About Jeff and Angelica Bazyk

When Jeff and I were in our early 20's, we started going up to coastal Maine every year in the summer. Raised in NY and southern CT, we fell in love with the quaint New England villages, the pine air, cool night summer breezes, the people, and the laid-back lifestyle. In 2001, we lived in a condo in downtown Boston and wanted to find a weekend retreat that offered lots of outdoor activities throughout the year. We had heard about the Lakes Region in Maine and decided to explore that area of Maine. The first time we saw this Log Home, set in the woods, on a beautiful lake, we knew it had everything we had hoped to find. With nearby skiing at Sunday River and Mt. Abram's and the interstate trail system of cross country and snowmobile trails - it would provide us with plenty to do during the winter. In the summer, we could canoe, kayak, swim, hike... or just relax by the lake. And, the nearby quaint New England towns of Bridgton and Bethel reminded us of why we were drawn to Maine so many years ago.

Jeff and Angelica Bazyk purchased this chateau / country house in 2001

Why Jeff and Angelica Bazyk chose Mountains & Lakes

The house sit on a lake and faces the sunset. Each evening, you can sit on the deck, watching the loons on the lake, as the sun dips below the White Mountains in the distance.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We rented 9/18-9/25 2011. The house was quiet and peaceful. Everything was provided that we needed. Our group included my brother and his wife, my mom and my wife, 10 month old daughter and myself. There was plenty of space for everyone to relax. There were two solid wood child gates. One at the top of the basement steps and one at the base of the steps to the second floor. They came in handy with a 10 month old that thought she needed to explore every inch of the house. The front porch was wonderful. We saw a Bald Eagle the second day. The home was centrally located for what we wanted to see. The coast was only about an hour away and so were the White Mtns. I only wish the weather was cooler so we could have tried out the fireplace. I know no one in our group wanted to leave at the end of the week. I'm sure we will be back in the future.

This was a great location! It was so peaceful and easy to get too. The house was super clean and beautiful on the inside. We loved sitting on the porch. The kitchen was stocked nicely, nice fluffy towels, but the beds were pretty hard. There was plenty of toys for my toddler and movies. We had fun fishing having a campfire and using the canoe! Perfect getaway for a weekend or the week. We plan to come back in the winter the house will be so cozy and inviting.

A Quite Get Away

  • 4 of 5

My family and I spent a wonderful week on Papoose Pond. The cabin is well maintained; plenty of sleeping accommodations and the kitchen was amazing (all of the cooking utensils and appliances you can possibly need). We also enjoyed the two kayaks and the canoe.

The only reason I cannot give a 5 star rating is the swimming. While the shallow bottom waterfront is great for families with young children, my boys (aged 10 and 12) found it to be too shallow. Ultimately we drove to the public beach at Woods Pond (about 20 minutes away) for swimming.

Bethel Bliss

  • 5 of 5

This was my first Homeaway rental, and I was a bit skittish. But, when I walked through the door of the cabin, all of my fears were quieted. It is a lovely respite, and the quiet, clean air is just the antidote to the noise of our everyday lives. And, the view of the pond through the trees is lovely, seemingly changing by the hour. The interior is all wood, and the main level is a large open area for everyone to commune, whether you want to sit by the fire, read, watch TV, sit at the long table that divides the living room from the kitchen, or cook. A special feature is a bridge which extends between bedrooms on the second floor. I felt like a kid again walking across it. The kitchen is decked out with most everything you need, and the firewood is plentiful. The owner is very responsive, and they have nearby caretakers on call, who are friendly and helpful. While the beds are a bit firm for my taste, individual tastes differ. I want to give a BIG shout out to Suds Pub in Bethel (downstairs in the Sudbury Inn). It's a cozy place, with big TVs in the corner for sporting events, a local clientele as well as entertainment on the weekends. And the food is fantastic--we haven't had a bad dish yet, and we've had a fair number of them because we don't go anywhere else. This was the second year in a row we stayed in this cabin and plan to return again at our next opportunity. You will leave relaxed, refreshed, and recharged. Thank you for sharing your home away from home with us.

The space was perfect for our stay and the accommodations were clean and comfortable.

This was an easy commute to Sunday River (took us under 20 minutes) and we loved the accommodations. The view of the pond was stunning at sunset. We had a group of 10 and the accommodations were very comfortable. Highly recommend for a stay to ski and must be expectional also in the summer!
