Mountain View Lodge lies on the western edge of the scenic Texas Hill Country, offering spectacular views and sunsets--great for gatherings large or small. This modern, 2-story (2,500 sq ft) lodge is along crystal-clear, spring-fed Pulliam creek (Middle Prong of the Nueces River), which is ideal for swimming, tubing, and snorkeling. A 5-ft-deep swimming hole is at the lodge. Nearby is a large natural spring.
The Lodge sits high above the creek with a lovely, panoramic mountain view. The area is Nueces Canyon, home to many species of birds and other wildlife. The Lodge is located 6 miles north of Camp Wood and 28 miles west of Leakey, near Barksdale, on a 23-acre ranch.
Free wireless internet access now available (wifi).
There are large living areas upstairs and downstairs with a southwestern decor. The main living area is upstairs, which includes a large kitchen/dining area, a living room, and two bedrooms. Downstairs is an entertainment area and more bedrooms.
Accommodations: Upstairs (main living area) has 2 bedrooms with king-sized beds sleeping 4 people. Downstairs are recreational accommodations and beds for 8 people. Each level has a fireplace and a full bath.
Large decks on both levels provide majestic hill country views and a comfortable setting for relaxation. The fully equipped kitchen includes a microwave and a dishwasher. The downstairs deck includes a barbecue grill for outdoor cooking. Also downstairs are a washer and dryer.
Weather conditions: It is not just summertime that's great in the Hill Country. Fall, spring, and even winter are some of the most wonderful weather days. The water source for the Lodge is from a well tapped into the nearby spring aquifer--an extra treat. It's processed through a water softener just to remove the hardness and is really great quality water--classic Hill Country.
Pets ages 1 year or over are welcome.

About Kermit Graf
In 2011 I retired from 31 years as an engineer with Schlumberger. My wife and I own and manage three vacation rental properties. We enjoy providing relaxing and safe properties for our guests and their families. We are both originally from Houston, then moved to Austin in the late 1960s when attending, then graduating from, the University of Texas, where we met each other in the Longhorn Band. Hook-em Horns!

Amazing location, beautiful view, and clear instructions on how to get there. Thank you Kermit!
AMAZING! RELAXING! BEAUTIFUL!
One of the most relaxing places to stay. It was clean and VERY comfortable, homey! Fully stocked kitchen. Everything you would need to cook for a crowd. The number of stars will blow your mind! We saw deer, turkey and owls! The hummingbirds were fewer than last visit but I think that was the difference in time of year. Last time there were consistently 10 - 20 buzzing around. This time only three or four.
Kermit is wonderful to work with and so very accomodating.
Beautiful as always
We love coming to the Mountain View Lodge and soaking in the natural beauty all around. It's always a joy to get away and leave our worries behind! We love how well stocked the house is- soap, paper products, and utensils are already here.
Remote, beautiful and peaceful. I highly recommend it.
Gorgeous. Comfortable. Relaxing. Quiet.
Having been to MVL several times, I plan to continue visiting. Terrific value.
Great View, Comfortable House, Nature and Restful
The Atlanta girls enjoyed the house. The corn and bird feed was very nice to have for the animals. The sign postings was very helpful and made the stay easier as to have any questions answered. Our only concern was the upper wooden deck is in need of repair and was very shaky. The girls were uncomfortable about sitting on it. We sat on the lower deck. I suggest the upper deck and steps be checked for rotten wood replacement. I will recommend the house to family and friends as it was a very nice place to stay. Thank you
If you bend down and look closely, the deck boards are 2" thick (not your normal 1" boards) and still very strong and sturdy. Your concern is because the boards are a bit loose and need to be tightened down. The hot summer sun causes wood contraction. Deck screws need to be re-tightened, which I'll do again soon. The boards click & clack when you walk on them, but they are structurally very strong. They just need to be tightened again.
Other activities in the area include hiking, birding, photography, summer rodeos, floating the Nueces River, and exploring the limitless miles of scenic country roads. Two of the most scenic highways in Texas are Hwy 55 between Barksdale and Rocksprings, and Hwy 337 between Medina, Vanderpool, Leakey and Camp Wood.
Take the 7-mile drive from Barksdale to Vance along Hwy 335. At one of the ranches look for giraffe, kangaroo, camel, antelope, zebra and other exotic wildlife. From Vance, drive another 2.6 miles to a beautiful overlook of the Nueces. It is this river that carries water from the Frio and Sabinal to the Gulf of Mexico, and was once the disputed southern border with Mexico. Consider it the 'mother' river of the Hill Country!
Don't miss 'Quince,' an old-time, crystal-clear, 15-ft-deep Nueces River swimming hole outside Camp Wood; or the beautiful Nueces River dam south of Camp Wood; or all-you-can-eat at the popular Casa Falcon in Camp Wood (wear your cowboy hat!).
