** We are happy to negotiate longer stays during the off-season.**
Contemporary, artistic, Dwell-magazine aesthetic, fully furnished four season lakehouse with stunning views of Lake Bomoseen.
The house has full lake access with dock, canoe and kayak included. Private, idyllic and a birdwatchers' paradise -- herons and turtles nest on the grounds, and a waterfowl refuge is on the other side of the lake.
Two bedrooms, both with queen beds, one with gorgeous lake view. Spacious sleeping loft is perfect for teenagers. Comfortable screened porch. One of the best features of the house is the huge living room window facing the lake where you can watch stunning sunsets and bird life.
Concrete counters, reclaimed wood floors, recycled cabinets, all-new appliances including gas stove, dishwasher and W/D. High-speed internet.
Designed by environmentally conscious architect with superior insulation and zero VOC paint. Low-shed dogs preferred.
Our part of the lake is perfect for kayaking, bass fishing and relaxing. To swim, Crystal Beach is a mile right down the road. (It's too marshy to swim right off our dock.) We're also minutes from Prospect Pointe Golf Club, Green Mountain National Forest, Castleton State, Green Mountain College, Hubbardton Battlefield and great hiking, antiquing and rails-to-trails biking. To ski, we're about a half hour from Pico, Killington and even closer to Mooslamoo.
Brand new four season home, insulated to the max with gas heat and terrific passive solar. Wonderful in winter and summer.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for a week over winter holidays and it was overall an excellent experience. The owners and property manager were very considerate and beyond helpful and were prompt to respond to any questions or concerns. The cabin was very cozy with lots of light and had a crisp, clean and modern feel to it. However, one detail I missed from the pictures was that the cabin is actually right on a main road. While it is definitely quiet enough, you occasionally remember you are in a town on a lake and not off near Walden Pond. Perhaps the only real con is that there are absolutely no shades or coverings on any doors or windows. This of course makes for beautiful light during the day, but at night left us feeling exposed, especially because the master bedroom's full-length glass door looks out towards the main road. Most likely spring and summer foliage provides much more privacy, but in the winter this is something perhaps to keep in mind. (I made a make-shift curtain out of a blanket to cover the glass bedroom door). Also, we recommend if you are staying during the winter months to drive/rent a snow friendly car. Our rental did not have four wheel drive and thus we got snowed in for a day and a half during a major snow storm. Other vehicles seemed to have no problem. As well, bring a snow shovel for the driveway. As to not sound like a broken record, I'll just state that I agree with everything positive the other reviewers have written thus far! To reiterate, Pros: -Beautiful lake view- you feel as if you are on the lake -Well equipped kitchen -Efficient/green technology (e.g. heat was very quick to heat up) -Location (many little towns nearby and activities for all seasons) -Owners/manager fantastic people to work with -Nature surrounding you -Very, very clean and comfortable -Overall feeling and energy of cabin is very positive and good Cons: -A little too close to the street on a main road -No shades or curtains for windows/doors in the cabinRecommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, romantic getaway, pet owners, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

Exactly as described and a great place for two. The cottage is whimsical, elegant, funky, and designed around the view of the lake; extremely important, since we were there in early November and knew we probably wouldn't be sitting outside. We did get out in the kayak one day -- lovely. The lake is serene and beautiful in sun and cloud. The house is on the quiet, marshy end of the lake, with lots of waterfowl and great sunsets. Absolutely delightful. The owners were easy to work with and up-front in making sure we knew what the cottage is like. The house is on the road but, at least in November, the road isn't busy and with the windows closed there was no noise and very little light from vehicles. In fact, other than the small house across the road, there are no neighbors visible from the property and you really have a sense of being alone on the lake. Too marshy for swimming, but they have a canoe and kayak and their own dock. The house is clean and warm, the beds are comfortable, the kitchen is reasonably well stocked, but bring your own coffee grinder. No microwave -- but we came to cook, so it didn't matter. Coffee maker but no teapot. The ladder to the loft is as steep as a bunk bed ladder and about twice as tall. I personally wouldn't worry about my kids climbing up or down it -- they're tree climbers -- but most elders and anybody scared of heights wouldn't be able to do it. Down is harder than up. The cottage has 2 bedrooms plus the loft over the kitchen/eating/living area, but very little privacy; part of the whimsey is some interior windows. It was perfect for a couple but I can't see bringing our kids unless we intended to be out and about a lot; they aren't experienced enough to be out in the canoe or kayak alone and there's not much else to do outside without traveling. The area is beautiful but we mostly snuggled in and enjoyed the cottage for 3 days. We had one lovely dinner in Vergennes at the Black Sheep Bistro and stopped for supplies at the Castleton Village Store (look it up). The owners have lots of recommendations for eating, hiking, biking, shopping, and other activities. We'd go back in a heartbeat and certainly will recommend it to others. Many thanks.Recommended for: Age 55+, sightseeing, romantic getaway, pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway.

Thank you for sharing your Lakehouse with us again! It is truly beautiful and unique place to spend time away from it all. The views are breathtaking. We spent our time cooking, playing scrabble and relaxing as the snow glistened on the lake. We look forward to returning for another season on the lake. We left relaxed and rested. The house is very clean, with all the comforts of home and has nice linens provided. The owner is extremely nice and friendly. Thank you again--Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, romantic getaway, pet owners, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

I'm from the Burlington, VT area--and was looking for something a little different for a long weekend out of town. This house delivered! It's an easy drive from Burlington through some of VT's prettiest towns--plus I had the great excuse to go to an area I hadn't visited before. The house was wonderful--very new, crisp, clean, and just plain interesting to take in. The cantilevered floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the marsh are amazing--along with lots of other unexpected features like uplighting over the marsh, and beautiful wood slab desk consoles. I'm a housesitter who telecommutes for an IT company, so this house's reliable, high-speed connectivity was fantastic. I was also hugely appreciative of the uncluttered simplicity in the decor--as I typically live amongst other people's belongings often. Here, I felt the house was completely mine while staying over. The pub up the road is gorgeous. We will most definitely come back to this beautiful, easy vacation house!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, romantic getaway, pet owners, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

You can tell a lot of thought went into the design of the house. The description of the property is exactly spot on. A wonderful getaway for nature lovers. Great location! The owner was so accommodating and helpful with the entire process. Loved our stay!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

Searching for a quick getaway, my husband and I came across this rental. The pictures, along with the written detailed description of the Eco-Conscious materials used to build this home, drew us in immediately. As soon as we entered the home,we knew this place was going to exceed our expectations. The views overlooking the raw marshland (especially at sunset) were absolutely breathtaking!Everything you need is here..The owners provide a wonderfully put together information package, chock full of places to visit. In the future,we would like to come back during the snowy months to take advantage of the winter sunsets. And we know this place will be warm and cozy. Thank you for sharing your home. This house was absolutely perfect for our hiking/swimming/relaxing VT vacation. The location is great, not to mention the house itself was incredible! It is a beautiful area of the lake where you can see blue herons and frogs and other marshland critters. The house is brand new, immaculate, "green", and super cool. VERY nice kitchen implements are provided, as well. The screened-in porch allows one to enjoy the cool summer nights without the bugs. The owners provided a folder with a TON of very helpful information and maps - we got almost ALL of our outing ideas from them. :) A great option for small and large families!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, romantic getaway, pet owners, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

About the owner: We work in DC but we're Vermonters at heart!
Why the Owner Chose Bomoseen:
We love this part of VT and have relatives in Castleton and Poultney who manage the property for us and will be available to you if you have questions or problems.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
The lakeviews are incredible -- it's a wild, rugged lakeview and all the more extraordinary for that. And we appreciate the cool factor of our place --it was designed by an award-winning architect with a careful eye to both aesthetics and enviromental impact.
We're just a mile away from the terrific Lakehouse Pub and close to the historic Hubbardton Battlefield. We enjoy walking around there with our dog, as well as running or biking on the rails-to-trail in Castleton. We also enjoy visiting the farmer's market in Rutland, one of the state's biggest, and having a great meal at one of its terrific resteraunts before a performances at the Paramount Theater there.
Mostly though, our house is a calm, inspiring refuge from the hectic pace of our daily lives.
