I searched several months in advance for an air conditioned home on Lake Leelanau. This home had good reviews, and after an email conversation with the owners, they confirmed they had working AC. After a five hour drive in the middle of July, we arrived to a sweltering home. When I powered up the AC (which was off), it only blew downstairs where there was only one of the four bedrooms. I called the homeowner, who said “it’s an old cottage we put AC in... go sit by the lake.” The upstairs bedrooms were unbearably hot. We had booked this months in advance, during peak season and were unfortunately stuck there for the week. I called the homeowners again several times, left voicemails/texted; no answer/no reply. After confirming this home had working AC, I felt deceived, as the upstairs bedrooms were 77 degrees at night. While we understand the owners hands might be tied when it comes to the ability for the AC to cool down both floors, transparency about this fact would have allowed us to rent a different home.
