About the House:
Constructed in the 1880’s, this house was designed by and became the personal home of Danish architect CE Burden famous for this and several other historic residences in Washington. The house stands elegantly facing Providence Park on a lovely street that is a few blocks from EVERYTHING!
This home was superbly renovated in early 2018. The renovation included all new top-shelf appliances in the kitchen and laundry room, 4 bathrooms, new windows, fresh paint and refinished floors. The house is replete with beautiful architectural details such as artisanal tile, 12-foot ceilings, hardwood floors, pocket doors, sky light, exposed brick walls, 4 fireplaces (3 working), en suite bathrooms, and elegant built-ins. The house has lots of natural light, AC, Wi-Fi, shaded back patio with grill, and lovely patio with outdoor dining space.
Kids love the parks; tourists love its proximity to the National Mall filled with museums, monuments, shops, and other sights; sports fans like to walk to baseball and soccer stadiums and bars; lobbyist and appointees like its proximity to the Capitol and House offices. We like best that it is a tree-covered neighborhood with excellent schools and a small town feel that is walkable to absolutely everything.
The Set-Up:
The house comfortably sleeps 6 with 3 bedrooms; each with their own en suite bathroom.
- 1st bedroom is the Master bedroom (third level). It has a queen size bed, fireplace, built in armoires, attached laundry, master bathroom, and wonderful view of the park
- 2nd guest bedroom (third level) has one single bed, ample closet, custom built ins, en suite bathroom
- 3rd guest bedroom (second level) sleeps three with a full-size bed, single bunk up top, 2 ample closets, en suite bathroom
Living Room (second level) has large fireplace, lovely built-ins, and a magnificent view of the park.
First floor has the eat in chef's kitchen with 6-burner gas stove, convection oven, top-of-the-line appliances, and gas fireplace with Spanish tile on those chilly winter mornings. The kitchen connects through French doors to a tree covered patio on one side and a separate dining room on the other --great for entertaining.

About the Neighborhood:
Capitol Hill is the largest historic residential neighborhood in Washington D.C., stretching easterly in front of the United States Capitol along wide avenues. It is one of the oldest residential communities in Washington D.C.
As a geographic feature, Capitol Hill rises near the center of the District of Columbia and its neighborhood extends eastward. The Capitol Hill neighborhood today straddles two quadrants of the city, Southeast and Northeast, and a large portion is now designated as the Capitol Hill historic district. The name Capitol Hill is often used to refer to both the historic district and to the larger neighborhood around it.
The main non-residential corridor of Capitol Hill is Pennsylvania Avenue, a lively commercial street with shops, restaurants and bars. Eastern Market is an 1873 public market on 7th Street SE, where vendors sell fresh meat and produce in indoor stalls and at outdoor farmers' stands. It is also the site of an outdoor flea market every weekend.
Safety:
Due to the number of parks, proximity to the US Capitol, and the number of congressmen, senators & political appointees who nearby, this area is protected by no less than 4 different security agencies: US Capitol Police, US Park Police, the DC Police and the secret service.
About Us:
We are a US diplomatic family serving overseas. We love this neighborhood’s parks, great school a block away, its accessibility to everything coupled with the quietness of the block. No matter where we have lived or traveled, this is our favorite place to be. If you are a Foreign Service, military or other government family, we aim to be a soft-landing for families transitioning in or out of Washington, for change of station, training, medevac, or vacation.
Our Preferred Rental:
Our preference is for longer-term stays, ideally a month or more that accommodate families in transition. We can try to accommodate shorter rental, but really aim for this house to be a temporary home, a safe and soft landing for families moving to the area, transitioning from overseas, families on medevac, or government TDY.
