddle/broiler two oven restaurant stove, a Sub Zero refrigerator, two Bosch dishwashers, a second refrigerator with icemaker, pantry with a large, antique German silver sink, family room, breakfast table for six people, large sitting room overlooking the water and a second seating area with fireplace including gorgeous harbor views.
The kitchen and front entry hall both open onto a huge bluestone and brick patio facing east and south with beautiful water views. A second bluestone patio is situated off the main terrace and surrounded by lavender plantings. A sunroom with outside shower off it, faces south and east and enjoys views of both the water and the large, formal perennial garden. The perennial garden features a fountain in the center, with a clematis arbor framing the harbor, four traditional painted iron tuteurs, rose beds in shades of pink and peach, and seasonal plantings in pink, lavender, blue, and peach.
Living areas on the first floor include the huge kitchen/sitting room, a formal dining room with fireplace, furnished with an antique British yew table seating up to 16; living room with fireplace and comfortable furniture, small library/office and a second family room with a large flat screen TV and a fireplace adjoining the large sun porch. High speed Internet access is available in several locations as well as wireless connections. In addition, there are three televisions, VCR, DVD players, a central stereo/CD system, and cable television service with HBO.
The second floor, which is accessed via either back or front stair halls, consists of large master bedroom (queen-size bed) with windows on three sides with en suite marble bath including bidet, tub, and shower and heated floor, a large dressing room filled with closets, three additional bedrooms, one with a fireplace, sharing a large new bathroom with shower and two additional bedrooms sharing a new marble bathroom. All upstairs rooms are newly carpeted. Bedrooms consist of three queen beds, two double beds and one that can be either two twins or one king.
The house is fully air-conditioned and de-humidified. Rental includes all bedding and linen and maid service once per week (additional maid service can be arranged), croquet and badminton sets and four bicycles. Large lawns are perfect for games or a wedding/party tent.
Harbour Oaks is adjacent to Colt Park, and the beginning of the 20-mile Bike Path, which runs along the water from Bristol to Providence and convenient to the Bristol Yacht Club.
Bristol Bristol is one of the oldest towns in Rhode Island and one of the most picturesque. It is on Narragansett Bay, about 20 minutes from Newport or Little Compton and a half hour from Providence. The town itself has interesting shops, excellent and varied restaurants and a sailing history. The famous Herreshoff America's Cup Defenders were built on the town's waterfront and a marine museum commemorates the Herreshoff history. In addition, Linden Place (where parts of the Great Gatsby were filmed), Mount Hope Farm, an 18th century mansion and grounds, and Blithewold, a world-famous mansion and arboretum are a bike ride away from Harbour Oaks. |
