We chose this place for a girls birthday weekend...it is large, comfortable, well maintained, clean and was just perfect for our needs. We lounged dockside playing scrabble and drinking wine in the sun, we enjoyed the hot tub in the evenings, and we cooked meals in the well furnished kitchen. The owner is very easy to get a hold of and was very concise with instructions and information about the place. We will rent again, I am sure.

Wonderful, small wedding.
Wonderful, small wedding.
We held a small wedding at the house. We had it Friday (set up day), Saturday (day of the wedding) and for a few hours Sunday (for clean up). The house was a perfect size to get ready in and had plenty of room for friends to stay the nights with us. The kitchen was more than adequate to prepare all the food and serve it. All the guests raved about the game room. The bed in the master bedroom is one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in. The yard had luscious grass and the garden area was beautiful. It was the perfect setting for our small, backyard BBQ wedding. The greenery and flowers and trees and bushes surrounding the house really gave the wedding a homey, yet classy feel. The photos look great because every picture has a wonderful background. I couldn't be happier with the outcome of the day and everything the house had to offer. This was the best day of my life and I couldn't have picked a better setting to hold it. If I ever need to hold another small gathering, or if I'm looking for a place to stay and relax on the Delta I will definitely rent this cottage again.

Wedding rehearsal dinner location
Wedding rehearsal dinner location
My son and his fiance were having their wedding at the Ryde Hotel in Walnut Grove. I looked for restaurants in the area for the rehearsal dinner but couldn't find any that looked quaint enough or laid back enough for 23 people to get to know one another complete with a 2 and a 6 year old. I also was looking for a place to stay near the hotel for my family were we wouldn't have a long drive after a long day and night after the wedding. This home was the answer to all my wishes. It is so charming. The English garden courtyard with it's fire pit provided a perfect back drop for families to mingle and get to know one another. The house itself feels truly blessed, as if angels are watching over its inhabitants. We packed in most of the plating, stem ware, silverware etc., but forgot a few needed items which their stocked kitchen was very capable of providing. The game room was decorated so cute and very personable. We added a scarf from one of the tuxes and a boutonniere to the upper wall as it looks as if happy travelers have all left a little memento from their great time there. Can't rave enough about this beautiful place. My grand daughter loved the boat dock and the tire swing in the magic garden. Beautiful, beautiful place. The owners are very lucky to have found such a magical haven. Thanks for sharing it : )

Exceptional home and facilities on the Delta
Exceptional home and facilities on the Delta
Home away from home with the added benefit of having our boat just as available to use like our car is. This home is beautiful, comfortable and welcoming, we had a wonder time and were sad to leave. I have no doubt that others will enjoy it as much as we did.

Great Location for Skiing and Wakeboarding
Great Location for Skiing and Wakeboarding
If you enjoy boating activities you'll love this location. The weather during our stay was on the cool and windy side, but the house and the river is well protected from the wind which made our stay more enjoyable. The Delta Cottage has a good layout. Big open kitchen, multiple dining areas, good size TV/living room and of course the popular game room with bar and pool table. Plenty of outdoor seating and the added touch of the fire pit makes for a pleasant evening outside. The outdoor Jacuzzi was also a perfect way to end the day after a long day on the river. Our only complaint was the walk across the road to the boat dock, but once there you have the whole Sacramento Delta as your backyard and that is what we came for.

Our stay at the house was remarkable. The house fit our family, 2 jet skis and boat perfect. The boys had fun playing pool and then sitting in the Jacuzzi all night. The surround sound stereo was not working that weekend and we were credited $100 for the inconvenience. The kitchen was perfect and had everything we needed to cook dinner. The patio and yard were well kept with plenty of seating. We were 15 minutes from the Golf Course. Turn right and can't miss it. I would recommend this property to anyone who was ready to have a relaxing good time for the weekend.

Great Ammenities at this Rental
Great Ammenities at this Rental
We spent the weekend here with another family and a couple. It was our first time in the Delta area and we thought it was a very peaceful location. We had heard about the strong currents in the Delta but the area the house is in is where the delta gets branched off so it wasn't concerning at all. The home was fabulous- the kitchen was well equipped, we cooked all our meals, the layout was great, we never felt cramped- there was lots of different places to hang out, indoors and out, the grounds and landscaping were beautiful. We enjoyed all the amenities the house had to offer... and there were many, many, many. The owner was really nice and even helped to mail back a watch we had left behind- now that's customer service!

Girls Time Out
Girls Time Out
Two friends and I rented the Delta River House for a mini retreat. We had a wonderful time exploring the many hidden treasures in the house and garden, as well as the surrounding communities. Mornings started with a soak in the hot tub, and ended in quiet evenings on the delta. The house is very comfortable and affords all the amenities you could need. We plan to do it again in the fall and would recommend this property to anyone who is looking for a quiet and peaceful place to stay.

What a great house!
What a great house!
This place is amazing. It was exactly what we wre looking for to accommodate my large-ish family during a trip for my brothers's wedding down the way at the grand island mansion. The house was large enough for everyone to fit easily. The beds were all comfortable. the kitchen and dining areas were spacious. Having laundry on site is priceless. The yard was great for kids. My eldest son would have LIVED on the dock if he could have (fishing). The kids really got a kick out of the sunken tub too. We had several guests stop by to visit and had lots of comfortable seating and everyone remarked on what a nice place it was. The minor hiccup we had upon arrival was dealt with as efficiently as possible. The only complaint I have is we needed more towels. Women with long hair use extra towels and I was forever washing so others would have clean bath towels. Oh, and the pool room was decorated in a bawdy fashion. It is stated that this room isn't for kids, but if we were in there, the kids followed, naturally. The local Chinese takeout is fabulous (a quick read of the book Bitter Melon is in order before a trip to Locke-fascinating!), and the one restaurant I tried in walnut grove was atmospheric, with good food to boot. Bob's or Tom's or something The area is really remote and beautiful. The only thing about the remoteness is make sure you do a bit of planning so you aren't forever running into Elk Grove (and BTW, the superwalmart in Elk Grove is a hellhole. Enter if you must, but keep your children close). Overall it was a terrific place, we would stay there again in a heartbeat, and would recommend it to anyone.

About the owner: We are travel agents, travel writers and photographers. We fell in love with the Delta many years ago when we were avid boaters and we know the Delta like the back of our hand. From anywhere in the Delta you can find things to do and come back to the Delta River Grove Cottage to continue your experience. We love the out doors and this property feels like you are outdoors even when you are inside with all of the windows and beautiful scenery surrounding you. The wild life on the property between all of the different species of birds, cottontail bunnies, squirrels really makes you appreciate the wonders of our area. We love to watch sunrises and sunsets and always enjoy being on the water wherever we are. We love to entertain and this home is the perfect place to do that.
Why the Owner Chose Walnut Grove:
We have been enjoying the delta since 1966 and it is a beauy and serenity like no other place on earth. After a sunny fall Sunday drive and spotting a piece of heaven we decided to buy and make it our permanent home. We raised our daughter here and then after she went away to College we decided to live our other dream, the dream of living part time in Mexico. When we aren't there we return to the Delta River Cottage and it's surrounding areas.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We enjoy jet skiing and a ski boat, water skiing and wake boarding and not having to haul the boat/toys out of the water at the end of the day, just tying up to our dock. Floating on a raft tied to the dock, sun bathing either on the dock or in the private english secret garden. Fishing off of the dock, watching the sunrises and sunsets. Relaxing in the jacuzzi in the evening. Sitting out by the outdoor fire pit roasting marshmellows with the kids. Going to breakfast at one of the local cafes. Wine tasting throughout the delta and Lodi. Photography and bird watching. Riding the Harley all around the river. Taking a local fishing charter or eco tour of the area. Great history surrounds you with the old towns in the Delta to explore. Close proximity to many great day trips including Lake Tahoe, Sacramento, San Francisco, Lodi or explore Freeport, Isleton, Walnut Grove, Locke, Rio Vista.
