House needs a complete remodel - we were not satisfied.
My family spent 8 nights in early August 2018 at this Laclede, Idaho property. Overall, we would highly recommend staying in the Sandpoint area and taking day trips to see everything there is to see. We enjoyed our day trips. I would not recommend staying at this property (especially since the price was a lot more than it should have been for a property in this condition) until there are a number of major updates made to the property. Also, the 30 minute round trip to Sandpoint for restaurants got old. Laclede is lacking in this area.
The property did have ample supplies (towels, paper products, trash bags, etc. - a little light on soaps and shampoos, however, so bring your own). The appliances all worked. The clothes washer looked relatively new, but was very loud and made unusual sounds during several cycles. The WiFi was out for about a half a day. We called the property manager about it, but were able to fix the problem ourselves before he called back about 2.5 hours after our call.
There were six of us, two grandparents, two parents, and two twin eight-year-olds. They were very excited about the dock and easy access to the river. Their first venture to the river and jumping off the dock was a lot of fun until the neighbor’s dog started to jump on top of them off the dock, scratching my grandson’s back and pushing him under the water. I would recommend watching for the dog and discouraging him from joining you on the dock. He was not aggressive, just a little scary for the kids to swim with in the river.
The carpeting in the house looked new and the linens for the beds were clean. There were only two pillows per bed, and I would have preferred extra pillows for my sleeping comfort. The bathrooms both need to be completely remodeled. We had bees in the house for our entire stay.
There is no air conditioning which means in the summer you need to open the windows at night to try to cool down the house. That would be okay except that most of the windows are a real chore to open and close or have broken parts. The property is located about 200 yards from a huge working lumber mill which runs at all times of the day and night - not so much fun when you have to have the windows open.
I have stayed in a number of VRBO properties and have never been this disappointed before. I originally wrote a much more detailed review, but was not able to include all of it due to the limit placed on the number of characters for each review.
We want to thank you for providing great detail in your review. No doubt, this information will be helpful for our future guests. There has been a huge commitment over the last few years in upgrading the home, including new carpeting, flooring, appliances, and furniture throughout. The bees appear to be an annual occurrence in the Sandpoint area, but they were a bigger issue than usual last summer. The owners have addressed it, and it's our hope that it won't be an issue again. Thank you.
Great location on the River for a family vacation or gathering!
We had a great stay at this property in Laclede, ID. The house has a great layout for families and a great ambience. The property is well maintained and has everything needed for a great vacation and family gathering. The location is superb and quiet with a dock on the river for swimming, fishing, boating and sun worshipping. The neighbors were very friendly. Thanks to Dani B. and family for sharing their home on the river. We hope to return again soon!
Perfect home with great river access
We stayed here in July 2017 and loved it. The house has recently been updated with new carpet and paint. It was all brand new and the carpet was super soft! The dock is located right behind the house down a wonderful grassy knoll. We were pleasantly surprised that there was a fire pit with camping chairs down by the dock and lots of firewood in the garage. We fired it up and sat and watched the sunset one evening. Bring bug spray though - you'll need it! The house was well stocked with bathroom towels as well as lake towels. The kitchen has all of the major essentials. There are limited cooking ingredients (salt, pepper, oil, spices, etc.) It wasn't a big problem - we just grabbed them at the store. And we left them there so who knows, maybe they are still there! The dishwasher is small but mighty. It holds a lot more than it looks like it will. The furniture is all in great condition and most of it looks brand new. Our son loved sleeping on the top bunk! There is a great table with chairs outside and we BBQ'd one night and ate outside. If you are not familiar with the area, I would suggest arriving during the day. Even with directions, it took us a few turns before we found the "dirt road." It looks more like a driveway - just trust yourself and drive down it - it really is a road that leads to a row of houses! Overall, we were very pleased with the house and were happy to make it our home for the week. Being our first time in the area, we didn't realize it was 15 minutes from the grocery store/restaurants but that wasn't a problem. It was actually nice to be away and secluded from town. Thank you for opening up your home for us. We enjoyed ourselves and can't wait to come back again! One more thing....the owner's changed who they used as a property management company right before we stayed at the house. The owner's were awesome about communicating the change to us and were very responsive to email. Made this nervous traveler feel much more at ease!
