Getting Around:
Guests will need to make sure they have their own vehicle. Summer months are fine with a small car but four wheel drive is a must in the winter!
Other Things to Note:
What to bring with you!- You're coming to a wilderness area to vacation and if you plan your vacation well you will have a positive experience. In the summertime May and through the middle of June can tend to be cooler early morning and toward the evening hours. Make sure to bring a jacket and long pants you can change into when needed. Bring a pair of tie up shoes to protect your feet. Shoes likes flip flops or sandals will not protect your feet when you are out exploring. Layering your clothing is a good idea and then if your too warm you can take off clothing as needed. At least this way when departing your cabin early morning to go site seeing you will have what you need with you. July and August are pretty warm and you should still bring a light jacket. The rest of the year you will want to bring heavier jackets and long underwear, snow suits etc. You will need to bring your private toiletries like bar soap and shampoo as we do not provide this for you. Cabins are equipped with everything else you should need except food of course. Snow tires and four-wheel-drive are recommended for traveling in Eastern Idaho during the winter. Road conditions can change quickly, and even well-traveled highways are occasionally closed by blizzards or high winds. Before setting out, check the Transportation Department's website or call 511 for an automated, up-to-the-minute status of all thoroughfares. Wise motorists will also carry emergency gear (shovel, snack bars, water, blankets) in their vehicles to be ready for any contingency. Coming Snowmobiling? A reminder to anyone traveling back country areas whether skiing, snowmobiling or hiking: Remember the time of year, exercising all back country cautions. Take necessary equipment and survival gear when venturing into the back country. If you have a GPS and cell phone, be sure to take them with you, but do not rely on them entirely for a safe rescue if you find yourself in trouble or stranded. Cell phones should be kept close to your body & turned off to keep the battery full, so it's not searching for a signal & running the battery down. Avalanche Transceivers and equipment, knowing what the avalanche conditions are, and knowing skills to save lives are a must for everyone entering back country riding or traveling. Plan ahead. Make sure you know the area you are going into before heading into it. If you find yourself in trouble, stop, take a look around you, and do not go any further. The further you go the more complicated and dangerous it is to get yourself to safety, also making rescue efforts more difficult and dangerous. Make mental notes in relation to any physical features or landmarks that would assist in your rescue. Make a plan, stick to your plan, narrow the riding area, & most of all...let someone know WHERE you are planning to go!

This was such a great location and the space was what we needed after being stuck in the car for a 9 hour drive.
Check in process was super easy and if we had questions they got back to us pretty quickly.

The place was easy to access with our GPS and their directions. Pros the place was very clean, and we had plenty space for the family. The kitchen had all that we needed to cook with. The views are beautiful. Plenty of towels, toilet paper and soaps for us to use.ConsThe refrigerator wasn't super cold. The hot tub has a very strong smell of chemicals.

A wonderful place to gather.
The home was wonderful. There was plenty of seating at the 2 kitchen tables and in the gathering areas on the main floor and in the basement. The mounted saddle in the family room was a hit with the younger kids. The TVs on two levels were so convenient. The games upstairs were also popular with all. The hot tub needed some attention though. Everyone was comfortable - it was a successful family experience. Very nice accommodation.

Thank you for your kind comments. We're very glad you enjoyed your stay and hope we can host your vacation again in the future! Island Park Reservations
Great home. The road in is bumpy but I was in a mini van and it was no problem. My stay was in August. Winter vacations could necessitate 4 wheel drive. The upstairs was a bit warm, but not unbearable. There are plenty of box fans and also individual heaters were noted in bedroom closets although there is central heat. I brought a lot things I ended up not needing as the home was well stocked with necessities especially towels. I didn’t need to contact property manager so I gave 5 stars. The parking area has a lot of grit (typical for the area). I would suggest taking something to wipe your feet on before getting in your vehicles (like one of those shoe cleaner with bristles) Or a hand held vacuum.

Such a great experience
My first time to Island Park/Yellowstone and staying at the Lost River Retreat was a perfect fit. This was a trip/family reunion, 8 adults and 7 children. Never did we feel like there wasn’t plenty of room. Kitchen space is great, beds are really nice and comfortable, common spaces are really big, the wrap around porch/grandchildren race track is large and has a great view from any point, bathrooms are large. The whole cabin is well equipped from kitchen needs, extra bedding, very nice towel’s, washer and dryer, hair dryer, TV’s , DVD/VHS & cable, foosball & hockey games, & outdoor grill. Garage is spacious and has two picnic tables for deck dinning. There is a fire pit and hot tub but we just didn’t get time to use them .. but I will say the hot tub looked well maintained and very nice. Our family loved the time we spent here .. the view of the stars is amazing. Would recommend this property to anyone planning to stay in the area. Management and owners are great to work with … this was an overall really nice experience. Having to take your garbage to the dump each day was no big deal, easy, and the staff there even were pleasant. The only thing I would have liked to see/have had was dressers in each room. But not having them, living out of suitcases was not terrible, closets are huge.
I can say without hesitation the thing I disliked most is that we couldn’t stay longer!

We stayed with our extended family and the amount of space was great. The loft was pretty hot in the midst of the warmest part of the year. I can image this would be a great spot for a winter retreat.

Over all very satisfied. Little could have been better but not enough to be a deal breaker. IE the lock box for the key was old and didn’t work easily. We eventually learned its idiosyncrasies but it took us quite a while the fist couple of times. Would be nice just to replace it
I think the unit looked better in person than in photos. It was very spacious and very clean. The kitchen had what we needed. The wrap around balcony views were great. The distances from west yellowstone is a bit of a drive, but manageable during our 3 night stay. I'd stay again.
Our family vacation that included 7 adults at Lost River Retreat was AMAZING. The proximity to so many outdoor adventures was a welcome change to crowded hotels, campsites or RV parks. The bedroom were all situated nicely to allow us to have our personal space. The Kitchen was equipped with everything we needed to cook practically every night. The hot tub was used every night for a nice relaxing end to the day and the sunsets and sunrises were stunning. Well done on this cabin and location!
Loved our stay. Loved how the neighborhood wasn't on top of each other. Such Beautiful views of the Mountains and pastures with a great big wrap around porch! kitchen was stocked with all the essentials. Comfortable beds and a relaxing hot tub to soak in! 45 min drive to Yellowstone. Just wished the wrap around porch had chairs/porch swings to hang out and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
We only had four in our group so several beds were never slept in, but the ones we did use were very comfortable. The kitchen was adequately stocked and the place was in very good order. The location was initially a concern being a little further from West Yellowstone, but the drive in is beautiful and you really don’t even notice a few extra minutes at the start and finish of the day. We want to come back here for sure, saw a big black bear last night just a few miles away!
We went to Island Park/Yellowstone to social distance and enjoy family. This cabin was perfect for us and we loved the location. The cabin was stocked well and was comfortable for us. We loved the hot tub! The area was quiet and great for walking and relaxing.
