Beaune is the wine capital of Burgundy. Rue Maizieres is in one of the oldest parts of the town within the old walls. It is a typically narrow, medieval street following the line of the original Roman town walls. This is a quiet corner of Beaune yet only 3 minutes' stroll from the market place, the renowned Hotel Dieu, shops, cafés and restaurants. The apartment is reached by the original, 800 year old, spiral, stone staircase.

On 3 levels the apartment feels more like a house. The sensitive renovation combines original structural elements (massive oak beams, stone corbels and walls) with harmonising finishes and carefully incorporated modern comforts. Painstaking attention has been given to the use of space, lighting and equipment. The result is a beautiful, spacious and airy living space. There are views of surrounding roof scapes and the famous Cotes de Beaune vineyards.

The apartment has central heating, ventilation and vacuum systems and double glazing. There is a basement for storing bicycles, strollers etc. and we provide a parking permit for nearby on-street and covered off-street parking. There is sidewalk parking space outside the apartment for loading and unloading.

About the owner: We have lived in Burgundy for nearly 24 years and are well placed to offer advice on the local area, vignerons, house purchase and many aspects of life in France. Previously we lived in Britain but moved to France for more space, a more relaxed lifestyle and to raise our (then) 2 small daughters in a truly European atmosphere. It is very rewarding now to have daughters who are completely fluent in French and one who is also fluent in Italian and Spanish. Running the apartment gives us a chance to meet people of varied nationalities some of whom have remained lifelong friends.

Why the Owner Chose Beaune:
Not only is this property an historic treasure - at least 900 years old, and with Roman foundations - but it is in the very heart of medieval Beaune and within walking distance of everything that you need. The renovation means that despite its age, the property has all modern amenities within, is comfortable, stylish and as most of our tenants agree ' feels like home'. Many of our visitors have agreed that it provides excellent value for money being so spacious, with everything of a very high quality and so close to all amenities. Many people stay without a car and it is very easy to access places like Paris, Dijon and Chalon-sur-Saone by train. The train station is a 15 - 20 minute walk. The property is in a quiet street and being on the second floor benefits not just from views but from cooling breezes in the summer when the windows are open.
