Albuquerque house description

High vaulted ceilings of tongue and groove pine and rough cut beams make up clerestories and lofts in nearly every room in the house. The open floor plan of the living room, dining room and kitchen make entertaining ideal. Private patios and sundeck offer additional 'rooms' to meet and relax with friends to enjoy geese, ducks, heron and crane as they travel the Central Flyway directly overhead.

The spacious master bedroom provides two additional sitting areas to read and relax well isolated from the front of the house. Similarly, the front guest bedroom also provides a sitting area in the loft with views of the Bosque neighborhood.

Wonder out the front door and down to the Rio Grande Nature Center and Rio Grande River using the arroyos that crisscross the Valley connecting to the 4300 Rio Grande State Park (search: emnrd.state.nm.us/prd/rgnc). Use this same network of dirt trails to run, hike and bike for miles and to lead to the paved trail that runs from Corrales to South Albuquerque past the Zoo and and BioPark (search: bioparksociety).

Watch for balloons overhead and at the river doing Slash and Dashes (search: albuquerque splash and dash) or catch a ride from the many professional outfits available in the area.

Slip down to Old Town to buy jewelry or just sip a margharita with a big plate of enchiladas. Red is slow to fire with a sustained glow. Green flashes with the first bite. Which is hotter? Just depends on the batch. Try them both. Have them on the side. Or go 'Christmas'.

Like to drive? Yards, not miles...though it may seem like miles when you tee up at 5000' and watch your ball roll forever down the fairway. Try the 17th championship tee at Paako: Par 4, 419 yards. You are even with the top of a ponderosa pine. If you are a long ball hitter, you may well drive this green. Go ahead; try it.
And if you are trying to knock off the top 100 courses of the US, you will make progress in a few days right here in Albuquerque. Or, if you just want to play a few rounds of golf without breaking the bank, then there are plenty of municipal and other public courses that offer the same spectacular scenery found elsewhere with plenty of challenge on well-kept fairways and greens. (search: golfnewmexico and golf-link albuquerque)

Want to try your luck off the course? Most of the top courses are at casino resorts that offer top gambling venues with games and prizes that include cars and piles of cash.

Speaking of resorts, the Hard Rock is only minutes away by car. And all of the casinos feature national acts throughout the year (seach: itsatrip). Local venues provide nightly choices of rock, jazz, piano, theater and more. Let us know your interest and we will play concierge.

Are you a foodie? We have been accused and want to help you find special places to dine as well as provide you the opportunity to create your own meals from our unique ingredients that are nearly impossible to find elsewhere in the country.

And if you like beer or wine with your meal, then we have the tips for the outstanding microbreweries and wineries located minutes from your door.

Ready to daytrip. Drive the Jemez Mountains, lunch or dine in Santa Fe, cruz the Turquoise trial to the Mine Shaft Tavern, tour the oldest pueblo in the US - Acoma (Sky City) - and hear stories of the conquistadors. Continue onto the Ice Caves in the Land of Fire and Ice. Walk the ancient ruins of the Anasazi. All the while you are getting these kicks you will be cruising various stretches of RT 66.

Stretch your legs on the hundreds of miles of trails in the Sandia and Manzano Mountains that border Albuquerque or through the forests of Santa Fe.

Seattle back into your comfortable abode and open the window wide in the summer to let the cool, desert night air lull you into a deep, enchanted sleep in summer.

Remember to layer up your clothing year round as the average temperature range varies 35F or more from night to mid-day. Summer highs of 95F with evenings in the 60Fs and winter night lows of 13F are followed by days of 50F.

A vacation ot the Land of Enchantment is like no other. The scenery, scents and succulent cuisine will linger long after your return home and draw you back again.

Keywords: Lofted, adobe casa with hard wood, brick and carpeted floors.

You will feel the charm with your first steps into the home.

Clerestory lofts throughout, open floor kitching/dining/living room floor plan with sunken kiva fire pit.

Outdoor rooms of patios and sundeck to enjoy geese/heron flyover pathway - sometimes just 20 feet above you.

Roadrunners scoot around the neighborhood.

And the kid's can have a hideout in the master loft.

My family was looking for a house in ABQ for a week during our move from Texas to Idaho and was thrilled to find this house which was near old town and all the great kid friendly activities. Not only did the house work for my kids, it was also super for my 2 dogs who had a great time in the backyard running around and hanging out in the sun. Jim was super fast in responding to any of my questions and provided everything we needed for the week. The house had all the amenities to keep the kids fed with mac-n-cheese while my wife and I enjoyed some great local food. As for the location, it was 10 minutes to old town and there was a nice co-op grocery store just down the road about 4 minutes away making it easy to get food. The house was spacious, super clean and having Direct TV was a nice break from our usual Netflix and Hulu offering. The house is on a cul-de-sac with friendly neighbors who waved hello. If you are coming to ABQ for a few days and want to be near all the great activities and have plenty of space for your family and dogs then I highly recommend this house. As this was our first time using HomeAway we are extremely pleased with the experience and a big part of it comes from Jim and his house.

Owner response: Steve, It may be hard for me to live up to my reputation with this kind of review, yet I appreciate the kind words. Jim

My friend and I had an amazing time at Casa Bosque! The location is perfect - close to the Rio Grande, Old Town and the Bio Park (and of course, the Flying Star and Lily Barrack :) ). Our host, Jim couldn't have been more welcoming. He made sure that our stay was comfortable and inviting. The house itself was beautiful and fully equipped for entertaining. I will definitely be staying at Casa Bosque in my future trips to ABQ. Cheers Jim!!

Had a wonderful time all around. The backyard is fenced in which was great since I had my dog with me. The kitchen is huge and fully equipped - did a bunch of cooking. At the end of the street is a nature preserve, as well as a walking/biking trail that goes along the rio grande for miles. AND its only a few minutes of a drive from Old Town, which is a lot of fun to walk around. Owners are great people. Would definitely love to stay here again the next time I'm in ABQ.

If your idea of an Albuquerque vacation is sitting in a cramped 10th floor hotel room ordering room service shrimp cocktails, this is not the place for you. If, instead, you would like to experience gracious Southwest living at its' best book now. Planning your next day's activities while sipping a fresh Margarita (owner may share his recipe with you) in front of a a roaring fire in the Kiva fireplace is more like it. This wonderful adobe home is located in the heart of the soul of Albuquerque, the close-in North Valley. Situated on a quiet cul de sac lot just a short walk to the Rio Grande River with its' miles of walking and cycling paths you will not be disappointed. We lived in Albuquerque in the '70's & '80's and after owning several homes here, we finally settled within a quarter mile of this home. We know the area well and can recommend it without reservation. The owners are attentive, friendly and gracious. If we could add a sixth star in this review we would.

This is a lovely home located on a quiet cul-de-sac with quick access to biking and walking trails. Also a short ride to Old Town. We totally enjoyed our stay in the clean home with up to the minute amenities. We had Balloons over head in the mornings. The quick access to the interstates made all of the regional attractions seem very close. This truely felt like a loved home.

My family absolutely adored our two month stay here. Being a film family we have stayed all over the country in many types of houses but without question this has been our favorite. We have twin toddlers and found the owner's to be so helpful and accommodating to our needs (baby proofing as well as really moving in). Jim and Joy were delightful to deal with and you could feel that this home was so cozy because they made it that way. The house itself has everything you could possibly want from kitchen equipment to linens, you will want for nothing. The passive solar adobe is the perfect foil to the heat of the summer or snow in the winter (we had both scenarios during our stay)! The house has all the true New Mexico charm of a real adobe house and if you've never experienced one you will be in for a treat. The location is just perfect for anyone who wants to commune with nature! The Rio Grande Nature Center is blocks away and the Rio Grande River a few steps from that. I took my toddlers out on daily walks (twice a day) and there is a wonderful quaint irrigation ditch steps from the house...we saw ducks, horses, geese, and always lovely neighbors walking their dogs. One of our favorite parts of the house is its location on a cul-de-sac. The kids adored being able to run around and play and we enjoyed not having to worry about traffic! There are so many bike trails in the area as well, all the surrounding streets are quiet and wide. I grew up in Albuquerque and know the city very well and honestly this was my dream house. I was so happy to have been fortunate enough to be able to spend some real quality time here. Much thanks to Jim and Joy for extending a real gem of a house for others to enjoy!

The entire experience was amazing, the Bosque Casa was perfectly co-located to everything. My family did walks every morning and evening, we especially appreciated the uniqueness of the house and how cozy it was.

                              Owner info

                              Year Purchased: 1990

About the owner: We love traveling and we find that we like adventure in our food, yet we prefer if not predictablitily in our accomodations, then at a minimum pleasantness. Now that you have delved this far into us, we will tell you that pets are in fact negotiable, though with limitations. Our dog has always traveled with us in the States until he has reached his present, advanced age. Now he stays with one of several friends who vie for the opportunity. We expect pets to be loved and respected. Leaving them in a bathroom for a day would not be loving, nor respectable for instance. Similarly, we treat our surroundings probably a little better than we do our own home...out of respect. That is why we ask for a relatively high damage deposit. VRBO wants us to tell you about us more directly it seems. We are both professional workers, meaning either our white collars have a touch of blue or our blue collars have faded to nearly white. We ski, hike, bike, cruz, hang and do just about anything that involves sun and friends.

                              Why the Owner Chose Albuquerque:
This house was a first home-purchase and it is a perfect example of New Mexico modern architecture with its archs and adobe. Both of us are from the East and love living in the West with all the sunshine. We embrace and like to share the beauty of the high, plains desert of New Mexico. it is truely the Land of Enchantment where your batteries recharge. Party meccas are elsewhere. This is the place of good food, good friends and a good place to put away a good book by Mark Twain or your favorite author as the sun slides over the western horizon. And the varied sights and senses with in an hour or so are spectacular. 13,000 foot peaks to ice caves to lava flows to radio telescopes to skin walkers (grab a Tony Hillerman book for that last one).

The Unique Benefits at this House:
Have you ever seen a road runner from ten feet. Just like your favorite movie star, this cartoon character is shorter then you expected. How about seeing a field full of blue heron and Canandian geese. They are all steps from the door step. And red or green? That is the question. Once you have a few tastes of the state chile, you will be hooked as a regular guest returning for the cuisine.
