The city is the first port on the southern border of Bulgaria and since 1995 it has been declared international.
Tsarevo is located at the foot of Strandja Mountain - where it descends to the sea. To the south of the town is Papia Peak with an altitude of 502 meters, from where the view of Tsarevo and the Strandja coast is amazing. The city is located on three small peninsulas and four bays respectively, which makes it unique for Bulgaria. The location of the city is similar to that of Rio de Janeiro on a much smaller scale (many bays and small beaches, proximity to the mountain). The coastline is very indented, alternating rocky peninsulas with small picturesque beaches.
