About the property

Spacious 3 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath home near Takoma Park Metro in great neighborhood

Enjoy this custom-built home in a charming neighborhood within easy walking distance to the Takoma Metro. There is something special about this house, its spaciousness, its open layout - it invites good times and a relaxing place to be after a day in the city.

The house is wonderful; all the rooms are very large, with hardwood floors, high ceilings and lots of light. The huge kitchen with island and open breakfast room is easily the center of the home. And everyone loves to gather here. Right off the kitchen is the family room with French doors that take you out to a deck, where you can sit under 200 year old oak trees. This room has the TV and a piano. The gracious, separate dining room and inviting living room give everyone a place to spread out or to gather and entertain.

The master bedroom with king-size bed has an adjoining, all-windowed office that has been turned into a separate smaller bedroom. The two-room bath has the largest jacuzzi tub you've ever seen. The other two bedrooms offer restful spaciousness, with queen-sized beds, reading nooks and plenty of closet space. They share a recently remodeled bathroom at the end of the hall.

This house would be perfect for one family, 3 couples, 6 adults and 4 kids, or two families with children. One family could take the master suite, the other the two bedrooms down the hall.

Enjoy coffee on the front porch, or barbecuing on the back deck, or lounging in front of the TV. The openness of the house makes it an easy place to cook and share great meals, relax, and enjoy each other's company.

All amenities are provided, including: linens, fully equipped kitchen, flat-screen TVs, comfortable furniture on the front porch and back deck, w/d, central air. Guests have access to all parts of the home except the basement.

We are on a quiet street, near two parks and just two blocks from the heart of Old Town Takoma. It's a less than 10 minute walk up the street to the center of town, which has several great restaurants, fun shops. Everything you need to make your trip enjoyable and easy. The celebrated Farmers Market is on Sundays.

Go two more blocks from the center of town to catch the Takoma Metro. A straight walk from the house takes 15 minutes. If you'd rather drive up, there is a large parking lot at the station. The Metro train ride to the beautiful Union Station is just 10 minutes. You can be at the White House, the Mall or the National Gallery in less than 25 minutes.

There is a very nice couple living downstairs in an apartment in the basement. Please be considerate of noise. We have assured them that guests will be especially quiet between 10pm and 9am. Thank you!

Please park in the gravelly area at the side of the house, just near the side door, where is room for 2 cars. If you have more than 2 cars, please park any others down on Westmoreland Avenue.

The cooktop is gas and its sparker isn't working well, so you have to use a lighter to light it. And if you are using the washing machine, please don't load it too full. It seems to want to stop mid-cycle if loaded more than about 1/2 or 2/3 full.

While we are not allowing any parties or gatherings at the house, if you have any guests at all over to the house please be sure to let them know about the parking and the apartment in the basement.

Please also let us know if you are planning on bringing a pet.

Please leave the house in the condition you found it. Empty the trash and garbage and take the garbage to the garbage cans that are outside the mudroom door. There are also bins for recycling outside.

Please strip the sheets from the beds and leave them in one big pile. If you can start a load of wash for us, we would really appreciate it --- especially if we have guests checking in the same day as you leave! Thank you!

We hope you enjoy the house as much as we do when we are there. Our neighbors are quiet and respectful and friendly, and we hope to keep everyone happy about having an Airbnb in the neighborhood!

We do have basic cable, and both of our TVs can stream HULU, Netflix, etc.

About Susan DeBonis

I spent many years living in Washington DC working on national campaigns for child safety, sustainable agriculture, and fair trade. About 20 years ago, I was charmed by a man who loved the forest more than the city, and we moved to Hood River, Oregon on the promise that we would spend half our time on each coast. We now have a son in high school and spend most of our time in Hood River.

I love the Pacific Northwest, but I also love our special house and its adjoining little house, and our neighborhood in Takoma Park. Sharing our homes allows us to indulge my bi-coastal, country-city loyalties.

Susan DeBonis purchased this house in 1992

Why Susan DeBonis chose Manor Park

I'm excited to share our home with you. I bought this house when I was young and single. I paid for it by having housemates. We had a great time and many of us are still close friends today. With all the housemates, and all the friends visiting, and all the short-term stays, many people have enjoyed our home's welcome embrace. It sounds crazy, but you will know what I mean once you get there.

What makes this house unique

I also love the neighborhood. It's a quiet street, with many long-time neighbors. We've seen our children grow up, we know each other's pets. We shovel snow together when DC gets the big storms and then hole up in one of our houses to enjoy the stopping of time until the snow melts..

Through the warmer months, we love our front porch where we can look out onto the street, but also enjoy privacy because we are perched up high. It's a very pleasant walk to downtown/old town Takoma, where there are funky shops and wonderful restaurants. A mainstay of the town is the Sunday Farmer's Market. It's a sure place to run into someone you know.

The Takoma Metro can get you to Union Station in 10 minutes, Dupont Circle in 20. If you want to get to the Mall, you can transfer and be there in about 35-40 minutes.

Wonderful Home. Quiet Neighborhood.

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here with our 2 little dogs the week of April 22nd. The home was very clean and very spacious. It was absolutely perfect for us. The bed was comfortable. The shower in the master bedroom is a little small, but not unbearable...hot water and water pressure was very good. The heating and air worked great. The kitchen is very nicely stocked. The washer and dryer were also added conveniences. The only thing I would point out is that there is a family that lives in the basement. Most evenings when we were in the den watching tv we could hear them and a few times they sounded like they were about to come in the door. They have a young child that was occasionally loud, but it wasn't so bad that it would keep me from staying here again. And it wasn't something that was continual the whole time. The neighborhood is so quiet! Everyone was friendly and you could tell it was a safe neighborhood by all the children playing outdoors and enjoying the sunshine.

The metro station is about 1/2 mile from the house. We walked there a couple of days, but after walking a lot on our visits to DC, we decided to park in the parking lot for the metro. The back lot is for parking after 10 am. All parking is only for 7 hours, however, we were not ticketed when we parked in the 10 am lot at 9:15 am and were gone for almost 8 hours.

Susan was the perfect host, always quick to respond with any questions I had. I would definitely recommend this beautiful home and if we're in the DC area again, we will certainly stay here!

Great house! Everything we needed was provided and the host was very nice.

We were two families of 4 that met and stayed. Great home, everything was clean, plenty of linens and necessities. Great location. It’s a 10 minute walk to get to the metro, some of it is a pretty big uphill slope.

The master bed is comfortable, our daughter slept in the small room. Three boys shared one room, and the other couple shared the queen bed. I’m not sure how this house would sleep 11.

We had a deer visit us in the backyard a few times. We would have loved to use the outdoor porches but we had a lot of rain.

Overall great stay!

Owner's Response: Thanks Meredith! I’m so happy to hear you had a good time. We have 3 nice quality memory foam floor mattresses if there are more guests to accommodate. We had taken those out of the house to use downstairs in the apartment during your stay. That’s how we sleep 11 - it works well again for kids and for families. Thanks again for taking such good care of the house!

Nothing I would change!

  • 5 of 5

We were a group of 4 adults and 2 children. We were very comfortable and the house was so nice! Plenty of space for us. The one thing that was really nice was the hot water. We never ran out! Six people taking morning showers and we never had a problem. The TV did not want to work, but we just streamed instead. I would have liked to have more curtains too but that is a personal thing that I really got over after the first day. Al in all, it was close to DC and in a very family friendly neighborhood. I would definitely recommend staying here for your DC trip!

Spacious house in cozy, convenient neighborhood

  • 5 of 5

We were in the area for our son’s graduation from UMD College Park and this house worked perfectly for us. First floor has an open layout with large kitchen that was great for our group of six adults along with some student visitors, we were able to cook a large meal easily and entertain. All the rooms upstairs and downstairs are expansive. The couple in the basement rental were helpful and pleasant. We ate at the trattoria in the town one night, a party of nine and we had good service and food. It was convenient, only a half mile walk, in a neat little town. Overall our two day stay was as good as we could expect. Thanks Susan!

This is a really nice house in a great neighborhood! Don't think that you can give a better compliment than saying that we plan to come back the next time we are in this neck of the woods. Would be great for a gathering place for friends and family. Walking distance to shops and restaurants. We had a very pleasant stay.
