About Burt Butler

Having grown up on a lake in northern Minnesota, when Burt Butler moved from North Carolina to Idaho in 1993 to work for the state court system, one of his dreams was to find secluded lakefront property that his four children could enjoy, and ultimately build a cabin that the family could consider a comfortable second home. That dream came true in 1998 when Burt Butler found a unique secluded lakefront property on a peninsula with a gentle shoreline and spectacular fishing with no motor boats allowed on the lake. In the Fall of 2001 the elegant and rustic cabin was started and finished in June 2002.

Burt Butler purchased this cabin in 2001

Why Burt Butler chose Ashton

Our secluded vacation property, with close proximity to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, is only a 75 minute drive from our home in Idaho Falls, and offered year round recreation opportunity for our family. Swimming, canoeing, fishing and outdoor fires under the stars in the summer, Fall colors and 4 wheeling in the sand dunes adjacent to the lake, and early winter ice skating, and when the snow gets deep great cross country skiing and snow mobiling and the enjoyment of a wood stove.

What makes this cabin unique

Peace, quiet, fires outside and inside, barbecue on the deck and dutch oven cooking, great fishing, wildlife variety from frogs, beavers, trumpeteer swans, birds of all varieties including bald eagles, moose, deer, to a sighting of a wolf.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We came up for a relaxing, long weekend over Father's Day Weekend. The kids loved the kayaks, rope swing and campfire. A lot of marshmallows were and have been roasted there. We enjoyed our meals on the beautiful deck. The cabin was/is a perfect getaway, big enough, but not too big. We wished we had been able to catch more fish- our fish dinner consisted of one fish- it was a nice rainbow though! It was gorgeous weather- not too hot with awesome cool nights. Thank you for providing a great cabin for many people. We hope to enjoy it years into the future! Thank you again!

Peace and Tranquility

  • 5 of 5

Great place to stay in a great location. Cannot say enough nice things about the cabin, the lake, the area, and the wonderful stay my family and I had for our holiday getaway.

Burt Butler deserves mention as a very welcoming and helpful host. He made sure we were able to get safely in to the cabin through the snow, and set us up with snowmobiles to go where our vehicles could not. The price we paid was fair and we definitely got a good value. We plan to do again.

We have stayed here twice & we absolutely love it!!!!

  • 5 of 5

Burt's cabin is in great condition & has everything you will possibly need to have a wonderful stay. It's cozy & comfortable!! Plenty of room to bring friends or family. LOVE the deck outside, fire pit area & the beach area is so peaceful & serene. Burt is fantastic to work with & after 2 visits I feel like we are already friends. The location is very secluded & private which is exactly what we were looking for when we found this hidden gem. I think between both trips we saw 6 people in 10 days. That in itself is worth renting this cabin. The surrounding scenery is beautiful, the wildlife abundant & the fishing is fabulous. I would also recommend visiting Upper & Lower Mesa Falls, Big Springs & Harriman State Park all within close proximity. The whole area is beautiful!! We are hoping to visit Butlers Lake Front Cabin annually. Thank you Burt for sharing with us!! See ya next year :)

Your Perfect "Get Away From it All" Vacation Spot

  • 5 of 5

Butler's Lakefront Cabin is the perfect spot to get away from it all. Nestled on the edge of the Upper Arcadia Reservoir, the cabin has everything you need to relax and enjoy life. The cabin is in great condition offering all the creature comforts you can imagine. The views from the cabin are phenomenal especially the sunsets. Although the cabin is a bit remote and you have to travel over miles of unpaved dirt roads to get there, it is well worth the effort. I would stay here again. Definitely recommend this cabin to anyone looking to visit eastern Idaho.

Best Weekend ever!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was perfect! Charming, clean, private, and the owner is so nice and helpful! The lake was beautiful and the cabin has a huge private lake access! We rowed around and were on the lake all by ourselves the entire weekend. We saw a moose, a bald eagle, a skunk, plenty of deer and birds and the most beautiful sunsets ever! A short 30 min drive took us to the Upper Mesa Falls which were incredible. The cabin was well furnished, had plenty of beds, and had such a peaceful feel to it! We hope to come back next year! Thank you, Burt for such a great weekend!
