About this property

The Guide's House - Secluded Lodge

About this space
Our Guide's House at Adirondack Rock and River is available for groups to rent (max 12). We are located at the end of a country road surrounded by miles of wilderness. Our property has 2 rental lodges and our house, with no one else nearby. We have fields, trails, a rock climbing cliff, a stream, leantos, fire pits etc, all on or near our property. Very secluded, yet near the village of Keene, where there are restaurants and stores. Discounts for smaller families (ask at initial inquiry). Sorry, no partiers, smokers or pets!

The space
The Guide's House and Climber's Lodge are the 2 buildings we rent out to groups on our secluded property. The Guide's House is slightly larger with a large kitchen, dining/hang-out room, TV room, Game room and 6 bedrooms. The JackRabbit Trail (25 miles long) leaves from our parking lot - great skiing and hiking!

Guest access
Guests have the whole building, surrounding fields, decks, grills and firepit. We live across the dirt road whenever questions arise.

Other things to note
We are designed for outdoor oriented people yet our lodges are very comfortable. No partiers, smokers or pets!

Perfection
A crew of about a dozen of us stayed at the Guide's House for a long weekend for my son's wedding. Everything was perfect. Clean, comfortable, spacious... Ed was an excellent host with great suggestions. We so loved the isolation of the place. Our only neighbors were the wildlife. Turkeys and deer aplenty! Would most definitely love to stay again.

One of the best places i've ever stayed
I travel all over the US/CAN for work and this location was one of the best i've ever been. Beautiful setting in the mountains, the place has plenty of room, beautiful dinning area, downstairs has games and TV set up, ample bathrooms and shower for large groups and nice kitchen space. It has all the amenities you need but the feel of a rustic, adirondak camp. Really special place.

About the host

Hosted by Ed Palen

Host profile image
We are a family of 4 (son and daughter) with both children now in college. We love the outdoors and the Adirondacks in particular. We've lived here for over 30 years and still marvel at the beauty of this area. We have 2 friendly black labs and continue to hike, climb, ski and paddle whenever possible!

Why they chose this property

Our property is truly surrounded by woods and fields, mountains and streams. We are at the end of the road with a hiking/skiing trail leaving our property that continues into the wilderness, through a mountain pass for many miles. Guests can hike, ski or climb without ever getting into their car!

What makes this property unique

Our place isn't for everyone - just those that love the outdoors and need to get away for a while. Of course the village of Keene is only a 5 minute drive and Lake Placid is only 20 minutes away for dinners and perhaps a movie...
