About this property

The Ledges Resort and Marina, Lighthouse

The Lighthouse is a three bedroom, two bath home. It is actually a floating cottage! If you have your own boat or rent one you can tie it up right in front of your living room! There is a deck all the way around the cottage on the lower level. The master bedroom has a balcony with a view of Boldt Castle. It's a great place to fish or just relax and enjoy the river.
Upstairs: The master bedroom has a queen size bed. The balcony has a spectacular view of the Boldt Castle and Sunken Rock Lighthouse. The second bedroom upstairs has two queen beds. The upstairs bathroom has a stand-up shower.
Downstairs: There is a large entryway. This leads to the downstairs bedroom, bathroom, and living room/kitchen. The downstairs bedroom has a double bed. The bathroom has a full tub and shower. The living area is combined with the kitchen. The kitchen features a full size stove/oven, full size refrigerator/freezer, microwave, coffee maker, and dishwasher. It has all new cooking utensils, pots, pans, glasses, and dishes. It is fully equipped. There is a dining table with seating for 6. The living room offers a beautiful view of the river. There are french doors that open up to the deck. The deck is equipped with a dinning table, chairs, and gas grill.
Luxury shampoo, conditioner, and hand soap are provided by Beekman 1802. The beds are made with fresh linens. Bath towels, hand towels, and washcloths are also provided.
Everything is prepped and ready to make your vacation relaxing and comfortable. Just bring yourself!
- Welcome to The Ledges Resort & Marina! We are located directly on the St. Lawrence River across from Boldt Castle. We have views of the castle, Sunken Rock Lighthouse, and the main shipping channel. There are decks, docks, hammocks, and gazebos all across our six-acre property. You will find many beautiful spots to relax, read a book, take a walk, or go fishing. We have a large in-ground pool and deck area. Every cottage has its own fire-pit where you can warm up under the stars. We even provide the firewood! There are plenty of open lawn areas to play catch, lawn games, or just take a walk.
The Ledges offers a peaceful getaway with six acres of landscaped grounds along the water. While the grounds provide privacy and lots of space, we are not in a remote location. It’s a quick and easy walk downtown Alexandria Bay. We are close to all of the attractions. At the Ledges you have the best of both worlds, relaxation and convenience!

Awesome House on the Water

This property was awesome! Stayed with some co-workers for a fishing charter trip. House was clean and fit 5 people comfortably. Met the people at the rental house next door and made new friends. Property has a bunch of firepits with awesome view of the sunset over Boldt Castle. The owners were great to communicate with and very accommodating. We are hoping to have the entire office stay at the Ledges for next year's fishing trip.

Great stay in A-Bay

Our family loved our stay here. The check in process was very easy. The house was clean and the kitchen was stocked with everything we needed for cooking - which was a great bonus. The property was so beautiful and well kept. We loved watching the sunset in the gazebo, relaxing in the hammock and fishing off the dock. The kids had a great time in the pool. We were about 5 minutes from downtown A-Bay and 20 minutes from Clayton. We would very much recommend this property for anyone looking to stay in the area. When we come back we would definitely stay here again!!

I do have a couple of concerns, there was a strong sewer smell there during our stay, i did approach Nick to inform him of a plumbing issue they have, plus in addition to that the property is surrounded with decking, which is fairly old, there were numerous screws protruding from the deck, i managed to cut my heel on such a screw... I would need these issues taken care of prior to me booking anpther week there, which i might add i wouldnt hesitate...

We enjoyed staying here. There were a few hic ups but we survived. Downstairs bedroom door doesn’t close because of the bed frame but for us it was fine. There are only 2 bathrooms. It says 3 bathrooms in amenities but that is false.that was a disappointment because there was seven of us in the house. If you have two vehicles, you can only park one near where you stay. The other one has to be parked in the overflow parking lot. We stayed in the floating house and the house definitely does move with the water so if you have motion sickness, you would definitely want to take something and bring something with you. We use patches behind our ears so it wasn’t too bad for us, but you can feel the house moving, especially when a boat goes by, it was very peaceful. It was nice to sit on the deck at sunset. We rented the pontoon boat and a captain and that was great. We enjoyed that very much. We were able to anchor the boat and go swimming the house clean and we were very close to thousand it’s a five minute drive , we would definitely stay here again. The owners were nice and communicated back-and-forth when needed.

A little surprised how small it was as it looks bigger in the pics. Staff was friendly and helpful. I think it’s pretty high priced for not being able to check in till 4pm and out by 10am. Not enough time to fully enjoy the stay. However, overall it was an incredible view and good experience.

Wonderful stay

My boys, 10 and 12, and I stayed at the lighthouse cottage at The Ledges. Our original plans were to have my parents and my husband with us, but separate family issues arose that halved our party. There would have been plenty of room for us all to sleep comfortably. The cottage itself was clean and comfortable, including the lovely front deck right on the water. The grounds are beautiful and comfortable as well, with a hammock and three separate, spacious areas for camp fires. Communication with Nick and Amy and their team was top notch from beginning to end. Each individual we interacted with was friendly, prompt and very helpful. We rented one of the available boats one day, which was a seamless experience and very convenient, and both Nick and Eric went out of their way to assist me. Almost everything seems to have been thoughtfully arranged from the wares in the kitchen to the bucket of kindling and campfire wood neatly stacked by each campfire pit and replenished daily. My one recommendation would be for outdoor cushions on the wooden chairs on the deck. Otherwise it was a very comfortable stay and we hope to return!

We loved this spot. Great view. Could dock the boat right outside the house. They provided linens, toilet paper, Kleenex and Lysol wipes which was very nice. Been some places where they had no toilet paper. Used the kayaks. They were very nice as were the life vests. They even provide fire wood for the fire pits. Overall we had a great time.

Terrific spot on the water

My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Our main regret was only staying 2 nights. Beautiful view; sunsets were gorgeous. If you're looking at the picture with 2 cottages side-by-side (view looking in from the water), it's the one on the left. Great fishing right off the dock - perch, bass, and some big carp. Multiple fire pits with plenty of chairs on the property, so you don't necessarily have to share a fire with strangers if you don't want to (owners supply firewood). Great views of Boldt castle on the property; unfortunately not from the cottage itself. Amy was an exceptional host.

Visiting from Southern California for a wedding at Thousand Islands Park. Stayed in one of the three bedroom units on a floating pier. Quiet, beautiful unit right at the entrance of a small marina, our fishing charter picked us up on the dock! Very special for landlubbers. Owners couldn’t be nicer and accommodating. Kids can catch fish right from the unit off the railing. Close to restaurants and market. Fire pits to enjoy the evening. Go there !!!

Awesome place to stay for vacation!

The house was better than expected. It's floating on the water, with a beautiful view over the lake. You can also see the castle! On the deck is everything you need for BBQ and eating outside with this amazing view is an experience! The only minus is that the fireplace wasn't working and there was not enough cups & silverware for 8 people. But I'm sure the host will take care of! Thanks so much!

The Ledges Resort & Marina started with my grandparents Nicholas J Schaefer and his wife Amy. They purchased the property in 1961 and made it their home. In 1963 they built a motel and named it The Ledges. They also opened a German restaurant on the property named The Old World Inn. They closed the restaurant 1982, but continued with the motel. In later years the motel was managed by my parents, Jerome and Deborah Schaefer. They expanded into the marina and cottage rental business. In 2013 after 50 years in business we made a decision as a family to close the business and tear down the motel.

In 2014 my wife and I purchased the property from my parents. We remodeled the old buildings and built brand new cottages from the ground up. We re-opened to guests in the spring of 2015. I was named after my grandfather, Nicholas, and it just so happens that my wife’s name is Amy. So, once again Nick & Amy are your hosts at the Ledges!
