It is situated between the hamlet of Haggerston to the south and the parish of Mordrington to the north on the banks of the River Tweed. It is well known for its yearly ritual, where Tweedmouth schools choose a "Salmon Queen" to inaugurate "Salmon Week," a custom that extends all the way back to 1292. The community is located in close proximity to a multitude of beaches, historic sites, and the Scottish border, which is only a short distance to the north.
