CONNECT & RETREAT at Hyco Hangout!


The Hangout’s unique layout provides the perfect gathering place for multiple friends and families to comfortably share Hyco Lake. The main house offers a large windowed sunroom to enjoy lake views. Start your day sipping a cup of coffee while enjoying the still misty mornings and end with late night drinks and stunning sunsets. The first floor offers a master bedroom with full bathroom. The second floor provides five spacious bedrooms (several with lake views), a large full bathroom, and a connected full bath in bedroom #5.

Our unique setup offers a second “house” across the breezeway, affectionally called the 'hut'. The hut provides an additional 550 square feet of space to gather with a full bathroom on the main level. This space has an exterior entrance and is complete with lake views, a kitchenette, appliances, and a stunning spiral staircase leading to bedroom #6. This bedroom also connects through to the main house via bedroom #5.

There is a 700 sq ft covered outdoor breeze way between these two living spaces, with seating that overlooks the lake. The constant gentle breeze makes it a favorite spot for many.

This spacious home can comfortably accommodate 15 guests on beds. The bedroom/bathroom layout is as follows.

The house also contains a Pack & Play.

Beyond sleeping accommodations, our cove has low boat traffic with a shallow water entry. The lake is perfect for swimming, kayaking, and fishing off the spacious dock. Finally, the Hangout includes all the amenities you would want or need at a lake: 2 kayaks, fishing poles & tackle, water toys, propane grill, indoor board/card games, firepit, free WIFI, and a 50' TV with a Roku Stick and Netflix account included (or use your own streaming accounts).

Finally, if you are venturing off our property, we are only minutes away from the only marina, convenience store, and restaurant (Buoy's Bar & Grill) at Hyco, where you can enjoy classic American food and evening drinks. The restaurant offers outdoor seating with a view of the lake and occasionally features live music (visit Buoys on Hyco Lake's Facebook page). Additionally, we have easy access to the highway, allowing for convenient visits to Danville, VIR, Milton, Semora, Roxboro, Durham, or any other local town.

Hyco Holiday

Our stay was a delight. We live on the ocean but do enjoy lakes. Our four grandsons (7-12) enjoyed the boating and towing and trying to fish. The house was a perfect fit for our size party and well equipped for our cooking needs.

80th Birthday Celebration

We planned a trip to celebrate our dad’s 80th bday. It was so much space inside, but the outside space was even better. We had room to cookout, play corn hole, and relax. The boat already there for rental was so convenient. We all had an amazing time! We would love to come back again!

Modern House on quiet cove with lake view and dock

Overall we loved the property and had a great time. If you are bringing your own boat - you should know that this area of the lake is only accessed by traveling through a canal - after that you'll need to travel under a very low bridge to get to the main part of the lake. The water is 3 foot deep where you need to dock your boat and it requires some complex maneuvering to get in and out which was stressful at first. However, this part of the lake is very quiet and plenty big to wakeboard and tube - we never left it! We brought in all of our food and cooked all of our meals at the house. Beds were comfy, kitchen was well stocked, plenty of bath and lake towels to use. Gorgeous grassy yard with flat area good for games and tying out the dogs. Used the firepit for smores (bring your own wood in).

Hurray for Hyco Hangout!

Hyco Hangout was the perfect place for our family get together. *Everything* was amazing - the location, amenities, layout of the home, beautiful yard, indoor & outdoor seating areas, large family dining table, wifi, and views of the lake. Plus, taking the pontoon out was soooo much fun! We all loved our time there! Plus, Drew is an amazing host. He responded to all our correspondence quickly, thoroughly and pleasantly. We never met him, but felt like we were being taken care of by a friend..Hurray for Hyco Hangout!

Great Getaway

We had a great stay. The property is beautiful and equipped with linens, games and books - we had a wonderful time. The owner was quick to respond and very friendly. The dock is peaceful. We found it to be a nice retreat for a few days after the holiday.

Sparrow Family Vacation

This was a wonderful place for our family vacation. We brought our own boat and was able to tie it up to the dock. We spent most of the days on the dock and enjoyed the lake. Drew was great to work with and quickly responded to questions. Look forward to staying here again.

Perfect Property to Host Family and Friends for a wedding!

This property is beautiful, peaceful and spacious. Our son got married at the Gazebo at Sunset Ridge and we are from out of state. So we needed a place to house the groomsmen which the hut was perfect for and just a place for all our friends and family who stayed in a hotel near by to come visit and share a meal. We loved this house!

Beautiful View and cozy

A very beautiful home, with such an amazing view and plenty of amenities. The house had everything you can ask for. The kids room kept the little ones entertained, and the lounge areas and fire pits were very well used by the adults. Having a large family table where we could all sit around and eat and converse as a family was a huge Christmas gift. Loved it. The owners were also very easy to reach. Definitely recommend it. For those who stay here I would recommend reading the guest book, our entry of 12/26/20 will keep you entertained.

Gathering at a lake has been a favorite tradition for our family for years. The Hangout on Hyco is owned by "the grands," who live in the Midwest, and this home has become a favorite meeting spot for the whole family who live across the country.

The house is mostly managed and enjoyed by our grown children, Drew & Kate Helm, who live in the Triangle and are happy to assist you with your stay!

Our visits consist of morning casts on the dock followed by a breakfast on the porch. We spend most of our time in the water, whether by boat, kayak, swim, or relaxing via raft! Rainy days are for puzzles, books, and games. Naps are optional, but they are frequently taken with a cool cup of iced tea at hand. Our favorite days end with games outside with dinner on the grill, fireflies in jars, and s'mores roasting.

Why they chose this property

The Hangout on Hyco was the first home that caught our eye when first visiting the lake, not even knowing it was for sale. Right off of I-57, as you are heading north from Roxboro and RDU, is this quaint house nestled back into the woods. We loved its unique feature of two detached living spaces that make up one single home. Since hosting is a major value for your family, we knew this property would provide us the perfect opportunity to comfortably welcome multiple families and friends with kids of all different ages!

In an easy to access location, finding and using The Hangout is simple for all who visit. We are thrilled for you to create your special days on the lake! So please, make yourself at home!

What makes this property unique

Beyond its wonderful location and the great layout of the house, we also fell in love with many other unique benefits, such as a two-car carport (breezeway) that we use as a large, lovely outdoor seating space to enjoy the lake view and breeze. The property also offers a flat yard for activities and easy access to the water. With only a few homes sharing our small cove, it is a quiet space with very little boat traffic. We are also only a 5-minute drive from Bouy's, the only restaurant on the lake.
