Visit the German/Swiss community of Altus. Our guest house, circa 1879, has been home to 4 generations of the Post Family. Renovated with modern amenities, it is able to accommodate small or large groups. During Prohibition the hidden wine cellar on this property was never discovered by the revenuers. The fully furnished house contains 8 beds in 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, vaulted ceiling living room w/ TV, DVD, VHS, & stereo, furnished kitchen, large outdoor viewing deck and an adjacent outdoor covered fireplace room with an attached 3 car pavilion. The home is located immediately west of historic St. Mary's Catholic church and enjoys the same magnificent view of the Arkansas River Valley and the South Boston Mountain Range. Centrally located to all area wineries, it's a heavenly place to stay.

My sisters and I spent a week at this guesthouse and it turned out to be the perfect getaway for us. Located near the historic St. Mary's Catholic Church, this 5 bedroom home with its strange rooms and staircases turned out to be so charming, cozy and comfortable that we felt right at home. At the fire pit, we roasted hot dogs, made s'mores, told stories about each other, and laughed and laughed. Also, steps away, incredible views of the valley just added to the ambiance of this house. All of this was made even more special by the historical and personal accounts given by the owner about the house, the church and the Altus area. Finally, we were very surprised by the number of things do to in this part of Arkansas. Visiting St. Mary's Church and the nearby Subiaco Abbey, touring vineyards, and shopping for antiques in the surrounding towns made the days fly by. Many thanks from my family for the opportunity to stay in this beautiful home which we highly recommend.Recommended for: Girls getaway, age 55+.

You have no idea of the treasures you will find in this location and in this house. Spacious and the best night's sleep ever, including home! The air, the wine country, the view. Did I mention the view? Post Family Winery is a must stop shop, and meet the Post family and the very special people that work with them. Unique and very, very special. Loved every minute with my wife. Outside covered fireplace an additional treat.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

My husband and I were looking for something different to do and within driving distance of South Texas. We love wine, enjoy beautiful surroundings, look for a spiritual experience in all that we do, and of course want a clean, comfortable place to stay that is somehow unique. What a pleasure this trip was was! Toured the vineyards, wineries, traveled to a nearby monastery, and enjoyed Mount Magazine all within driving distance. Lots of rich history and don't miss St Mary's Church within walking distance of the home. Don't wait until the last day for that! What a treasure! Plus a fabulous view and wonderful hosts that make you feel amazingly special! For Dining, check out Kelt's Pub. Bistro quality food.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

I stayed at this charming home the weekend of October 22nd with 6 of my girlfriends. We had a wonderful time! What a inviting comfortable home with plenty of room. We danced, laughed, drank a little wine, sat by the fire and got to catch up! This place is exactly what we all needed...a break from reality....a break from the busy city, TV's, phones...etc.... What a beautiful view! I would recommend a stay here to anyone looking for a nice relaxing quiet getaway. We plan on coming back real soon!! Thanks to my friend Joseph and his family for welcoming us and opening this charming home to us! You guys have given this home a very comfortable lived in feeling....maybe it is because it was home to you and your 7 children! You for sure feel the love in this home! Thanks again for one of the best weekend getaways I have been on...and it was only 40 minutes from home!! -JenniferRecommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful stay at this beautiful and peaceful place. It is well-appointed and sits atop a mountain overlooking the Arkansas River Valley. It's quiet and restful; absolutely no traffic noise. We slept very well. The home looks onto St. Mary's Catholic Church, which is listed on the Arkansas Historical Registry; a must-see while you are there. The church is a magnificent cathedral! The property is located within easy reach to great tourist's spots for sightseeing. The owner's description of the property is accurate. You will not be disappointed; truly a wonderful home.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

If you are looking for a place so peaceful and quiet, if you are a lover of nature like St. Francis, wanting to get in touch with the Divine - with your feet still on the ground - then, this is the best place for you. I assure you I wasn’t dreaming. Come and see for yourself. MY friends and I found this house on high grounds of Altus, overlooking Arkansas River Valley. The house itself is very rich in the history of the Post-Duerr family that preserved the Post Familie tradition. I loved the way they have maintained the century-old wall, now in harmony with the modern day household amenities. Touch the wall and you will have a feel of being connected to the real persons who lived there years and years ago. Taste their wine and you will have a taste of the hospitality of the family. Thanks to Joseph, his brothers and sisters, I was able to speak with Uncle Matt and Aunt Betty. This house is just several yards away from the historic Parish Church, St. Mary Catholic Church. Also rich in history, as well as, Church symbolism, you will be instantly drawn to reverence and prayer, the moment you enter the church. With such a reflective setting, you will have the luxury of beginning your day with God’s blessings in the Mass celebrated early in the morning. (I wish I could have previously arranged celebrating the Mass myself during my visit.) I would recommend this to my friends, to the clerics and religious I know for a weekend or even a week-long getaway or group retreat and other form of spiritual exercise.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, people with disabilities, girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: Our cousins from Texas treated their parish priest to a couple of days in Arkansas wine country. The priest was able to see first-hand the vineyards and winery where his parish's mass wine has been grown and produced for over a century, but we believe, the high light of their trip was getting to spend time in and around the beautiful and historic Saint Mary's church located across the road from our guesthouse.

Probably the best nights sleep I've had in a long time. Beautiful view. Great for a couple, a family, or a retreat. The atmosphere is perfect for unwinding. If you want "a little slice of heaven" then this is the place. Stop by the winery. Visit St. Mary's church. Locals are friendly and helpful.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, people with disabilities, girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

Upon arrival, we knew we had found a unique place to stay in the midst of Arkansas wine country. The Post's hospitality made us feel like we were part of the family. I enjoyed Joseph's story on the place's history. I've traveled Arkansas. Never have I lodged at a house with such a unique view overlooking the Arkansas River Valley-beautiful! I like the location because it is near the highways, yet isolated from the day to day activties. You'd never know there was a town below the mountain. The house was clean and the owners were informed of the areas attractions and events. We stayed with five aldults and five children and the accomodations were good. The children loved sitting buy the outdoor fire pit roasting marhmellows. I will also make plans for a fall getaway when the leaves change colors soon-without the kids.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.
