This glamorous Art Deco swimming facility built in 1926 may look the former playing ground of silent movie starlets, but Amalienbad was actually a public health project of the socialist Rote Wien (Red Vienna) administration. And what luxury for the commonwealth: floor plans based on ancient Roman baths, interiors lavish with Art Deco flourishes, mosaics and columns, and numerous saunas were all laid out with care and detail. Let it be known that the Amalienbad folk take their sweating seriously. Especially popular with the Viennese is the Finnish sauna, though if it’s too crowded, the steam bath, whirlpool or bio-sauna all make for excellent alternatives. Massages also available. And once you’re all cleaned up, cool dow...MoreCollapse
Every stay in Vienna must include visits to numerous cafes and Konditorei. Vienna is the capital of coffee and pastry, and rightly so. But if you visit in summer it would be a travesty to miss out on what just might be the best ice cream in the world…of course I’m talking about Tichy, a real Viennese institution. Tichy Tourists are likely to see advertisements for Tichy on streets and in subway stations, for this incredible ice cream salon. Unlike most ice cream shops and stands, Tichy ice cream is made from real ingredients. The fruit flavors are made from real fruit, hazelnut ice cream (possibly the best in the Universe) is made with real hazelnuts, etc. Reumannplatz 22 Schneeball...MoreCollapse

The "smaller" unknown brother of the Prater, fantastically beautifully situated, with views over much of Vienna's historic amusement park rides (so-called roundabouts and the like in the Prater jargon) attracts especially in warm weather for a trip. Very well be combined with a short hike, for example, or the butter pond (yes, here it exists) of vineyards on the eastern outskirts of Vienna. The name comes from the time of origin for the most part Bohemian owners and visitors of the nearby brickworks. approx. 15 minute walk through a historic part of vienna alos very good for hiking, jogging, cycling or just relaxing....MoreCollapse
You will enjoy yourself here; the restaurant is nice and lovely, has a classic style and a comfortable and homey atmosphere. Has a great reputation. Warm colors also create that warm atmosphere. The spacious and tasteful interior has a pleasant feel to it. Superb and fine quality Austrian cuisine and certainly worth your while. There are mainly traditional regional dishes on the menu. Most of the dishes are seasonal. And predominantly local ingredients are used. Vegetarians also have enough to choose from, although limited sometimes....MoreCollapse

The amusement park was built in the second half of the 19th Century. From the original factory canteen of Vienna brickworks was at this time the first Ausflugsgasthaus Laa on the mountain. In 1883, already had numerous fairground families settled in the Bohemian Prater. This came as the workers of the brick factory, mainly from the Austrian crown lands of Bohemia and Moravia , and were thus its name to this new attraction in Vienna. In the following years there was a steady increase in the amusement park. During the Second World War , on 11 December 1944 the Bohemian Prater was almost completely destroyed by a bomb attack. After the reconstruction in the postwar years, he finally took on its current appearance. Great Outdoor places with live music and draft beer

The large, white, cubic Secession building was designed by the architect Joseph Maria Olbrich in 1897 as the manifesto of the Secessionist movement (see p25) and the exhibition hall opened in October 1898. Most of the original interior was looted during World War II and the building was left in a desolate state until the passion for Viennese Art Nouveau was rediscovered in the 1970s and the pavilion rescued from decay. Today it is one of the most treasured examples of a particularly Viennese artistic period.

Year Purchased: 2009
About the owner: I'm in the export import business and travel extensively during the year. My mother is helping me with the rentals. As you can see on my profile having great fun finding insider restaurants and unique wine producers, as I am also a certified Sommelier, before somebody else does. Enjoy extensive cycling rides in the surrounding areas which are just spectacular.
Why the Owner Chose Vienna:
I stayed in this place in the late 90´ies, as a friend of mine owned it, and I fell in love with it. Bought it 2009 as he moved to Hungary (recently married) Very quite and secluded location. but still only minutes away to public transport (only 6 minutes to St Stephen's Catherdral, 4 minutes to St. Charles Church - Karls Kirche and the tunnel tour of The Third Man - you have to see it and afterwards the movie is just around the corner). Easy Access to the airport and highway, the new Suedbahnhof (largest Railway station Europe) is 15 minutes walking distance. It is very central and has a vast amount of parks and recration areas. Also there is almost daily a large Farmers' market with the freshest produce, very reasonable priced, Approx. 50% less than in the surrounding supermarkets. I love the idea of hopping on the subway and being in the center in less than 5 minutes but just as great to leave the touristy area behind. Perfectly marked cycling path brings you in 10 minutes to the center and further on to the Blue Danube Island and for the more experienced cyclers up to Bratislava.
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment:
