Overview

About the property

3 + Bedrooms - 3.5 Baths + 1 add'l large room with pull out sofa and pvt bath

Our new (built in 2008) luxury 3,500 SF timberframe home is located directly on Lake Rescue and close to Okemo and Killington ski areas. The views of the lake and mountains are spectacular and the location is wonderful all year round.

Our Bensonwood timeberfame house (also known as a post and beam house) is characterized by beautiful Douglas Fir beams, towering cathedral ceilings, and a wide open main floor. The Great Room is open to the Kitchen and Dining Room. This openness makes it possible for everyone to be included in family or group discussion or activities, no matter where they are on the main level.

The home has 3 bedrooms, all with queen beds, plus a very large additional private room with a bathroom and pull-out sofa. The house can comfortably sleep 6. Although the house can accomodate additional people we prefer to limit the occupancy so as to keep the house in excellent condition for future guests.

The house has three levels; main, upper and lower. The main level has a magnificent “Great Room” with cathedral ceiling, many exposed beams, a fireplace, and large windows overlooking the lake. The kitchen has beautiful cherry cabinets, a large gorgeous granite counter, new stainless appliances, and breakfast counter which seats five. The dining room has a large cherry table.. The Great Room opens onto a beautiful deck overlooking the lake, which has stairs down to a patio and the lake.

On the upper level the master bedroom overlooks the lake. The master bath is decorated with travertine tile and has a walk-in shower. The shower has both a rain shower head and wall-mounted shower head with many different spray options. In addition we have a large “soaking tub” for relaxation. All of the bathrooms have granite countertops and travertine tile.

The loft overlooks the Great Room and has wonderful views of the lake. The loft has a sofa and TV and is a great place to escape to read or watch TV. Also the upper level has a large (24’ x 24’) “game room” with a cathedral ceiling, full bath, and a pull-out sofa andbathroom. This can serve as room where kids gather to play or watch TV. We have full laundry facilities on both the upper and lower levels.

On the lower level, the “family room”, with large windows looks directly out onto the lake. A door opens onto a spectacular patio which also overlooks the lake. The room has a French entry door, gas fireplace, a sofa, and LCD TV. The lower level also has two bedrooms. One bedroom on the lower floor also looks directly onto the lake while the other has a lake view. There is a beautiful bath with a large walk-in shower and granite counters on the lower floor

The lower level also has a second laundry room with a full size washer-dryer, as well as a second refrigerator. (This laundry room is in addition to the washer-dryer we have on the upper level.)

The nearby village of Ludlow, Vermont contains many fine restaurants, while nearby Chester is known for its fine antique stores. Weston, only a 15-minute drive away, is home to the famous Vermont Country Store and also the beautiful Weston Priory. Manchester, Vermont is well known for its many designer factory outlets and Woodstock, Vermont for picture post-card beauty and typical New England charm.

In summer, the fishing, swimming, and boating are excellent and it is a perfect place to spend a family vacation. There are multiple decks where you can relax in the sun any time of day. Wide stairs provide easy access to the lake where there is a generally sandy bottom for children to wade. The dock is a perfect place to tie up your boat, jump into the water, or fish (the lake is stocked with fish - perch, bass, and trout abound). A canoe is available for you to explore all the nooks and crannies of Lake Rescue.

The beautiful and recently renovated and expanded 18-hole Okemo Valley/Fox Run Golf course is nearby. An outdoor grill and picnic table are available for you to enjoy a wonderful cookout with spectacular views of the lake. And you can eat outdoors on the deck with a spectacular view. Other nearby activities include driving and hiking Okemo Mountain and riding the mountain slide at Pico.

In the fall, the foliage is spectacular. It is also a great place to enjoy a hike in the surrounding woods or antiquing in neighboring towns. And autumn is the perfect time to enjoy the foliage while canoeing around Lake Rescue.

In winter, the house is ideal for outdoor activities. The house is about three miles from Okemo and 12 miles from Killington’s Northeast chairlift. Lake Rescue is approximately one and one-half miles long and offers numerous activities in addition to nearby downhill skiing.

Lake Rescue usually has excellent conditions for cross-country skiing and the scenery is always beautiful. A full loop of the lake is approximately four miles. If you tire of exploring Lake Rescue, Echo Lake and Amherst Lake are easy to reach via interconnecting trails. Nearby Okimo Valley/Fox Run Cross Country Ski Center has extensive groomed trails for classical or skating skiers.

Ice fisherman love the lakes, and when the conditions are right, the ice skating is also good. Flood lights directed onto the lake allow you to enjoy lake activities after dark. Snowmobilers can utilize the lakes and the nearby access to all the interconnecting ski trails that Vermont offers (one-fourth mile from Lake Rescue). Once on the trails, you can even ride into Canada.

Great house, great location

  • 5 of 5

A beautiful house in a great location. The views were breathtaking as soon as you entered the house. My husband and I had a very relaxing time, just enjoying all the house and lake had to offer. Outside there very several choices of places to sit and relax, entry into the lake for swimming and kayaking was very easy. The fishing was outstanding. Internally the house is very comfortable and equipped with everything you would need. The kitchen was superb. This is a wonderful home to rent for small or large groups. We are already planning our return.

Lakeside Joy at the Dream House

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful house on a lake that looks like a mirror. The first thing to note is the architecture of the house. It is a gorgeous example of post and beam or timber frame, with beautiful wood exposed throughout the house with beautiful wood floors. It is warm and cozy with plenty of room for a family gathering. The back of the house looks over the serene lake. We were here in late September and had 4 very warm days with cool nights. Everyday, we put the kayaks in the water and paddled along the shore looking at the other lovely houses on the lake. Two of our nights, we made a fire in the outdoor fire pit and enjoyed s'mores under the stars. Ludlow is about 10 minutes away. We liked lunch at The Pot Belly and bought a delicious pie at the Southern Pie Company (very small family run store with multiple types of delicious pies). We highly recommend this home for a quiet escape in a luxury setting.

a DREAM HOME in Vermont

  • 5 of 5

This is an amazing house on a beautiful lake. The hosts are so gracious to share their Dream Home with other families. The best part of any trip is the quality time spent with friends and family and this house offers a warm, safe, and welcoming place to enjoy a good time in summer or winter.

I stayed with my wife, my brother, and my niece and nephew for six nights at the end of August 2017. We had a wonderful time.

We spent our mornings enjoying the crisp New England air by hiking, biking, and walking in the area. One morning we also took a short drive to nearby Woodstock to explore a covered bridge and another day we spent the morning at the Vermont country store. Both stops offered great places to eat and shop.

Afternoons in the summer are the perfect time to enjoy Lake Rescue. We stretched out in the Adirondack chairs to enjoy the sun and when we got too hot we cooled-off with a quick dip in the refreshing water. The kids loved canoeing around the lake. We paddled across to a patch of lily pads where we stopped to see the turtles and frogs. We also took the canoe to explore the lake's island. The kids named it "Pirate Island" and spent a whole afternoon building a fort in the woods. It was awesome!

The house had everything we needed to cook family dinners that we enjoyed while watching a beautiful sunset every evening from the patio. This house also has a great fire pit where we were able to get together and tell stories, sing campfire songs, and enjoy our favorite dessert: s'mores!

One more thing! The timber frame home combines traditional mortise and tenon techniques with modern building materials to create a house that's as beautiful as it is functional and comfortable. The house itself is a treasure to behold. From the moment we walked in we knew it was something special and we've missed this house from the moment we left. If you have the opportunity to rent his property, you won't be disappointed. It truly is a Dream Home. Enjoy!

Excellent rental for fun and relaxing family vacation!

  • 5 of 5

My family had a wonderful vacation in this home. The house is exceptionally beautiful, spacious, clean and well stocked. My three small children (ages 4,6, and 8) were in heaven and had plenty of space to hang out. The lake was quiet and the kids played in the water and with the provided kayaks all day long for the entire week we were there! There are several spots around the house (two decks/patios, fire pit area, dock) for hanging out and we comfortably enjoyed all of these areas. Would definitely return to this home for another vacation and highly recommend to others looking for relaxing and beautiful setting.

great family vacation!

  • 4 of 5

My family had a wonderful week here! My three small children were thrilled with jumping off the dock, swimming in the lake and trying out the youth kayaks each day. The lake is quiet and we found the setting to be super relaxing. The house is beautiful and had everything we needed. We would definitely return for another vacation here.

Outstanding

  • 5 of 5

This is quite honestly one of the best vacation rental homes we have ever stayed in. Our family of five, with kids ages 14, 11, and 8, absolutely loved it. The house is comfortable, spacious, and has all of the amenities you could ever need. There are many different areas both inside and outside the house to sit and relax.

The lake was the highlight of the stay for all of us. There were enough kayaks for our entire family plus a canoe. The lake was manageable and fun to explore. Jumping off the dock and swimming were great. At night, we roasted marshmallows over the fire pit.

We sincerely hope to visit again. Our vacation week could not have been better!
