** Casa Sonrisa is a fully-licensed short-term rental property. (City of Santa Fe short-term rental license #11-00049485) **

Welcome to Casa Sonrisa! Walk everywhere from this darling casita in the hip & historic Guadalupe/Railyard neighborhood. Available to rent year-round, for multi-day, weekly, and monthly stays.

In this sweet adobe home, every effort has been made to assure you of a comfortable and memorable stay, starting with a 'welcome' bottle of New Mexico wine. We've decorated our casita with local art and furniture, and hope that it will feel like your own cheerful home in Santa Fe.

2 bedrooms sleep 4 people, with a queen bed in one room and a king bed in the other. Each is made up with a down comforter (non-down/hypo-allergenic comforters available upon request). There is also a sofa in the living room that folds out into a full-size bed, accommodating 1-2 more people. The master bedroom boasts its own kiva fireplace, and both bedrooms share a private outdoor patio. There is a bathroom adjoining the master bedroom, and another large bathroom in the main hallway. Each bedroom has a ceiling fan.

(Please note that the queen bed is somewhat high off the floor for some elderly or very young guests.)

The house is equipped with all the conveniences you might need during your stay: wifi, 2 televisions and DVD players, cable, a stereo, iPod speakers, W/D, D/W, linens/towels, hairdryers, terrycloth spa robes, and extra toiletries.

Traditional in style, the casita features extra high viga (beam) ceilings, 2 kiva fireplaces, brick floors throughout, and Mexican tile in the bathrooms and kitchen. Casa Sonrisa is a one-level home, making it a comfortable option for those who prefer no stairs.

There is off-street parking in front of the house for 1 vehicle.

We are pleased to offer a non-smoking environment.

Pets (1) considered on a case-by-case basis. Please inquire.

About Taru Helne

We're a mother and daughter who own the house together. Our family is originally from the Washington, DC area, and we also lived in Rome, Italy for 4 years. Currently, my mother lives in Virginia, and I live in Washington, DC. We're avid fans of the arts, especially music (our photo is at the Santa Fe opera), and lovers of the outdoors. Santa Fe is a great place for those things and more.

Casa Sonrisa is our family's home when we're in town, but primarily a vacation rental property for most of the year. While we are not local, our gracious caretaker will be available for any questions or concerns you may have during your stay. We look forward to hosting you soon!

Taru Helne purchased this house in 2004

Why Taru Helne chose Santa Fe

The Guadalupe/Railyard neighborhood is thriving, with lots of shops, restaurants, galleries, and a great farmer's market within walking distance. Plus, the Santa Fe's famous plaza is just a short 10-minute walk away. Since we put down roots in this part of town 12 years ago, it continues to evolve and become more interesting every time we visit.

What makes this house unique

We fell in love with our casita because it is sweet and unique. With architectural touches such as viga ceilings throughout, banco seating in the main room, and even a little nicho tucked into the hallway wall, our casita offers a cozy and traditional environment to our guests. Also, the location can't be beat!

Quaint and charming adobe home!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I traveled with another couple for a long weekend and we adored this place! It allowed us plenty of room for all four of us and a dog. The house is well-kept with plenty of amenities and decorated to fit the style of Santa Fe. The cleaning service was still cleaning the house when we arrived at 4:30 pm (check-in was at 4:00pm), which was a little odd, but they left us a bottle of Gruet champagne - a lovely touch.

Taru was excellent to work with and incredibly thoughtful. She even personally wrote me an email prior to our trip recommending we attend the Wine Festival, which we did and thoroughly enjoyed.

If you do stay here in the summer, be aware there is no central A/C, but Taru left us plenty of fans and a portable A/C unit which kept us comfortable in the evening. I would love to return in the winter to utilize the Kiva fireplace! So cozy! It set our standards high for our first trip to Santa Fe and we look forward to returning.

Lovely stay at Casa Sonrisa

  • 4 of 5

Great location. Very comfortable for sleeping and relaxing. Well provisioned and delightfully decorated with Southwest appointments. Bathroom toiletries need to be fresh and unused!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words - so glad that you enjoyed your stay! Our property manager looked into the toiletry issue, and it appears that a few opened toiletries had been placed back into the basket we keep under the sink with mini hotel shampoos, etc., for our guests who forget something. The opened items have now been discarded, and we'll be sure to keep an eye on that. We appreciate the heads up!

Lovely Casita!

  • 5 of 5

Enjoyed our stay - the Casita is very conveniently located, can walk to many dining options, the Plaza, etc. There is ample off street parking for 1 car. We had everything we needed in the kitchen, and the home is comfy, welcoming, relaxing.

We enjoyed our coffee in the a.m. outdoors on the front patio. Such a treat!

The owners provided ample instructions and are available if you need anything. We were pleasantly surprised to find a bottle of NM Champagne awaiting us when we arrived - we were celebrating our 20th anniversary. If you stay here, you won't be disappointed!

A great Santa Fe stay

  • 5 of 5

This home was located in a very quiet neighborhood quite close to the Railyard. It was exactly as presented by Taru, the owner. The house was quite well stocked with everything a guest could want, and with two bedrooms and two bathrooms it was very comfortable for two couples to have their own space. Had the weather been warmer we could have enjoyed the patio, too. When I inquired ahead of our stay about a French Press for coffee making, the owner immediately ordered one for our use - that was very accommodating!

We were close to all the restaurants we planned to visit, both near the Plaza, as well as Cerillos road. We also enjoyed having a place to park the car off the street. All the directions were clear and helpful, the house was roomy and very clean. We enjoyed our stay at Casa Sonrisa and would choose it again. Thank you, Taru

Lovely home close to the Plaza

  • 4 of 5

My family of five thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Sonrisa. The property is a quaint, charming place that's laid out nicely for a larger group (the kitchen and living room are seperate from the bedrooms). The owner left a bottle of New Mexican wine which was a thoughtful touch. It was a quick walk to the Plaza, and an even quicker walk to the excellent Cowgirl BBQ restaurant and Railyard area. The only reason I didn't rate this a five is because, prior to booking, I hadn't realized that Agua Fria was a busy road, and the master bedroom's mattress was quite hard, but otherwise, this is an excellent rental which I strongly recommend!
