Ancient oaks adorned with Spanish moss and resurrection fern stand like sentinels over this lush property. Blooming flowers, the scents of jasmine and orange blossoms beckon the newcomer to look a little further. Find your way to the observation deck where the only sounds you will likely hear are those of mother nature. Shore birds, migrating song birds, hawks and owls, not to mention a wide array of mammals large and small.....The smell of salt marsh, coastal grasses glisten golden with each sunset and are transformed to bronze at sunrise.
Appropriate tides will lure you to kayaks that are here for your pleasure, or take the cottage bikes on a scenic ride to the waters edge....Recently added, a cooling outdoor shower at the observation/sun deck for our guests pleasure and an enclosed dog park so you can relax and your pup can explore....A special treat for those who love bird watching. Oaks of Edens unspoiled coastal marshes and woodlands support countless migrating and native birds...
So come and find out what our guests already know, that Eden is a little slice of heaven on the Georgia coast....

Owner's Map of Darien

My wife Susan and I completed the cottage in November of 2007. The cottage along with the main house were designed and built completely by us and our two sons over the past four years. My background is in engineering and industry, my life long passions are organic gardening, art, and music. Sue is a secretary; who apart from being my right hand and best friend, loves her porch overlooking the marsh with a good book, crafts, family and a good nap. We both are enjoying spoiling our guests more than we ever thought possible and hope to do so for many years to come............

Very impressive!

What a pleasant stay. The owner is very helpful and welcoming and can give you lots of information on nearby activities. We were given wonderful fresh vegetables and fruit and a "welcome gift" of home made banana bread. The cabin is very well constructed and tastefully furnished. We did not take advantage of the kayaks or bicycles that are available but doing so would be add to your overall pleasant experience. The area is very scenic as you would expect from the photos. Jekyll Island is nearby if you are seeking a nice outing for your dog.

This was the greatest vacation ever. The cottage is beautiful, quiet and safe. I was traveling alone and did not fear for my safety at any time. John and Sue are excellent hosts. John gave me directions to the places I needed to visit. The chocolate chip bread was very good also. I hope to visit again with them!

A Birder's Paradise

Guest: Mark and Dorothy (WA)
Date of Stay: 09/15/10 Review Submitted: 10/05/11

My wife and I spent a great week at the cottage and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. When we travel, we typically seek to stay in a natural setting, and since I'm a serious birder, if it is particularly birdy that's a big plus. Oaks of Eden Cottage excheeded our expectations on all accounts. It is uniquely situated in an excellent mix of healthy natural habitats that are full of birds and provides all a person needs to be comfortable. And it is within easy diriving distance to other natural areas including Okefenokee and Harris Neck National Wildlife Refuges as well as Civil and Revolutionary War historical sites. Suffice it to say we never lacked for new and interesting things to do and would like to have stayed longer. In addition, John and Sue were wonderful hosts! They were very generous with their time and provided excellent advice that greatly helped us plan our activities. The extroardinary birding opportunities the area offers may draw us back in the future, and if so, we'll certainly seek to stay at Oaks of Eden.

Perfect for a quiet retreat - beautiful live oaks and views of the marsh.

Guest: farmgirl (Middle Georgia)
Date of Stay: 09/26/11 Review Submitted: 10/02/11

We spent 4 wonderful days at Oaks of Eden. Explored the historic sites and ate seafood. The kitchen is fully stocked for breakfasts and boiling shrimp for dinner. Although we didn't grill out, there is a grill. Nothing has been forgotten in terms of tools for cooking if you'd like intimate dinners. Quiet, peaceful, dark at night for the most relaxing night of sleep that you could have. John and Sue went out of their way to pamper us. Wonderful, warm hosts. You won't be disappointed in this little retreat on the Georgia Coast.

Owner response:Thank you Jane and Harold for choosing Oaks of Eden as your retreat. We enjoyed having you here and hope you both come back to celebrate your first anniversary. Sue and John

Beautiful Setting

Guest: Glen and Glenda (Ky.)
Date of Stay: 07/09/11 Review Submitted: 07/22/11

Great stay, great setting, great host. We got tired of florida every year and looked for something different. We saw the cottage on the marsh on vrbo and decided to give it a try. The setting was beautiful and very peaceful. It was everything the reviews said it was, and more. The location was good for us to sight see St Simons, Jeckyl Island, and Savannah. Thanks John and Sue for the peppers, tomatoes, bread, and blueberries.

Owner response:Thank you for staying with us at Oaks of Eden Cottage. Your comments inspire us to continue on the same path providing wonderful memories to our guests.

We enjoyed our stay at your cottage over the 4th of July very much. The cottage was great and your hospitality was very much appreciated. The bread and tomatos were enjoyed by us both...thanks you. You have a great little cottage and the fact that it is so well kept and very clean is an added bonus. We enjoyed meeting you both.

Jungle paradise for a city dweller

Guest: Kevin & Maria (Sutton Coldfield, United Kingdom)
Date of Stay: 05/19/11 Review Submitted: 06/08/11

What a great cottage and what a great location - splendid isolation with only nature for company. After a few weeks touring Savannah and Charleston this was the perfect place to chill out and relax before the long flight back to England. Spent 5 nights at the cottage and loved every minute of it. The hummingbirds, lizards, woodpeckers, cardinals, gators, crabs, herons etc where wonderful and John and Sue gave us some great tips on the best places to spot wildlife. Really enjoyed the bikes and chatting to the locals on my journeys. Skippers Fish Camp is a really friendly restaurant at the rivers edge about 10 miles away and a trip further south to Jekyl Island was fascinating - the food and service at the Jekyl Island Club was great so give yourself a treat. Sue and John were perfect and gracious hosts who helped to make a stay at their cottage the perfect end to our holiday. Thankyou

Owner response:Thank you Maria and Kevin for your kind words, folks like your selves make our efforts worthwhile. John and Sue
