Located in the lower level of a three-story 1919 Late Victorian cottage, with a separate gated entry court yard garden, this charming, spacious one-bedroom suite is 729 SF-almost three times as large as a typical hotel room-and can sleep a family of 4 comfortably--maximum 2 adults, 2 children. It is less than a two minute walk to the Mill Valley Plaza and Depot, Sequoia Theatre/Mill Valley Film Festival and Mill Valley Outdoor Art Club, less than a three minute walk to City Hall, three coffee houses, twenty restaurants and popular Mill Valley Market (Grocery, Produce and Meat Departments, Delicatessen, Wine and Spirits and Ready-to-Eat Foods) and easy walking distance to 142 Throckmorton Theatre [Live entertainment including dramatic and musical theatre, comedy, jazz, classical concerts, cabaret, dance and youth performances], legendary Sweetwater Music Hall, the Mill Valley Fall Arts Festival and Mill Valley Library.

Mill Valley is a picturesque California town of 14,000 residents and creative hideaway situated on the eastern slope of Mount Tamalpais. Nestled among redwoods, hills and canyons, Mill Valley is only ten minutes north of the Golden Gate Bridge and City of San Francisco, yet less than one hour from Sonoma and Napa Wine Country.

What sets Historical Mill Valley apart is not just the spectacular physical beauty of its setting, but equally its human environment-uniquely combining tranquility and liveliness, privacy and community involvement, urban sophistication and village charm. Starting in 1905 with The Dipsea Race, the first cross-country race in the country, Mill Valley has a rich cultural tradition with the Mountain Play in 1913, the Mill Valley Fall Arts Festival in 1957, the Marin Theatre Company, a professional regional theatre in 1966, the Mill Valley Film Festival in 1978 and the 142 Throckmorton Theatre recently revived, although in existence since 1915. Re-opened in February 2012, after a lengthly absence, is the Sweetwater Music Hall located in the remodeled Masonic Hall and located two blocks from the Rental.

Mill Valley is flanked by the picturesque City of Sausalito, 10 minutes south and the Town of Tiburon 10 minutes east with Angel Island State Park only a one mile ride (via Angel Island-Tiburon Ferry), all on San Francisco Bay. Although Mill Valley is close to San Francisco, it is adjacent to the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and only 10 minutes to the Muir Woods National Monument and Tennessee Valley Trail head, 20 minutes to Muir Beach, or Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, 30 minutes to Stinson Beach and less than an hour to Point Reyes National Seashore.

Although one recommends longer stays, Mill Valley is only a 2-1/2 hour day trip to Monterrey and Camel and four hours to spectacular Lake Tahoe or Yosemite National Park; Yosemite Valley should be on your 'bucket list' and, especially during late spring, one of the most beautiful places in the world.

The rental was architecturally designed and completely altered in 2006, including new foundations, drainage, heating, fire protection (sprinklers), thermal and acoustical insulation, electrical, seismic upgrades, kitchen, fireplace meeting all building codes.

The furnished rental is also available for long term month-to-month terms at substantially lower rates, depending on length of occupancy.

The Victorian Cottage was built in 1919 and the rental unit was fully upgraded and upper level substantially upgraded preserving and complementing existing details.

We loved staying on the first floor of this wooden house, a separate apartment really.

Everything worked, the major appliances and the lights. Furniture was comfortable and solid. Kitchen was very functional. Everything--linens, dish ware, rugs, furniture--was clean upon our arrival early in the morning. Location's proximity to downtown Mill Valley is superb, barely five-minutes walk. We ate in great restaurants in Mill Valley (walked to dinner) and Sausalito (quick drive), but never even got to San Francisco--didn't feel any need to. It is hard to imagine a better VRBO. I did talk face-to-face with the landlady, and she was very helpful. Parking is a little tricky, but do-able. Only spoke with her husband by telephone, but he too possesses good verbal skills. Oh, I was able to ride my road bicycle over to Sausalito and get within sight of the Golden Gate Bridge bikepath. From the VRBO, bike was only 8 miles one-way to GGB.

Great little place

What a perfect location for revisiting or exploring lower Marin County. Lovely and cozy place with gas fireplace, kitchen and little patio. Fully stocked kitchen The "welcome" flowers, wine, and coffee were a wonderful touch.:) Here for family gathering Aug 9 - 18. We scooted over to SFO Pier 39 on Sausalito ferry and did a picnic lunch trip to Mt. Tam before we headed to North Coast for reunion. The only difficulty was parking due to proximity to town which isn't necessarily a bad thing. There was ample open parking about a block away Definitely recommend. Jan and Tony

Great location, parking difficult

Perfect for two adults. The house is clean, neat and centrally located. Although, parking is very difficult due to the proximity of downtown Mill Valley. We had to move our car regularly to meet the local parking restrictions. I would have rated this location higher except for the lack of parking and the noise of a late night party at the house above the apartment.

Owner's Response: On the first page of our “Welcome” page, we explain that due to the Rental proximity to downtown, we explain that (1) if you park free in front on the Rental, you have to move your car ONCE a day between 1:00-2:00 PM; (2) Unlimited free parking, with no restrictions, is available approximately one-half block (300 feet) away and (3) off-street parking is available for $10 night. Our daughter was home for college and on a Saturday night and we had a dinner party for friends in our family room and kitchen, which is not over the Rental; all guests left by 10:00 pm.
