Thalassa is magnificent!

What a majestic place! Our only regret about our stay at Thalassa is the amount of time it took us to write this review. The house sits amongst the tallest hills on the island of St. John (Hawk Hill), and from the moment we arrived we could not get enough of the views. Beautiful blue waters, island breezes and serenity at its finest. My wife and I wanted to get away and relax, and quite frankly we could not have picked a better place to go. We intend on making Thalassa a recurrent trip for us. The beaches are absolutely gorgeous, and are all just a short drive from the house. The outdoor showers are a very nice touch, you can watch the sunrise while taking a shower each and every morning. We found ourselves going to bed earler than expected each night, waking up refereshed and surrounded by paradise. Tim, the gentleman that helps with the hosue is extremely warm and helpful. He was a great tour guide and helper. We can't wait to come back to Thalassa!
Owner response:Seth, thanks so much for your thoughtful and poignant review. It was a true delight having you both stay at Thalassa. We can't wait to have you return again soon!

Our personal tree house

Our stay at Thalassa was a dream! Tim met us at the ferry terminal and quickly guided us through the rental process and then led us on the short, 5 minute drive to our personal tree house. That is what it was affectionately called by us after we explored the 360 decks and views afforded by being on top of this hill with NO obstructions. The lack of central air is quickly overshadowed by the southerly breezes that whisk off the ocean all day. It literally felt like a big luxurious tree house with amazing views that was built just for us. Normally a late sleeper, I found myself going to bed at 9 or 10pm and waking with the sun in the east bedroom. Of our 7 mornings, I only missed one sunrise (which I regret missing!). We caught at least 4 beautiful sunsets from the house as well. I'll say it again: you CANNOT beat the views from this house! We were often rushing to get back to the house to get a glimpse of the sunset because it was way better from the house than anywhere else we could think of! You'll need a 4 wheel drive vehicle to get up to the house, but those are easy to obtain through the rental companies. There is a great grocery store within 2 minutes of the house that is a bit cheaper than the nicer market closer to Cruz Bay. If we go back to St. John (I'm working on my wife now!), we will DEFINITELY stay at Thalassa!
Owner response:It was lovely having you stay at Thalassa. Thanks so much for the thoughtful and evocative review - exceptionally kind and helpful of you. We will be delighted to have you come back again soon!

We vacationed at Thalassa for a long weekend and were very happy with our stay. The welcome we received from Tim was wonderful. It was a nice touch to be met at the ferry, much less be taken to our rental car agency and to the grocery store before taking us to the house. He took the time to make sure we had everything we needed and was always accessible during the duration of our visit. The house was well maintained and we greatly appreciate the little things like beach chairs, towels and the cooler. As with all the other reviews, the views from this house are amazing. The showers are outside so we found we only had a small window during the late afternoon when it wasn't too windy or chilly to shower but this is probably only an issue in the winter/spring. I would recommend this property to anyone looking for a nice relaxing vacation. It was very close to Cruz Bay and easy to get to the beaches.
Owner response:It was an absolute pleasure having the two of you stay at Thalassa! Thanks for your informative and thoughtful review. We would welcome the chance to have you return - anytime!

Stayed around Christmas time, and loved the house. it is unique, with truly unrivaled views for both sunrises and sunsets. The setup is also great with bedrooms separate from the main house, and lots of covered terrace space for lazy afternoons. Outside showers are something to get used to, but in fact a fantastic idea. Nothing fancy, but everything one needs is there. Will definitely be back! One note: I would suggest that one gets a 4x4 as the last few yards on unpaved road are pretty bumpy, and the road up to the house is a pretty steep incline.
Owner response:Thanks so much for your comments and for staying at Thalassa over the holidays! We're delighted that you had a nice time and enjoyed everything from the simple comforts of the villa to its panoramic views. Fair point about the bumpy street - like many roads on St. John, it certainly does have "character!" Whenever we stay at Thalassa, we've found that basic 2WD gets us up the driveway without a problem - but we can definitely understand your point that 4WD wouldn't hurt either. And since so many roads on the island are rugged, we'd recommend 4WD for everyone to make getting around as reliable as possible. Thanks, again, for choosing Thalassa. We'd love to have you stay with us on your next visit!

We very much enjoyed our stay and even though the road was a little rough getting to the house, the panoramic view was wonderful. I found myself getting up at dawn each morning to watch the sun rise. I also really appreciated having internet access because I own an IT company and I have to keep "in touch" with servers, partners, etc. Both my wife and I very much enjoyed the way things were thought out in the house (& outside) and how extra food/water from previous guests were left behind because we've been places where you have to throw everything out or take with you. Your caretaker/manager was very helpful and a good guy. He was a welcome sight after our long trip to get to paradise. The only problem I had was that the shower on the main house never got hot. One had to be brave to take a shower in it. I did twice. Thanks again for hosting us and I hope to come back next year.
Owner response:Thanks for your thoughtful comments! We're delighted that you enjoyed your stay. Thanks to your feedback about the shower, our manager has now fixed it and it gets warm more quickly. Please do let us know if you ever have an issue like that at Thalassa on future visits, and we can have him try to resolve it right away during your stay. Thanks again for choosing our villa. We would love to have you back next year!

This was a villa with a beautiful location! The views are great. Definitely need a 4 wheel drive for the driveway! But then all of St. John is pretty adventerous driving. The beach chairs and cooler came in very handy. The only drawbacks are the beds which are very hard and uncomfortable, and the bathrooms need some updating. I would come back if I knew the mattresses were replaced. It was pretty hard to sleep at night. Other than that it was a nice stay.
Owner response:Thank you, Jory! Thanks for staying at Thalassa. We are placing this month an order for new mattresses because the comfort of our guests is very important to us. We appreciate the candid feedback and are committed to doing everything possible to make your visit at our villa as enjoyable as possible. We're glad you enjoyed your stay and look forward to having you back again in the future.

Wow. What a view. Ocean vistas for 270 degrees from all angles around the house. And the gentle breezes from the sea keep the whole place a perfect temperature all day. So comfortable. So private. Thank you so much.
