Overview

About the property

3 bedrooms (+convertible bed), 3.5 baths, courtyard pool & lounge, walkscore 95

Casa Abuelita lies in the heart of old La Paz, one block from both the Malecón (the boardwalk that lines the bay) and the cathedral and the central plaza. La Paz’s finest restaurants are within a block or two of the house. Within a short walk there are two traditional mercados (markets) where you can buy fresh fish, meats and produce.

A traditional La Paz home over a hundred years old, Casa Abuelita has recently been given an exquisite renovation that keeps the craftsmanship of an old home while bringing you 21st century amenities and comforts.

The original doors still stand under the wooden beams and corrugated roof (fitted with modern thermal insulation). The street side rooms that once served as space for typing classes given by Señora Julieta have been remodeled and are now finely designed bathrooms that buffer the street noise. In the central courtyard (with lounge & pool) you will find an unexpected serenity, especially in the garden where an old well still reaches down into the La Paz aquifer.

Casa Abuelita is equipped with WiFi, the kitchen is fully stocked with wares, and you'll find fresh towels & n the bathrooms.

About Yolanda Espinoza

My name is Monica. I grew up in Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, and have lived La Paz for the last six years. During that time, I've grown roots into the community through educational programs and efforts to advance environmental conscience in the form of organic gardens, recycling, and sustainable water-management practices.

Yolanda Espinoza purchased this house in 2006

Why Yolanda Espinoza chose La Paz

Location! Casa Abuelita is in the absolute center of downtown, and only a short walk from the beach. Walk around the corner and you'll find a local café; choose another direction and you'll find three restaurants; the central plaza (one block away) is surrounded by small bars & shops.

El Cirio offers great service with many amenities. The owner lives nearby and can attend to any issues personally or through trusted staff members.

We have GREAT NEWS! Because we care about our Customers, also offer upon your arrival a welcome basket, ideal option for an exhausted traveler to enjoy from the comfort of Casa Abuelita for 80 USD.

Our basket provides all the essentials for a delicious meal and snack after a relaxing day at the beach: sip our freshly-squeezed lemonade and prepare a tasty sandwich with salad and guacamole from seasonal fruits and vegetables, top-quality goat cheese, smoked salami, artisanal bread, olives, dried fruits, and other treats.

In the mornings, you can look forward to having a nutritious breakfast of savory homemade empanadas and fresh eggs, along with regional sweets, pastries, milk and granola to accompany your morning cup of coffee or tea.

Please check the pictures in our gallery.

Magical Place

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Casa Abuelita for the Dia de Los Muertos holiday and we had a fantastic time. This is a special house, really comfortable beds, super clean, everything we needed for our stay. This house is in a great, central location - really close to Tres Virgines, McFisher, coffee places, even a Mezcaleria across the street (which was super fun with great hosts). Ana and Yolanda were great. Ana gave us a superb overview of La Paz, told us great beaches to go to and even brought us the special bread for the celebration. Loved this house. So well designed and perfect detail throughout. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Wonderful place

  • 4 of 5

This was a great place. The location was perfect, within easy walking distance of the stroll along the coast. Lots of restaurants were nearby. The house itself was well maintained and was decorated with the obvious influence of an artist or decorator. The backyard was perfect and the small pool got a workout.

On the negative side. Each bath had one bar of soap the size of a silver dollar, no shampoo or conditioner. The stove didn't seem to work at all. The starter on the grill didn't work so we needed to go out to buy matches. No big deals in total but a few items which could make the stay perfect

This is a beautiful place that luxuriously accommodates 6 (two per bedroom) in the center of La Paz

  • 5 of 5

Clean, neat, and well-appointed. We were there for just two night, but with a good kitchen , nearby food shopping and laundry, longer stays would be quite nice. It's also relatively quiet, even though it's in central La Paz. It was still cool at night in March so we did not sue the soaking pool in the back yard, but can see this would be a big bonus when it gets hotter, especially after boating and swimming in the bay or out to Espiritu Santo. Also, the local manager was flexible in terms of check-in and check-out, and stayed in good contact. One block from the Malecon (seaside promenade) and a few blocks from everything including excellent restaurants. Two (small) car spaces on the street. Just a great place.
