It is a totally amazing property set among beautiful trees. In a friendly and tranquil neighbourhood
Le Pignol is an ideal place to spend time in Sarlat and its surroundings. We started up as two travellers from Australia and the had other family members joining us from Switzerland. The house accommodated easily all the coming and goings.
Spacious light filled bedrooms, very comfortable beds, 2 generous bath rooms. The two kitchens are equipped with all mod cons. There is a generous amount of very stylish crockery and cutlery available which makes it easy to make full use of the dishwasher when there are a few people in the house. The pool and jacuzzi are kept in perfect order ready for a dip or a swim. Unfortunately for us the weather had cooled down a bit by then. So we enjoyed lounging beside the pool when the sun did shine. From there we occasionally could spot a little red squirrel scampering by and checking us out.
The different balconies surrounding the house gives stunning views of Sarlat and beyond the church bells ringing in the mornings or lunchtimes.
The walk to the history filled medieval town is only 5 minutes away going downhill there and uphill on the way back. Great little exercise to counteract all the local fresh and delicious fair on offering.
Above all our hosts Olivier and Marie Thé were exceptional welcoming. We did not have a car so Marie Thé picked us up from the station and again brought us back there after our stay. They were at all times available on the phone or by text. They are the most generous warmhearted people anyone could wish for. We felt a little sad to leave. Hopefully there might be another chance to spend some time at this enchanted place. "Le Pignol " for us a truely "Happy House "
Wonderful property in lovely area with attentive (but not intrusive) owner
We had a great fortnight in this property, which is very well appointed and equipped. We enjoyed using the heated pool and Jacuzzi in the lovely weather and it provided a great base for seeing some of the Dordogne area. We thoroughly recommend it.
Comfortable and well-equipped house in a great location
Enjoyed a great week in Sarlat. Very friendly welcome from the owners. We all loved the pool and hot-tub - especially our 3 children. Great view across the town and very quiet location. Very spacious both inside and out.
Road access to the house is good with sufficient parking on site for 2 cars with additional parking available off-road opposite the property.
The property is within a very low density housing development, very quiet with little passing traffic. The house is superb and is as described and shown on the website. It is clean, modern, extremely well equipped together with being a little quirky with kitchen/dining areas both up and downstairs, allowing the house to be occupied on two different levels. The upstairs lounge/kitchen/dining area has air conditioning which is a boon in the hotter months.
There is always somewhere to sit in the shade or to seek solitude. We liked to take breakfast on the balcony on the eastern side and watch Sarlat come alive and then again on an evening to watch the lights come on in and around Sarlat. Meals were generally taken at the big outside table on the south side. Given that the temperatures peaked in excess of 38 DegC whilst we were there, we were grateful for both the pool and the jacuzzi, which were well used!
Because of the high temperatures we only managed 1 short trip away, to la Roque Gageac where we enjoyed a boat trip on the river Dordogne. Most days we went into Sarlat la Canéda, which is a lovely, clean medieval town with lots of hidden gems to find. Very touristy but has not yet become a victim of its own success. Wednesday there was a market held within its streets followed by street music in differing locations. The (english) rock band were superb and had the “beautiful” people up on their feet dancing! Restaurants are too many to mention, allowing you to buy whatever food type you want, boulangeries too!
Access on foot from the house to the town was via a 10 minute walk, with a 15 minute walk back because of the need to climb a steepish hill, which could make difficulties for those with any walking impediment.
M. Olivier Trémouille was very helpful and attentive. We communicated our eta via text and were met by Maîtée who showed us around and explained how the essentials worked. Neither Olivier nor Maîtée are big on english, for my part, if there was a law against murdering the french language, I would have been guillotined, but we did manage to communicate OK.
If you book, you will commit to a 60%ish non refundable deposit and, on arrival, a refundable “caution” of 750€ in cash, to cover any damage.
Our only regret was that our stay was for 1 week, . . . however . . à la prochaine!
Impeccably Appointed in Prime Location
We loved our stay at this house- and will certainly return. The house was clearly designed with vacation rentals in mind and had everything we needed. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen bright and spacious and the outdoor space was fabulous. We had a little rain in May and appreciated both the heated pool and the Jacuzzi. A 5 minute walk to the medieval town and market made this location unbeatable. It was also incredibly quiet and private. The hosts were very friendly and made check-in and check-out very easy. We would highly recommend staying here.
Hard to believe but the pictures don't do it justice. This is a beautiful home - stylish yet comfortable. It is a ten minute walk from town, in a very quiet neighbourhood; a tranquil oasis after a day of sight seeing. The outdoor areas offer plenty of options from a rooftop view of Sarlat to pool-side relaxation. Unfortunately, the weather didn't give us the opportunity to enjoy these as much as we would have liked. We spent a great week here and hated to leave.
