Situated next to the picturesque pastel painted cottage houses of Hillgate Village and right in the middle of one of the most exciting parts of London this 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea is ideal as a base for any London vacation. Perfectly located to explore the whole of London or simply as a starting point for London walks, you won’t be disappointed if you choose to make our family apartment into your own ‘London home’ while you stay in this wonderful city and enjoy a taste of being a real Londoner!

The apartment is just off Kensington Church Street which connects Kensington High St to Notting Hill Gate. It is surrounded by art galleries, antique shops, coffee houses and great restaurants including Kensington Place, one of London's iconic restaurants and the first of London's modern brasseries.

The apartment is literally minutes walk away from both the famous Portobello Market to the north and the wonderful shopping experience of Kensington High Street to the south, and yet still only a short taxi ride or a few stops on the ‘tube’ to the West End and the heart of London’s Theater-land. The newly opened Westfield Shopping Centre is 15 mins away and contains virtually every major retailer from Laura Ashley to Marks and Spencers.

Shopping for food is easy with excellent supermarkets and an organic famers market shop all very close by and an enormous Whole Foods supermarket that stocks everything you could dream of on Kensington High Street which is 10 minutes walk. If you get stuck for basics there is a a small 24 hour supermarket on the corner.

To the east stroll to Kensington Palace where Princess Diana lived and then on into Kensington Gardens for a delightful walk across Hyde Park, central London’s largest green space with it’s own boating lake and swimming area. Here you can admire the Princess Diana fountain and the Peter Pan gardens, before reaching the Royal Albert Hall and the world famous museums on Exhibition Road, including the Victoria and Albert, the Science and the Natural History. Horse riding and tennis courts are available in Hyde Park. To the west stroll around the Japanese gardens and glorious flower beds of Holland Park, stop for a snack in its popular cafe among the ruins of Holland Park House or book a seat for the summer season’s open air theater (summer program available on the website).

To explore further afield simply hail one of the many cabs that pass by on Kensington Church Street or take the 2 minute walk to Notting Hill underground station which gives you easy access to anywhere in London via the Central, District and Circle lines, including Heathrow Airport. If you prefer to travel on the famous red London buses then bus stops for routes to Chelsea, Buckingham Palace, Harrods and Oxford Street are all within a 2 to 3 minutes walk. Several pay & play golf courses are situated within easy reach around London, and 'long boat' tours of London's extensive canal system can be taken from nearby Paddington Lock and Little Venice.

Alternatively, if you fancy driving round London, then parked right outside the apartment is a rental car belonging to the ‘Car Club’. Following a simple membership procedure you can drive the car by the hour for a low price that includes the inner London congestion charge and parking bay fees within the borough of Kensington &Chelsea. Remember to drive on the left hand side of the road though!

Many quaint little old London pubs are within a stones throw of the apartment and definitely not to be missed is a visit to our personal favorite, the Churchill Arms, London's ‘Pub of the Year’ in 1999 and the first to offer a genuine Thai Restaurant on it’s premises at very economical prices. We highly recommend trying at least one meal there or just order a take-out to eat at home.

The apartment is wonderfully light and spacious with a panoramic view from both sides across the rooftops of London. All the rooms feed off a central corridor and each room has it’s own views across the rooftops. Although the apartment block is Edwardian (King Edward followed Queen Victoria) the interior of the apartment is tastefully and stylishly designed for modern and comfortable living while retaining its period character, and there is an elevator as well as the stairs.

The front room is furnished with Italian leather couches, beautiful original Chinese paintings, old English hunting pictures and a period fireplace (decoration only). There is a large flat screen TV, a music system and free wi-fi internet.

There is a fully equipped kitchen with double oven and gas stove top with a full complement of accessories for cooking including serving dishes and a full luxury dining set if you choose to eat at home, and along with the dining area this part of the apartment is designed to be very much a social space. It can sit 8 adults comfortably and you and your guests will enjoy sitting around the hand-built apple wood table just as much during the preparation of your meals as you will for the enjoyment of them.

The master bedroom has a queen bed, with continental wooden shutters, its own flat screen TV and DVD player, plenty of closet space and an en-suite bathroom. The second bedroom has a double bed with “Shabby Chic” bedding and plenty of closet space. The third bedroom has Laura Ashley decor, a 4ft double bed and a couch which doubles as an extra single bed if needed. All the bedrooms have a period decorative fireplace. Crisp white cotton linen is provided for all the beds.

Both bathrooms have been newly refurbished featuring bath tubs with integrated showers with unlimited hot water and plenty of white towels provided.

We provide a care package of essentials for guests when they arrive such as wine, coffee and things you might need to get settled right away.

We are sure you will enjoy making this your London ‘home’ for your stay, and know you will want to return again!

This flat was in a perfect location for my friends and me. It was in an area close to where we used to live, there is a lot to do right around the flat and it's very close to the tube stop to get anywhere you want to go in London. I am a runner, and the proximity to the park was also very much appreciated for me to do my daily runs. The flat itself is quite spacious (considering it is in London) and there was more than enough room for the 5 of us. I would recommend eating at the Ark nearby, which is a very nice Italian restaurant that has been in that space since the 60s. I'd also recommend the Churchill Arms, which is a great pub that also happens to have good Thai food. There is also a Starbucks very near, which was important for our group of American coffee-drinkers. The owner and their neighbors were very responsive answering our questions and giving us helpful tips. We felt well-prepared before our stay and were quite comfortable during our stay. We absolutely loved this flat and would stay here again in a heartbeat.

We spent a week at this wonderful apartment with our extended family and two tweens. The location was fabulous. A very easy walk to the tube and very easy to catch a taxi. The flat was very comfortable and had everything we needed. We loved the Churchill Arms and the Thia restaurant in the back. A great vist!

My wife and I had been to London once twenty years ago before kids and felt this the perfect opportunity and place to stay with our 16 year old son and graduating 17 year old daughter. Everyone had their own bedroom and the eat in kitchen and living rooms with rooftop overlooks were perfect in creating a feeling of being spread out and as if we were residents of this magical city. Every feature and quality was exactly as described. Nearby grocery shopping at Tesco and M&S Food were a 5 minute walk with a wide array of cuisine selections equally close. The Notting Hill Gate tube stop proved invaluable as it was two blocks away and our principal mode of travel for 9 days. All arrangements and communications went off without a problem. All in all we could not have enjoyed our stay more.

After travelling around Europe for 30 plus days in varying quality to discover this gem with all the amenities of home was the icing on the cake for our Holiday. Four children and two adults were very comfortably accommodated. The lounge area was big enough for all to spread out and the Kitchen had all that you would want. We stayed a week we could have stayed a month. The locality is absolutely first class with the Whole food grocer in High street Kensington a real gem and the Churchhill Arms not 50 metres away. The atmosphere and Thai food are top shelf this is surely one of the best pub's in London. Great deli's small restaurants all within 1 minute walk in either direction. Tube and bus service is outstanding. I could not recommend this property any higher. It would be be a pleasure to return to. Dealing with Judy and Ellie was a delight as they could not do enough for us. This was our first experience of VRBO but not our last

This flat was the perfect spot for our family's visit to London. My husband and I and our three children and my husband's parents enjoyed the lovely apartment and the surrounding, vibrant neighborhood. We felt like real Londoners, not just visitors. Hoping we can return in the future!

The flat was exactly as described and did not disappoint. Our family of six had a wonderful albeit short visit in this lovely area of London. Perfectly situated to explore all the major sites of the city. If you're fortunate enough to be at the flat on a Saturday, don't miss the infamous Portobello Road market. We would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a more relaxing way to stay in lovely London.

This flat was the perfect place for our family of 6 to stay for 10 days this past spring. The flat itself is clean and cozy - it is truly home away from home. No hotel could have served us any better. The photographs do not do it justice. Would also like to mention the super fast responses from the care-taker when we had questions about the free wi-fi. The single best part of this flat, though, is its location. The neighborhood is lovely, safe and quiet, but you are only steps away from the Tube. The Notting Hill Station has many lines passing through it, which makes it exceedingly easy to get where you want to go without switching trains all the time. Walking distance to so many local eateries, pubs and groceries made "living" here a pleasure. We would stay here again and would recommend this flat to anyone visiting London.

After having lived in London for five years (just off High Street Kensington) my wife and I wanted a flat that was convenient to our old haunts (quaint shops, excellent restaurants, pubs and transportation). This flat has it all – location, location and location. The Churchill Arms is a short walk away and it has the best Thai food in London. Clarke’s restaurant and bakery is nearby as are high-end wine bars and great antique stores. As for transportation, the Noting Hill tube station is just a short walk away and a bus stop is right around the corner. The flat itself is very clean and comfortable and a great place to relax after the theatre. It has charm and reminded us very much of our pervious flat in London. All in, this flat is a winner.

The flat is in an excellent location. Short walk to Hyde Park and away you go to the rest of London's central area. We had a bit of a time finding the right subway train to Nottinghill Gate. It's a nice place with everything you need. If you don't have it, the stores nearby do. The property was just as described and it was clean and well maintained. There was a welcome packet with maps and local information. That was a nice touch. The Churchhill Arms is just up the street, great pub. Highly recommend this place and would stay again. Randy, Phoenix, AZ, USA

This is a lovely, bright, cheery, sparkling clean apartment. We took our four daughters in June and absolutely loved it. It is spacious, beautifully decorated, very welcoming, in a fabulous location, and we recommend it highly! We were such a short walk to the tube station, groceries, Portabello market, Kensington gardens, excellent local restaurants, etc. The best part is that this neighborhood, though convenient, is not overly touristy. Staying here gave our family the experience of really living in London, even if just for 8 days. The owners and their adult children take loving care of it, and they gave us wonderful insider tips in terms of where to go and what to see. We are grateful and hope to return in the future.

Owner response: How lovely to get exactly the reaction from a guest family we had hoped for! We loved the area and flat when we lived there as a family and to be able to share our experience, if only for a few days, with guests is delightful. I know my daughter and her husband will be thrilled to have a review like this, complementing their hard work and enthusiasm to allow people a great stay in the city we love so much. Thank you!
