About Sue Peterson

Our family is very fortunate to live on Cape Cod with it's beautiful ocean beaches and then have this peaceful retreat on a pond in the mountains! We love all the activities of both locations...boating, tennis, hiking, swimming, and skiing!

Sue Peterson purchased this chalet in 2005

Why Sue Peterson chose Stoneham

I chose this Maine rental home because of the privacy, beach, pond, mountain views, and location. It was the family favorite after four years of looking all over Maine!

What makes this chalet unique

Slower heart rate, lower blood pressure, deeper breaths, more laughter, giggles, and smiles. It's a chance to read an entire great book. Enjoy a unique sunset most nights. Have relaxed conversations with family & friends. Embrace nature. Paddle a canoe out to the beaver dams or go down the creek. Tell ghost stories around the campfire. Barbeque a bison burger, drink homemade beer, and have a slice of Melby's BERRY BERRY pie! Enjoy a long, sound sleep!!

Comfortable, woodsy, private -- good swimming/fishing

  • 4 of 5

Comfortable space, well-equipped, and with many amenities. Washer and dryer are a big plus, and we appreciated having cable TV, plus a good collection of DVDs. The chalet is easy to get to, being not far off a main road, but the road noise was minimal despite our having been there when there was seasonally heavy traffic. We loved the openness of the interior of the chalet, with its balcony bedrooms and lots of light. There are tons of windows, which were easy to open for fresh air and cross breezes when it was warm. The wood stove with glass door was easy to use when we wanted to enjoy a fire when it was cooler -- but the chalet is well-heated by its furnace, too. Plenty of wood supplied for fires (not always the case with previous rentals!). The sandy waterfront makes launching a canoe or kayak easy. It's a bit of a climb down steps to get to it, which was not a problem for us (even in our 60s), but it can also be approached with a very short walk to an access road (which would be nice if you bring your own boat in, too). There's a spot for a pond-side fire, too -- definitely a plus, with a beautiful view of the setting sun as darkness falls. It was a little cool for swimming when we were there, but the fishing was good, too, both from the supplied canoe and from the shore. There are only a few other houses around the pond, and we literally had the pond to ourselves for the duration of our stay. The owner is pleasant and easy to communicate with -- also a big plus! All-in-all, this is a fun place in a really nice spot, and there aren't many around with this many amenties in this price range, either. We'd highly recommend it either for small parties, or for larger families (there's an adorable separate bunk house that would be fun for kids).

Beautiful and Peaceful!

  • 5 of 5

The chalet was everything it said and more! Breathtaking views from the back patio to the sunset on the private beach! The chalet was so spacious and we didn't feel we were on top of each other! The bunk house was fun to take the young kids in the morning to play and not wake everyone else! The wood stove was the perfect touch to the cool nights and mornings! This was my first trip to Maine and my first time using VRBO and it did not disappoint! Sue is amazing to work with and I highly recommend Sue and this chalet!

Beautiful Chalet and beach

  • 5 of 5

The chalet is perfect for families or couples. The kitchen has the essentials and the house is in perfect condition with a new stone patio overlooking lake. The sandy beach is perfect for the little ones and for swimming. Will return for a fun vacation at the lake.

AMAZING family vacation!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I rented Sue's Chalet for a week and had an AMAZING time!

The house was as described, well appointed and had a kitchen with more than we anticipated which made our stay. As VRBO owners ourselves, we can be picky and this house did not disappoint! We actually are taking away several ideas to incorporate into our own rental.

Our kids LOVED the pond and all enjoyed the fishing, canoeing and relaxing on the beach. The sunsets were incredible and very relaxing. This was the first vacation in a long time we have not had to pry the electronics from the kids hands (even though the WIFI worked great!) and we hope the sounds of them laughing all day did not disturb the neighbors.

Sue was very easy to deal with and the rental process was easy and secure.

Overall this location is well worth your money and we highly recommend it! We will be return visitors as we just left today and are already discussing renting it again!

Great week Great location Great time Great fishing

  • 5 of 5

Exceptional "camp",not really a camp beautiful home great neighbor support we had no issues the sandy beach was the key ingredient that made it great with young grand children.

The stairs to and from the beach were a challenge.

Beautiful scenic location the moose was away this week on vacation, never saw him/her.

Best ever fishing expierence would drive up just for a day of fishing!

Cheers

This special location is on Proctor Pond on the edge of East Stoneham but in Albany Township (not in a town) but between N. Waterford and Lovell. Many trails around pond and out to waterfalls over river bridge, etc. Nearby gorge, quarry for rock hounds, gorgeous mountain & water views at nearby hikes up Sabattus Mt. in Lovell or Pleasant Mt. in Bridgeton. Relax at chalet with hammock, beach and clear water for swimming, fishing and boating - very private and peaceful but can drive 5--10 min. for theatre, restaurants, galleries, etc. Wonderful vacation location for all ages to enjoy !!
