The Guest House at Willow Springs Farm -- central Shenandoah Valley location

Bedrooms 3
Property type farmhouse
Minimum Stay 1 - 3 nights

About the property

Quiet, charming, plenty of outdoor exploring adventures

Our turn of the century Shenandoah Valley farmhouse is convenient for travelers (ten minutes from I-81, exit 235) and centrally located for vacationers (20 minutes to Harrisonburg, Staunton, Natural Chimneys; 30 minutes to Shenandoah National Park, George Washington National Forest; less than an hour to Lexington, Charlottesville, Highland County).

Sitting nearly ½ mile off the county road, quiet and solitude with some country noises should be expected at Willow Springs. Cozy up in many spots indoors and out with a good book, drawing pad, or whatever suits your fancy. Get out, walk around, and experience a simple, slower pace. Watch the cattle graze while listening to the birds chirping. Starry nights, amazing moons, and the sun rising and setting should not be missed. Come experience this farm as she comes back to life.

The hundred year old farmhouse has been maintained, updated, expanded, and renovated throughout the years. What she lacks in elegancy she gains in charm and character. You will find the house extra clean, sporting a fresh coat of paint, new luxury linens, and plush towels. We will continue improving the exterior, always insuring your visit is uninterrupted.

Come up the porch and enter the house. All bedrooms are upstairs, straight ahead. To the right is the comfortable living room complete with basic television (mainly networks via antenna and blueray/DVD player). The left leads you through another gathering room to the updated and nicely appointed kitchen, complete with a Kuerig coffee maker. The only bathroom is a simple one nestled behind the dining area.

Upstairs consists of three bedrooms. Two have queens and one has a pair of twins. The four Kingsdown mattresses are brand new. Dual zone central heat and air provide a consistent and comfortable environment. No natural gas or propane systems eliminate the worries of gas in the home. The Kinetico water system provides fresh and purified well water.

Extensive landscaping frames a wonderful patio and deck on the left and rear of the home. Enjoy a steak on the gas grill or cook something at the campfire (firewood provided). Plenty of space is available for the kids to roam, explore the woods, and play in the dirt. Many farm activities can be enjoyed here. Don't be shy, just ask and we'll put you right to "work." Want a bon-fire, weather permitting it can be arranged. How about a hayride around the property? Start and end your Shenandoah Valley vacation here each day or make The Guest House at Willow Springs Farm the vacation!

Pre-approved pets are allowed with a fee. No smoking in the house. The living room fireplace should not be used. We will attempt to accommodate your travel schedule for arrival and departure times.

Weekly, monthly, and longer term pricing available.

Great week

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for almost a week it was a wonderful place to use as a base camp for Shenandoah, and history sites and antiquing in the area. The house was so nice and clean, had just about everything we needed. It was so nice to do day hiking and come back to a house, cook, eat and relax. The fresh eggs and veggies from the garden were an extra bonus, I would highly recommend this home especially if you are wanting away from everything and quiet. Hosts were great and helpful with suggestions for places to go. It was what our family needed. Thank you!

Willow Springs Farmhouse stay April 13-15, 2018

  • 5 of 5

My stay at Willow Springs was very enjoyable. The house is a large, comfortable farmhouse. Entering by the door in front porch, you face a wide stairway leading to three large bedrooms with comfortable beds. To the left and right are a parlor and a TV room. Beyond the parlor is a modernized kitchen with a center island and a dining area. It has all the conveniences one would expect of a modern kitchen. The only bathroom is off the dining area. Off the kitchen is a laundry room and a door leading to a deck. Another door from the kitchen leads to a brick and stone patio wrapping around the side of the house and meeting up with the deck. It looks like a great place to hold an outdoor party.

The house retains the charm of an old farmhouse but has been updated with a modern kitchen and conveniences. Everything is airy and comfortable. There were four in my party but there were comfortable beds enough for six without resorting to the couch downstairs.

The house is set among rolling hills and fields containing various farm animals. The owner does use the property for raising livestock, and you may see him on his tractor or doing various jobs but he is never intrusive. He pointed out some hiking paths around the property. A path up the hill across the road offered some panoramic views of the farmhouse and surrounding buildings as well as of distant mountains.

Looking out my bedroom window in the morning I viewed a large, remarkably picturesque barn. During the Civil War, the Northern armies destroyed all the barns in the Shenandoah Valley to prevent the South from supplying their armies with food from this area. This barn must have been built shortly after the war and may well be the oldest barn in the area. The owner showed me where he had rebuilt the foundation to save the barn. I will always remember that lovely barn and other historic outbuildings as a high point of my trip.

The owner was very hospitable, showing me around the place and telling me places to explore. We had come to visit the American Shakespeare Center at Staunton but one of us came down sick. The owner was very accommodating, allowing him to sleep in at the farmhouse while we went to the last play even though it made us overstay our departure time.

The place is fantastic. We will definitely stay again.

  • 5 of 5

The place was fantastic. The house sits close to the cow fields and the barns. It was really neat to sit and watch the cows graze. The house sits way off the main road on a 40 acre farm so it is very quiet and peaceful. We loved every minute of the stay. I can’t say enough about G.R. And his wife. There hospitality is second to none. We will definitely stay again.

Lovely farmhouse in a beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

There is something for everyone at G.R.'s farmhouse. The adults enjoyed the very nicely decorated and well appointed home. My small children loved the visits from the cattle, cat and dog visitors. G.R. was very helpful in suggesting things to do in and around the farm. He was also very open to us exploring his property which we greatly appreciated. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Great place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

This house was great! G.R. was friendly and very proactive at both reaching out before the trip and making sure we had accurate directions and not issues getting into the property on Friday night. After inquiring about our plans for the weekend, he left us maps to use on our Hikes and to get a sense of the area. Both were helpful for hiking and for our friend who completed a long (20 mile) run for her marathon training this weekend. Throughout our stay he also followed up to make sure everything was okay and we did not need anything else. The house itself is beautiful and comfortable with some very friendly barn cats that greeted us through the kitchen windows every morning. Overall a wonderful place to stay for a weekend outside of D.C.!
