About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6)

** Casa Sonrisa is a fully-licensed short-term rental property. (City of Santa Fe short-term rental license #11-00049485) **

Welcome to Casa Sonrisa! Walk everywhere from this darling casita in the hip & historic Guadalupe/Railyard neighborhood. Available to rent year-round, for multi-day, weekly, and monthly stays.

In this sweet adobe home, every effort has been made to assure you of a comfortable and memorable stay, starting with a 'welcome' bottle of New Mexico wine. We've decorated our casita with local art and furniture, and hope that it will feel like your own cheerful home in Santa Fe.

2 bedrooms sleep 4 people, with a queen bed in one room and a king bed in the other. Each is made up with a down comforter (non-down/hypo-allergenic comforters available upon request). There is also a sofa in the living room that folds out into a full-size bed, accommodating 1-2 more people. The master bedroom boasts its own kiva fireplace, and both bedrooms share a private outdoor patio. There is a bathroom adjoining the master bedroom, and another large bathroom in the main hallway. Each bedroom has a ceiling fan.

(Please note that the queen bed is somewhat high off the floor for some elderly or very young guests.)

The house is equipped with all the conveniences you might need during your stay: wifi, 2 televisions and DVD players, cable, a stereo, iPod speakers, W/D, D/W, linens/towels, hairdryers, terrycloth spa robes, and extra toiletries.

Traditional in style, the casita features extra high viga (beam) ceilings, 2 kiva fireplaces, brick floors throughout, and Mexican tile in the bathrooms and kitchen. Casa Sonrisa is a one-level home, making it a comfortable option for those who prefer no stairs.

There is off-street parking in front of the house for 1 vehicle.

We are pleased to offer a non-smoking environment.

Pets (1) considered on a case-by-case basis. Please inquire.

About Taru Helne

We're a mother and daughter who own the house together. Our family is originally from the Washington, DC area, and we also lived in Rome, Italy for 4 years. Currently, my mother lives in Virginia, and I live in Washington, DC. We're avid fans of the arts, especially music (our photo is at the Santa Fe opera), and lovers of the outdoors. Santa Fe is a great place for those things and more.

Casa Sonrisa is our family's home when we're in town, but primarily a vacation rental property for most of the year. While we are not local, our gracious caretaker will be available for any questions or concerns you may have during your stay. We look forward to hosting you soon!

Taru Helne purchased this house in 2004

Why Taru Helne chose Santa Fe

The Guadalupe/Railyard neighborhood is thriving, with lots of shops, restaurants, galleries, and a great farmer's market within walking distance. Plus, the Santa Fe's famous plaza is just a short 10-minute walk away. Since we put down roots in this part of town 12 years ago, it continues to evolve and become more interesting every time we visit.

What makes this house unique

We fell in love with our casita because it is sweet and unique. With architectural touches such as viga ceilings throughout, banco seating in the main room, and even a little nicho tucked into the hallway wall, our casita offers a cozy and traditional environment to our guests. Also, the location can't be beat!

Loved the location!!

  • 5 of 5

Lovely Casita that's in a wonderful location. Easy walking to the Plaza, plenty of nearby restaurants and things to do. Although we had a car seldom used it except to venture up the mountain to for some hiking. Ample onsite parking so no need to worry about your vehicle or pay extra to park. Within a block to Radish and Rye where we ended up eating twice during our trip because it was great and convenient. The Casita was clean and well appointed with everything we needed. Definitely consider staying again.

A great home at a fair price...location, location, location!

  • 5 of 5

We were very pleased with Taru's home. Everything went as expected from check in to check out. The house easily and comfortably accomodated two couples and allowed for entertaining as well. The location to the plaza, railyard and Canyon Road area is great. Easy walking to plaza, longer walk to Canyon Rd. Great restaurants within two blocks. We enjoyed eating in with our friends and being able to get out to walk to restaurants. A clean and comfortable home which we will definitely use again on another visit to Santa Fe.

Comfortable and well located

  • 5 of 5

The casita was an excellent home base for exploring Santa Fe. It's a quiet area but still walking distance to the Plaza and Railyard Arts District. It was nicely decorated with southwestern art and furnishings. The bedrooms (1 king bed, 1 queen) and baths were a good size and had everything we needed. The property managers were responsive and accommodating.

Beautiful casita with great location

  • 5 of 5

This house is tastefully decorated with all the amenities and very clean, located on a quite street and yet only 10 minutes walk to the center of old town. We had 2 couples stayed there for 3 nights, fully enjoyed the place and surrounding restaurants. The owner, Taru, is very accommodating and helpful, our final payment for some reason did not go through before we arrive, Taru provided a courteous reminder so we can get it resolved with no problem. Will definitely stay here again next time.

Best location to experience Santa Fe and New Mexico Outdoors!

  • 5 of 5

Casita Sonrisa is located in walking distance to "The Plaza" which is old Santa Fe...shops, galleries and restaurants galore... As well as the Railyard, an up and coming area with galleries and eateries.. Tired of shopping and strolling..you are positioned to experience the great outdoors..Bandolier National Monument, Taos, Kasha-Katewa Tent Rocks National Monument.and so much more. The home is warm and inviting, and an authentic flavor of true Adobe New Mexico style. Taru, the owner, is so accommodating and in touch to be sure all is well. Clean, comfortable, and truly a home away from home... My friend and I were on a girls vacation and couldn't have been happier here.... We went to the Radish & Rye , just across the street and a short stroll away on our last night! Great food, good service..but most of all..we met a wonderful local couple whom we exchanged contact info with....Yes, we plan to return..New Mexico is, indeed, The Land of Enchantment!!!!
