Charming Restored Country Planter's Cottage

A quaint 1836 southern Planter's Cottage tucked away in the lush countryside ten miles south of Natchez. Oakwood, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is one of few Natchez homes still owned by the family for whom it was initially constructed, and contains many of its original furnishings. Cattle are produced on this typical working plantation, which has been operated by the Sojourner family since 1814. Oakwood takes pride in being recognized by the State of Mississippi as one of its oldest family owned farms.
The restored cottage is one of Mississippi's unique residential essays in the Greek Revival Style, drawing architectural distinction from its finely detailed and well-proportioned Greek Doric facade. Among the unusual features of the house are the second story garret rooms and a pair of matching mantels that are unique in the Natchez area. No modern comforts and conveniences were spared in the restoration and redecoration of Oakwood.
The cozy two bedroom cottage is surrounded by rolling pastures, fish ponds and moss-draped oaks. A marvelous front veranda is the perfect spot for morning coffee and evening refreshments. Down-home southern folks will welcome you!

We stayed at Oakwood for a girls weekend get together. It was so peaceful and everything was so nice. The breakfast provided in the morning in the dining room was wonderfull. We enjoyed sitting on the porch and the lovely home interior. We plan to make another visit this year for our girls weekend since we enjoyed it so much.Recommended for: Girls getaway, romantic getaway, age 55+.
