Mews House on a Historic Estate in County Dublin

Bedrooms 3
Space 10 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 4 nights

About the property

Secluded. Private. Exclusive. Close to the city, the mountains and the beach

Perfectly located to enjoy the Coast, City and Mountains. Stunning Mews House on one of Killiney's most Historic Estates. A five minute walk to the breathtaking Killiney Bay with it's sweeping coastal views.

Killiney is widely regarded as the place to live in Dublin. It has the nickname of the "Rock Star Belt". Sure, a lot of creative people choose to live here, 2 members of U2, numerous film directors, actors, etc. It's visually a pretty inspiring place to live but it also has a very chilled out aspect to it.

Killiney and it's close neighbour Dalkey don't take themselves too seriously and the locals are some of the friendliest you could ever hope to meet.

Warm, calm and welcoming, the Mews House has been carefully furnished throughout. It's airy open plan layout, and charming spiral staircase give it loads of character. It's ideal for family trips, you can entertain, cook, laugh and most importantly reconnect again. We know those special moments just happen naturally, and the relaxed vibe here is the right setting.

The Valclusa Estate is one of the largest Estates (approx 5 acres), still held in private ownership in Killiney. We even have our own monument in the garden, look forward to telling you the story when we meet! It is only a five minute walk to what is widely regarded as one of the most spectacular coastlines in Dublin, ans indeed Ireland.

We have paid attention to the details and want your stay with us to be as enjoyable as possible. The Norwegian duvets on the beds, a generous supply of pillows and the beds will always be presented in immaculate condition. It's how you start and end the day, and we feel it can be the make and break of a stay. There are three bedrooms with king size beds, the master being very spacious. There are folding beds available for your use on request. The property is very secure and tranquil and there is secure parking allocated for two cars in the Mews House/ Coach House car park..

Yoga mats are provided for your use. If you are here when the blackberries and apples are in season, feel free to help yourself before the squirrels do! There are also foxes on the property, they are mostly shy apart from "George Clooney" who is very handsome, relaxed and quite a hit with the ladies....very much like his name sake.

Perfect base to explore Dublin and escape back to peace and tranquility

  • 5 of 5

A wonderfully renovated mews house located in a large garden estate.

The mews house is very tastefully decorated and really invites you to sit back and relax with a book or glass of wine.

The gardens of the walled estate are extensive and very well maintained. The kids loved the 'death slide' which must have been over 75 m long (insight into the size of the gardens!) and played footie.

We borrowed the available bikes and explored the area - a big pebble/sand beach a few minutes walk away, also the dart train into both the city and next 'centre' Dalkey, which has a great selection of restaurants, bars and pubs to enjoy many an evening in!

The owners Karen and Jonathan were extremely friendly and helpful, giving us some great tips which really helped make the most of our visit.

We took the dart train into the city and can definitely recommend this as a stress free way to explore. After the hustle and bustle of the city it was great to be able to retreat back to the peaceful estate and village like character of the surrounding restaurants.

This house is definitely not to be missed and I strongly recommend staying here!

We will certainly stay here on our next trip to Dublin...

Magical Time In Killiney at Historic Estate - Our Family Loved it - Five Stars

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a wonderful stay at the Mews House in Killiney, Ireland. Karen and Jonathan, the owners, are so wonderfully warm and gracious, and are happy to offer insights and advice for exploring nearby Dublin, Wicklow, or all of Ireland for that matter. They know everything there is to know and have exquisite taste in terms of the property, the must-see sights and restaurant recommendations. They make the experience very easy, which is hard to find when traveling. Their property is stunning. Secluded, with lots of trees and green grass, a long driveway, and very spacious. On the outside, you'll feel like 19th century royalty arriving at your weekend retreat, as you visit this historic property. You will enjoy strolling along the more than an acre of green grass spotting the occasional fox. And you will hear the church bells ring at noon. Our kids threw a football around the yard, and enjoyed swinging on the swings. It is the perfect place to disconnect & relax. You feel your shoulders drop on the drive in. On the inside, it is all brand new, modern and you'll feel like you're starring in a designer magazine. Karen is a designer and she spares no detail-- from the luxurious, comfortable linens, couches, to the works of art, books, decor and accents elegantly placed about. The ceilings are very high, the three bedrooms are big, and plenty of sunlight comes in through the windows which have terrific views of the property. The grey hardwood floors, and the red accent chairs against the clean white walls add another flair of modern elegance. The property is impeccably clean and had plenty of room for this family of four from Los Angeles. The only issue is when you stay at this property, you will not want to leave. You will want to cook dinners and entertain, which we did one night. Killiney is a beautiful location, 20-30 minutes outside of Dublin, a train stop a way from a Dalkey and some terrific shops and restaurants. Hiking up nearby Killiney Hill is a must, with its breathtaking views of the Irish Sea. Book dinner at DeVille's in Dalkey and have breakfast at the Corner Note Cafe. It is a truly special property. (If you're a dog lover, ask the owners to play with their fabulous dog, Hawkeye. He's special.) It is no wonder the neighborhood boasts the likes of Bono, the Edge and many other Irish celebrities, because it is one of the most gorgeous spots on the Emerald Isle. Highest recommendation.

Wonderful Stay in Killiney, Ireland

  • 5 of 5

Our family spend 3 wonderful nights at the Mews House, hosted by Karen and Jon. It is an absolutely beautiful setting and an amazing location. It is a short drive from Dublin and a great hopping off point for all the area attractions. Plus, the train station and beach are a short walk from the house.

Karen and Jon could not have been more helpful. They graciously answered all of my questions (although I probably drove them crazy with countless emails). They even made dinner reservations for us in nearby Dalkey.

If you want to be near Dublin but feel like you are on your own country estate, this is the place for you.

Amazing property with incredibly kind hosts

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Mews house for 6 nights while touring the area. The house has been updated to a very high standard. There are beautiful furnishings, comfortable beds, exquisite linens; everything you need to feel comfortable. Jonathan and Karen were extremely helpful and kind, and made sure to make our 8 year old daughter feel welcome as well. We had privacy, but they were there if we needed anything. Thanks Jonathan and Karen, we hope to see you again.

Spacious property set in verdant grounds

  • 5 of 5

Once you arrive at Valclusa, you know that you have chosen a special place. Set in beautifully maintained estate grounds, it is a terrific accommodation for a big group. We were 8 adults. We had loads of room. Everything is modern and tasteful and the beds are very comfortable.

We were within walking distance of the train transport system (DART) which goes into Dublin city. We were also able to swim in the sea at the local beach. One of us went out for a run, and others went for a long walk along the coastline. There is a grocery store, pharmacy, and two take-out restaurants nearby.

One thing prospective guests must be aware of is the inconsistency of the taxi service in this area. Even though you order a taxi, it may not come. Pre-booking is no help. Your booking is ignored.

Our hosts, Jonathon and Karen were so helpful and kind and went above and beyond to help us out. We are very happy to recommend this property.
