The DC Waterfront District:
Washington, DC Southwest Quadrant including DC's Waterfront district is actually composed of four separate sections:
The Southwest Employment District, the area between the National Mall and the Southeast/Southwest Freeway (Interstate 395) that contains the Smithsonian museums along the south side of the Mall — including the Hirshhorn Museum, the National Air and Space Museum, the U.S. Holocaust Museum, and the Museum of the American Indian — as well as L'Enfant Plaza and a large concentration of federal office buildings for Executive Branch departments and the U.S. House of Representatives;
the Southwest Waterfront, between I-395 and the Potomac River, a residential neighborhood that is home to the Maine Ave Fish Market, Arena Stage, the Washington Marina, and Hains Point; East and West Potomac Park, a conjunction of two national parks between I-395 and the National Mall that contain the Tidal Basin, the Jefferson Memorial;
The Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial (West Potomac Park continues into Northwest and includes the Lincoln Memorial and World War II Memorial, both of which straddle the Southwest/Northwest boundary); and the area south and east of the Anacostia River containing Bolling Air Force Base, the military installation which together with Naval District Washington, Naval Research Laboratory, and Blue Plains sewage treatment plant occupies all of the Southwest land between South Capitol Street (to the east) and the Anacostia River (to the west).
Caution: The immediate neighborhood surrounding the townhome has undergone a transition in the past several years to become up and coming area to live due to many new developments nearby including the New Nationals Baseball Park, but currently is still urban.

Just wanted to say thanks for making our stay in DC so carefree. Jim was incredibly patient with us, the House was much bigger and nicer than I had imagined, and I put all the washing machines and dryers in the kitchen to good use! And all that without any hassles on your part. Brilliant.
Cheers,

Hi Koo,
Just wanted to thank you for the perfect house we had for our visit to DC. The location was beautiful. Also it was close to the metro and only two stops from The Mall. It was quiet and clean. We had everything we needed plus having the computer in the house was definitely an appreciated "extra." We have raved about the townhome to our friends and hope that some of us will have the luxury of enjoying the DC townhome some day.
Warmly,
Scott and Denise

We can not say enough about our accommodations and your hospitality both were terrific The House location with a Safeway, Pharmacy and the Metro just a few blocks away, the street made easy access for our needs and travel. A short walk to a enjoyable river front cafe made our evenings relaxing. The house was awesome - spacious, clean, comfortable. All made for our family's DC experience a terrific one thank you - we will be back!
Thanks,
Mark, Washington State

Excellent Stay

I flew in from Miami to Reagan (DCA) on Christmas Day for a one week stay. The neighborhood seems a little rough (and it is described as "urba")at first glance but I did not have any problems walking around day or night. I actually got quite a few "Merry Christmas" and "Happy New Year" greetings while walking around; more than I would have gotten in Miami. The listing was accurate and the photos did not do the unit justice. I had a great time staying here with another adult and three teenagers. There are two train Stations (Navy Yard and Waterfront) that are about .5 mi away. From there everything in DC is just a few minutes away. In the unit is a big tv, newer model washer/dryer, a computer with broadband, and plenty of space to lounge around and relax in. There are not a ton of restaurants around but we ate breakfast and dinner at home each day and lunch was usually while we were out and about. There is a Safeway supermarket, which is in front of the Waterfront Train Station but if you are shopping for a week I would suggest you take a taxi to the house. The property manager was available to answer questions whenever i needed and there was excellent communication before and during the stay. I would definately stay here again and I have already recommmended the place to several friends.

I just wanted to take a moment to thank Tina and Jim for the opportunity to stay at their recently renovated town home in the Southwest/Waterfront part of Washington D.C. This two floor, two bedroom/bath town home is only one block away from the Washington Nationals Stadium and within brief walking distance of the Anacostia River and Washington Channel. It came outfitted with the following: - a very large flat-screen and sound system in the living room - all hardwood floors - a modern personal computer and wireless internet access - both first and second floor bathrooms have showers and toilets. (I particularly liked the first floor marble-like shower with overhead shower head) - a modern heating/air-conditioning system with spot remote controlled a/c units in the upstairs bedrooms along with fans - the kitchen has all the basics (fridge, microwave, washer) and also hosts the washer/dryer. - a patio with a table and chairs sits in the back with a privacy gate - parking available in the rear of the building with access from the patio. The townhouse is within blocks to several corner convenience stores, a Chinese take-out, and a dry cleaner. A real plus was having the local Metro bus service accessible from directly across the street (as of September 2011 it is designated as Route 74) which will take you to the nearest CVS and Safeway, Waterfront access points, and Convention Center / L'Enfant plaza from which you can get to the subway and other Metro routes. I enjoyed the unique layout of this space that allows a plenitude of light to come in especially through the skylight that is positioned in the ceiling of the stairwell leading to the second floor. I might also mention that the Master bedroom has a nice sound system in it also; both bedrooms have televisions with cable access as well as the kitchen. This place is evidently perfect for a group of sports fans, a family, or me -the business traveler. The neighborhood is friendly and I was always getting caught up in conversation with the locals. This is a very active area with children coming and going to school and neighbors gathering in front of households to chat; though once you close your door the sounds are barely audible with the brick walls. You feel safe with the local police constantly roaming the area. Cab service is plentiful with many of them stationed closely nearby. I am going to truly miss this place and glad I made it my choice for my first visit to Washington D.C.

The townhouse was only ok. There was only a fair selection of cookware. No cookie sheet for baking. We had a problem with the air conditioning when we got in from a long day of sightseeing and were unable to reach anyone by phone for help with the problem. We spoke to the property manager by phone but never saw him in person. We had a parking space at the back of the unit which was one of a rowhouse. Since we had not been given a key to the back door, we had to walk around the block to use our car. Very inconvenient! And none of the management staff ever called us to see if we were satisfied with our unit or if we needed anything. Oh and if you have a handicapped person in your group, this unit cannot accommodate them.

We had a wonderful time during our visit to your Nation's Capitol. Jim was very accomodating and made it easy for us to feel comfortable in our new surroundings. As far as the neighbours are concerned, everyone was very friendly and helpful with any questions about getting around, where to shop etc. Our kids are going home with a new understanding of the love of country. The condo itself had plenty of room for the 7 of us. Our only complaint is that 1 week is not nearly enough time to take in everything that Washington has to offer. We will be back!
