Enchanted Mill in Wiltshire
This enchanted house is located half a mile down a track, deep in the Wiltshire woods. Bluebells, wild garlic and often a deer, muntjac or heron in the garden, the house is on the edge of an estate with incredible walking from the doorstep.
The space
The Mill is full of surprises. From the garden side, it appears to have just two floors. There are actually three. The ground floor is a spectacular double height 50’ kitchen/living room. The well-equipped kitchen is perfect for serving feasts on the long oak table with seating for 10. Sofas and arm chairs surround a huge wood burner. The heated limestone floors keep the place snug in the winter. Thick stone walls keep things cool in the summer. There is a WC downstairs.
A giant spiral staircase climbs through the building. The house sleeps 6-8. The galleried first floor has a mini grand piano and a double bed (for sleeping places 7 & 8). The third bedroom is on this floor with double glass doors that make it feel like you are sleeping in the trees.
Two vaulted bedrooms, one with king-size bed and the other with 2 single beds, offer views in all directions. Between them is the family bathroom - shower, roll-top bath and all.
Outside, a stream babbles passed the french windows in the kitchen. A large garden surrounds a millpond with an island accessible only by the (tiny) rowing boat. There is a exquisite wooden guest house at the end of the pond available by separate negotiation. The mill has a special wilderness status with roe deer, muntjacs, heron, badgers, foxes foraging through wild orchids and foxgloves all over the place. In the spring, the woods are packed with bluebells and wild garlic. The house is on the edge of a 700-acre estate with spectacular walking right from the doorstep. Please note, there is a public footpath through the property so every now and again, a walker wanders through.
Guest access
The Mill is located at the end of a long, quite bumpy track and is nestled in a valley. Guests have access to the garden, pond, stream and all surrounding estate walks. There is a small boat for the pond, a garden table and chairs as well as a fire pit.
Other things to note
It is also worth noting there is a stream and a pond so small children must be monitored by adults at all times and if you build open fires, this is, of course, your responsibility too.
