Way too Loud!
If noise is an issue don't rent this place! Besides the busy road -you are across the street from a hotel where the delivery trucks are backing up all night. We lasted one night...
We hope to return as we had such a great time at Casa Zafiro! The house is spacious and well equipped. We were there in April and we’re grateful for a/c in all the rooms but mainly used the ceiling fans as there was plenty of fresh air for cross breeze. Having your own private pool was the best with kids. Access to the beach was also wonderful! Great, calm water and soft sand. We usually had the beach to ourselves too. The highway noise can be quite loud at times but it didn’t bother us at all. The $8 peso bus ride to PV is very convenient as it stops directly out front. Deb, the owner was very responsive to every question and any of the workers that visited the property were very friendly, respectful and courteous. This is such great value, highly recommended!
We spent 11 wonderful days at Casa Zafiro. The house was just as it looked in the pictures and the iguanas were very entertaining. We didn’t find the pool cold but perfectly refreshing. The beach across the street is beautiful and we enjoyed snorkeling in it. There is road noise but it didn’t bother us or the children. It was fun to find little markets to buy food in and if you head a little further south you can find some great little towns and restaurants. I would highly recommend staying here. We hope to be able to come back.
Overall it was a very positive experience. We loved the climate here. The location is good.
The house is very comfortable for up to 6 people. There were five of us and our 9 month old grand daughter. We like the separate bathroom feature. The open concept onto the patio is also nice. The pool is nice to look at and sit by but it is too cold to use. If it was even slightly heated it would be much better. The main issue is the proximity to the road. There is lots of noise all day and on and off during the night. If you want constant quietness you may not enjoy it here. The beach across the road is quite nice and easy to get to. The Orange bus to the Old Town is 30 metres from the driveway and the service is good. 8 pesos per person one way. Once you are there you have access to everything you might need. We also took the bus the other way to Boca de Tomatlan one day. As I said, overall it was a positive experience. The noise issue is what it is in Latin culture. We are used to it. Knowing that I would recommend coming here if you can adjust to that. Earplugs work well at night and it does get significantly quieter at night.
Truly charming place in just the right location!
Casa Zafiro was the perfect place for our family of five to spend a week enjoying all that the Puerto Vallarta area has to offer. The Mexican-style villa is airy and comfortable, with numerous beautiful and whimsical decorative touches. Three bathrooms with lots of hot water as well as the laundry machines made life easier for everyone. We spent many hours out on the wonderfully tropical and private terrace, splashing in the pool (our twin daughters, who turned during our visit, learned to swim on their own in the pool!), barbequing lunch or dinner on the charcoal grill, or just relaxing. Regular daily appearances by the resident iguana fascinated the children, who loved watching it eat the fruit they tossed to it.
The villa is perfectly located very near a bus stop, which affords easy transportation to Puerto Vallarta (about 10 minutes), or further south to a number of fantastic destinations. We spent many days on the beautiful beach which is easily accessed almost right across the road down a short path next to the Garza Blanca hotel. Beautifully soft sand and stone breakwater out in front of the swimming area make for clear, calm waters; basically like having a huge swimming pool in the ocean, complete with a variety of colorful fish. Our 5 year old daughter learned to snorkel on this trip, and seeing her react to everything she was able to see in the ocean was amazing.
I was glad we didn't rent a car for our stay. The local buses are convenient, easy to use, and very affordable (if a little bumpy). Including Playa Garza Blanca directly across the road, there are two other great beaches within less than 10 minute's walking - Punta Negra and Gemelas. If you're feeling adventurous, you can even find a spectacular "secret" waterfall about 1/2 hour hike directly from the villa! Wear water shoes, and bring your camera.
The location next to the road does mean there is traffic noise. Please keep in mind this is true of many accommodations in the PV area, where everything is wedged between the mountains and the sea. Anyway, we did not find the noise obtrusive.
Thank you Debra for allowing us to enjoy your peaceful Mexican getaway. We hope that we will be able to return soon!

Second Visit....still amazing!
Stayed here for 10 days last year and loved it so much we thought.....hey, let's stay for a month next time! Fast forward to this April and we arrive at the villa to have Rene greet us once more; the smells, sights, and sounds of Casa Zafiro embracing us like an old friend...ahhhhh! The staff here is wonderful and can never do enough for you...any issue we had was addressed promptly and with a smile. Lot's of wildlife around.....the geckos, iguanas, and coatis all part of the charm and we enjoyed watching them. We had no issues with the coatis getting into the house but we did keep the open areas locked up at night. Used the bus service quite often....it was convenient and very inexpensive at 8 pesos. We did alot of grilling and cooking at the villa.....was alot of fun trying new dishes and shopping in the local markets for the freshest seafood, meat, and fruits/veggies! The kitchen was equipped with most everything we needed and the water dispenser is wonderful to have if you are concerned about drinking from the tap. There are many great restaurants in Puerto Vallarta as well....from higher end to street food we tried many; some of our new favorites being Mariscos Cisneros and Santo Tacote for cheaper eats, Cafe de Olla for moderate, and Anejo Limon for higher end (but still inexpensive compared to home). The location of Casa Zafiro is in such a beautiful area and is central to many activities, whether you want to go north into the main part of Puerto Vallarta or south to Mismaloya or Boca to catch a water taxi to many hidden or less touristy beaches. Thanks to the staff and Debra for another wonderful trip......we will be back!
Puerta Vallarta has everything you could hope for, there is swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, horseback riding, parasailing, and many different day boat cruises and tours. The area has some great golf courses, and a waterpark. Puerta Vallarta is known for it's nightlife as well. There are many popular bars and disco's. A boardwalk runs the length of most of the downtown area (Malecon), which is the place to go for an evening stroll, it has Artists displaying their work, shopping, local food vendors, a nightly fireworks show, just to name a couple of attractions.
Other Activities: Puerto Vallarta has activities to many to mention some include, tours of rain forest, day cruises, water sports of all kind, great shopping.
