We arrived to a lovely view of the bay...a warm house as Morgan (local), had put the heat on and left us a very substantial welcome pack, with plenty of tea, coffee, milk and even a lovely soda bread, butter and jams. We spent 4 lovely nights and days just chilling. The hound loved it too and was tuned into the surroundings by his 2nd day and happy to roam down the back as far as the stones to the sea shore would allow, (under his Mama's watchful eye of course!) All the beds were really solid and comfortable with lovely linen, plenty of towels as well. The boot room at the front door was a great idea as we obviously got soaked on more than one walk! So the cupboard for drying is a great idea and stuff gets turned around really quickly. It's like a large 'Flately' dryer of old, if anyone remembers them!! The kitchen was stocked with pretty much everything you would need in terms of glasses, crocks and pots and pans. There was plenty of staples in the cupboard for cooking regarding oils and even some baking staples if you were so inclined! We normally always bake a birthday cake when we are away for my birthday but someone was on strike this year! I still got cake from a lovely cafe in Clifden. Delicious! The views are amazing from the cottage and we had a great evening Day 2, as the day was so bright and sunny, watching the sun go down, drinking sun downers and waiting for stars to come out for my birthday, after a long walk at Dogs Bay, Roundstone. The stars didn't disappoint, what a magnificent display! No light pollution so on a clear light you get the Ireland of old ... displaying every wonder the night sky has to offer. Beautiful. I am sure in November shooting stars would be visible too. The back terrace makes a lovely sun trap too as we discovered that morning at breakfast. Very sheltered and warm. Inside, there is a good size lounge separate to the kitchen / dining area, with lots of comfy seats and sofas and a big open fire. (The house almost completely faces the ocean bay views). Get plenty of logs as it takes a few to get it really pumping. Also an open fire in the kitchen too, a little hard to light this one. I would say the draft isn't as good so get some firelighters, we kept forgetting them at the shop! The house is old, but very nicely and relatively newly done inside with 4 good sized beds and 2 bathrooms. The outside doesn't do it justice really. Inside it is light, airy, yet cosy... it has the feel of an artists hideaway... which I believe it may have been. If you want a little bit of peace and quiet, read a book, paint, potter, or just watch the landscape change as the weather does, this is a lovely place to stay.
