About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6)

** Casa Sonrisa is a fully-licensed short-term rental property. (City of Santa Fe short-term rental license #11-00049485) **

Welcome to Casa Sonrisa! Walk everywhere from this darling casita in the hip & historic Guadalupe/Railyard neighborhood. Available to rent year-round, for multi-day, weekly, and monthly stays.

In this sweet adobe home, every effort has been made to assure you of a comfortable and memorable stay, starting with a 'welcome' bottle of New Mexico wine. We've decorated our casita with local art and furniture, and hope that it will feel like your own cheerful home in Santa Fe.

2 bedrooms sleep 4 people, with a queen bed in one room and a king bed in the other. Each is made up with a down comforter (non-down/hypo-allergenic comforters available upon request). There is also a sofa in the living room that folds out into a full-size bed, accommodating 1-2 more people. The master bedroom boasts its own kiva fireplace, and both bedrooms share a private outdoor patio. There is a bathroom adjoining the master bedroom, and another large bathroom in the main hallway. Each bedroom has a ceiling fan.

(Please note that the queen bed is somewhat high off the floor for some elderly or very young guests.)

The house is equipped with all the conveniences you might need during your stay: wifi, 2 televisions and DVD players, cable, a stereo, iPod speakers, W/D, D/W, linens/towels, hairdryers, terrycloth spa robes, and extra toiletries.

Traditional in style, the casita features extra high viga (beam) ceilings, 2 kiva fireplaces, brick floors throughout, and Mexican tile in the bathrooms and kitchen. Casa Sonrisa is a one-level home, making it a comfortable option for those who prefer no stairs.

There is off-street parking in front of the house for 1 vehicle.

We are pleased to offer a non-smoking environment.

Pets (1) considered on a case-by-case basis. Please inquire.

About Taru & Mary

We're a mother and daughter who own the house together. Our family is originally from the Washington, DC area, and we also lived in Rome, Italy for 4 years. Currently, my mother lives in Virginia, and I live in Washington, DC. We're avid fans of the arts, especially music (our photo is at the Santa Fe opera), and lovers of the outdoors. Santa Fe is a great place for those things and more.

Casa Sonrisa is our family's home when we're in town, but primarily a vacation rental property for most of the year. While we are not local, our gracious caretaker will be available for any questions or concerns you may have during your stay. We look forward to hosting you soon!

Taru & Mary purchased this house in 2004

Why Taru & Mary chose Downtown

The Guadalupe/Railyard neighborhood is thriving, with lots of shops, restaurants, galleries, and a great farmer's market within walking distance. Plus, the Santa Fe's famous plaza is just a short 10-minute walk away. Since we put down roots in this part of town in 2004, it continues to evolve and become more interesting every time we visit.

What makes this house unique

We fell in love with our casita because it is sweet and unique. With architectural touches such as viga ceilings throughout, banco seating in the main room, and even a little nicho tucked into the hallway wall, our casita offers a cozy and traditional environment to our guests. Also, the location can't be beat!

A great Santa Fe stay

  • 5 of 5

This home was located in a very quiet neighborhood quite close to the Railyard. It was exactly as presented by Taru, the owner. The house was quite well stocked with everything a guest could want, and with two bedrooms and two bathrooms it was very comfortable for two couples to have their own space. Had the weather been warmer we could have enjoyed the patio, too. When I inquired ahead of our stay about a French Press for coffee making, the owner immediately ordered one for our use - that was very accommodating!

We were close to all the restaurants we planned to visit, both near the Plaza, as well as Cerillos road. We also enjoyed having a place to park the car off the street. All the directions were clear and helpful, the house was roomy and very clean. We enjoyed our stay at Casa Sonrisa and would choose it again. Thank you, Taru

Sonrisa Means Smile in Spanish

  • 5 of 5

My adult son and I had a wonderful time in Santa Fe, due in part to the lovely casita. My son learned the short-cut to Whole Foods and would get up early and bring home burritos for breakfast. It was also in the midst of fun shops, restaurants, a short walk to Railyard and close to the Plaza. We look forward to coming back again!

needs refreshing

  • 2 of 5

We were kind of disappointed when we walked into the unit. Does not look as nice as the pictures. The unit could be nice if it was updated and all the soft surfaces were refreshed. TV is very small and we were without internet for almost a day. Called the emergency number and it took 6 hours to get a returned call. Each of the 3 units have parking spaces for 2 cars, we only had one, but 1 night we came back to the unit and there weren't any spaces available. There isn't any street or other parking anywhere around.

Owner's Response: We take pride in providing a clean, comfortable & charming home for our guests, and as our 27 5-star reviews show, most think we hit the mark. We sincerely regret that this guest was dissatisfied -- even one less-than-happy guest is one too many. As part of our commitment to guest comfort, we strive to keep our home fresh and updated, frequently replacing the linens, pillows, towels and other household items. The cozy built-in living room bancos were recently re-upholstered, and we've just added new waffle-weave spa robes. We're fortunate to have local caretaker who is available to assist our guests with any needs that may arise, and she is typically very responsive & helpful. We regret that our guest experienced an issue with the Wi-Fi and parking, however, we're glad those issues were quickly resolved so that they could enjoy these amenities for the remainder of their stay. We know that there's always room for improvement -- we'll keep trying in that regard, and appreciate the feedback.

Lovely home, excellent location

  • 5 of 5

Taru is an excellent host. She provided a detailed tour directory for guests & a nice bottle of wine. The house is lovely, warm and welcoming. It is within walking distances to numerous restaurants and art galleries.

Would highly recommend!

Great Location Great Place

  • 5 of 5

This is a charming home in a great location. You can walk anywhere and it is near eating, entertainment and shopping. Parking a bit tight and next to busy street for walking dog but can overlook and adjust to that. I highly recommend this place and the management is great.
