Our cottage is located in a gated community near Lake Lure, North Carolina. This is the beautiful area where movies like, DIRTY DANCING, THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS, FIRE STARTER, and others were filmed.
We want to welcome you to our place where you slow down your pace and enjoy nature in a peaceful setting. You can sit on the deck and enjoy a cup of coffee or take a swim in one of two private lakes,or walk along a trail within the community.
There are picnic areas with tables and charcoal grills that you may enjoy with waterfalls and trout streams just a few feet away. Breathe the clean mountain air, smell the sweet smoke from the chimneys and camp fires, Ahh yes. Deer and Wild Turkey live in harmony within our secluded community.
Although the cottage seems remote, it is within a mile from a public library with internet access, Police and Fire Rescue Services, a community store, and a gas station. We are also proud of the new INGLES SUPER MARKET with Deli, Pharmacy, and Gas Pumps. What a great place! The cabin is great. It was very comfortable with everything that you could possibly need. Irene and Nick even left a great bottle of wine!

My husband and I had the most wonderful weekend get-a-away for Christmas at "Rabbit's Retreat" in Lake Lure, NC. Nick & Irene had the cabin decorated with Christmas lights, and Christmas music was playing softly when we arrived. It was so inviting and the complimentary bottle of wine just made our arrival perfect! The cabin was spotless and very well decorated and fully furnished. It was like having a home away from home. Having Ingles supermarket so close allowed us to shop for the items we needed so we were able to "eat in" most of our meals. I would definitely recommend this property and the owners to anyone; they are wonderful to work with and the home is very nice. There are several great restaurants in the area and many cute shops to visit. For those who love the outdoors, there are many trails to hike and things to do. Chimney Rock is so close and Asheville is within about 45 minutes. Rabbit's Retreat is a very memorable place and I highly recommend it.

We had a wonderful time, so peaceful and restful. Traveled all around here and got lost a couple of times but was an adventure. Enjoyed the lake tour and all the scenery. Your home is just like being at home. Thanks so much. Sandy

My sister said it best, this cabin in the woods is a treasure. We walked every day, and saw small treasures everyday, wild rabbits, deer, squirrels, beautiful mushrooms growing at every step, huge hawks flying overhead, saw a Spotted Eye Click Beetle, and a gorgeous Promethea Moth. The abundance of wildflowers on this mountain is astounding. Our week here has been rejuvenating to say the least. We have so enjoyed this "home away from home" and it is the perfect get away. We hope to make this an annual tradition, and this our second year staying here. Thank you for a treasure of nature and peace & quiet.

I feel refreshed and renewed in just six days at your peaceful mountain cottage. I don’t know if it was the mountain air or the peace and quiet, but I haven’t slept this well in years! We loved sitting on the deck with woods all around and even doing our yoga out there. We got lots of exercise hiking out to the falls in Chimney Rock Park and climbing up all 400+ steps up Chimney Rock. It was well worth it – such beautiful sights at the top. We loved the simple pleasures of swimming and kayaking in the lake as well. Biltmore of course was not to be missed, and the wine tasting at their private winery capped off our perfect week. Oh, I forgot to mention our trip to Asheville early in the week. We found a great organic food store, Green Life Grocery (although we were happy to see that the local Ingles also had plenty of organic foods). We visited some wonderful art galleries on Biltmore Avenue in Asheville. Your home was so well equipped and comfortable. Thanks for all the special touches.

We have had a wonderful stay here at the Rabbits Retreat. We went to Chimney Rock, did the Lake Lure boat tour and spent lots of time in the river. The kids have had a blast and are dreading leaving. My daughter has decided we need a home on the river or lake. Thanks so much for working with us on our dates of stay. It was just what we needed and your home is wonderful.

The cottage was perfect for a getaway from the city! The owner made the process of reserving the property very simple and provided excellent directions to its location. The cottage was very clean and quiet and we were pleasantly surprised with the kitchen stocked with items we've had to pay or bring in the past. Each morning we had breakfast on the porch overlooking the mountains in solitude. We couldn't have picked a better place to spend relaxing. It's located in a small gated community and has a small lake and walking trail with a small waterfall on the premise. For those that are looking to spend a day at Lake Lure, it's only a short drive away. We're looking forward to returning for the fall foliage and additional weekend getaways!

The house was beautiful. We enjoyed our stay and the area. The fishing was not as good as I would have hoped for, but I did manage to catch a few and my daughter beat me by catching a few more. Thank you again for a beautiful retreat, it felt like home away from home.

Dear Irene & Nick: I know this letter is long over-due but I have to send it anyway and let you know how much my husband Bob & I enjoyed our stay at Rabbits Retreat. As I think you know, our dear friends live in Connecticut and we live in Florida and we decided to meet in the middle for vacation. Well we all met at Rabbits Retreat and had a fabulous time. It was even better than I had imagined. Not only was the cabin perfect in size, but the balcony,WOW! we spent most of our time when not touring Lake Lure and surrounding sights on the balcony. We not only had coffee, but we ate our dinner on the balcony. What a nice view of the mountain top and all the birds in the trees. It was beautiful and so peaceful. We ventured down to the lake and hiked thru Riverbend. As you know we went at Thanksgiving time and the weather was so cool and crisp it made hiking just perfect. The cabin & fireplace were cozy and clean. Irene, Nick, we can't thank you enough for our "Perfect" vacation. I can't wait to visit Rabbits Retreat again. Thank you so very much for everything and for sharing your beautiful cabin with us. Our very best wishes to you both for success in your rental experiences at Lake Lure.
