Perfect for a weekend get away!
This was perfect for a ladies’ getaway: the layout is great, spacious, well maintained, and well stocked. Plenty of space to hang out, relax, and bake (we baked a lot! The kitchen is well stocked with all the necessary tools). Our group is already discussing when we can come back!

Quiet getaway at the lake.
It was plenty of room for my family of 10. The kids loved it had a backyard and a dock for them to catch some fish. Overall stay was great we will try it in the summertime and bring the boat to enjoy the lake next year.

Fun Family Weekend
My family and I booked tickets for the Polar Express at the NC Transportation Museum and decided to make a weekend out of it. This property on the lake was just 20-25 minutes away and was absolutely perfect. The lake view was amazing and we had plenty of room for our crew of 10. We were close to food and grocery stores. We were also able to DoorDash food with ease. The house was clean and seems to be a fairly new build. My family would highly recommend!

Small town lake house
The lake is beautiful and quiet! We stayed as a surprise for our youngest birthday to the NC transportation museum. This was a great spot to stay… we checked out the surrounding small towns and really enjoyed a few nice slow quiet days. Everyone loved the house lots of room for everyone to stretch out and still cozy like home.

Fabulous house!!
My experience was great from the very beginning. The owner Lockie is very responsive and answered all of my questions very promptly. There's plenty of parking space to accommodate multiple vehicles and a boat ramp right on the property, very convenient. The house was very obviously designed as a rental with much thought put into the design to comfortably accommodate ten people. It was very neat and clean and nicely decorated. The upstairs bedrooms share large Jack and Jill bathrooms with plenty of space for all. The master suite is very spacious and comfortable. The kitchen is amazing with tons of cabinet space as well as a very large bar countertop complete with comfy chairs. Lockie must be a cook and entertainer because the kitchen had every single item you will need, plus some. The main level deck was great as well as the dock area. There is a fire ring in the yard and we spent several evenings gathered around it. The only negatives I would mention is the dining table is kind of small and does not expand, but there is a large table on the deck that would be another option. Also, the lake was quite murky and there was quite a lot of debris as well as shallow areas not well marked, so you have to be very careful if you have the use of a boat. The lake was not very busy, which made it quite pleasant to float around. All in all I would highly recommend this property.

Excellent!
The house was extremely clean, comfortable, and large enough for 9 of us to have plenty of space. The common area was open and full of light, and most of the rooms had expansive views of the peaceful lake. The kitchen was well-appointed, with plenty of dishes and glassware for a large group. We spent a lot of time relaxing outside on the porches, noting the quiet neighborhood (and the lack of mosquitos!). We all had a wonderful time!

Relaxing in Style on High Rock Lake
Our multi-generational crew shared a wonderful week at Lockie and Zach's lake house. We found the layout of the home to accommodate our group of 9 adults nicely. Community areas were spacious, pleasantly decorated, and comfortable. The kitchen easily accommodated many of us at once. With two upstairs bedrooms on each side of the home connected by a generous shared bathroom for each pair of bedrooms, our various family groups had privacy appreciated by all. Staying on the lake was fun and relaxing! Similarly to the home being well-equipped inside, there were also lots of toys for use outdoors and on the lake (corn hole, kayaks, paddleboards, floats) ensuring everyone had fun on the water. We especially appreciated the lake views from the deck and the impressive fishing birds visiting the lake/shore daily including heron, egrets, and bald eagles. The Hunters were helpful and responsive hosts - thank you both. This is a beautiful home and a super relaxing venue!

Perfect House for our Family Reunion But Toys Need TLC
The kitchen has nice appliances and is stocked with everything you need to cook including salt, pepper and olive oil. The common areas make it easy to hang out with a large group. There is a big TV and a pool table! We had 10 people for a family reunion and that made our stay a little challenging. No deal breakers, but... The dining room table only seats 6 people comfortably. Luckily, the stools at the kitchen bar were able to handle the overflow. The lower level outside deck has a table large enough to seat 10, but the deck is too narrow to accommodate people seated on both sides of the table without if feeling cramped. The pier and floating dock made it easy to access the lake. Our teenagers spent hours playing in the water. The house comes with lots of inflatables and toys stored haphazardly under the deck. One of the main reasons we chose this house over others is because it advertises 2 paddle boards and 2 kayaks. We were disappointed with these. All 4 of these water toys are in need of some TLC. One of the kayaks is completely missing a seat-back. The seat of the second kayak was in tatters, making it totally useless. Both of the paddle boards were deflated with no clear way to pump them up. The host was apologetic and told us where to find the pump. Eventually we got one of the paddle boards up and running. Overall a nice stay, but for the price we were expecting more of a turnkey experience. Some attention to detail and TLC could make this place perfect.

The home was absolutely beautiful, clean and spacious. It had plenty of room for our family to hang out together. We had a lot of fun on the kayaks and paddle boards. The decks were great for reading a book or having a glass of wine overlooking the lake. The cove the house is on was very nice. We had to be careful in the rest of the lake. There were a lot of logs floating, some trees sticking out of the water but overall we had a lot of fun.

Amazing, Relaxing Stay!
Our family and friends had an amazing time for the week we were here! The house was perfect and had everything we needed and wanted for a get-away. This was our family’s first vacation of just us, but with a bunch of friends that came along. This house perfectly accommodated everyone from ages 12-50. Plenty of indoor and outdoor games, a fully stocked kitchen with condiments and spices, and rooms with towels and sheets. Lockie made sure we were comfortable all week, she was very helpful and quick when we reached out. Thank you for everything! We can’t wait to come back!

Awesome weekend at the lake!
This past weekend truly is a memory our family will forever treasure and we thank you so much! The house was beautiful and exceptionally clean. The kitchen was the most well stocked that I've ever seen; and we did a lot of cooking. We did not have to walk far to get to the dock, and the kids loved swimming and fishing in the lake. Wonderful home, perfect location
We stayed with our family, which included our adult children and grandchildren, to be close to the wedding venue for our son's wedding. The house could not have been more perfect! It was a quick 10-minute drive to the venue, which was especially nice with 2 kids under age 4. It also has the best stocked kitchen I've ever had at a rental! We were hosting a mostly DIY rehearsal dinner so this was especially helpful. The layout of the rooms allowed for enough privacy across families and the downstairs master gave my husband and I a bit of separation from the rest. Everything was spotless and they provided everything we needed. We even had ample parking to accommodate 4 cars. The house sits on the lake in a truly peaceful, lovely spot. There are neighbors, but it was quiet. Lockie and Zachary answered all questions promptly and even allowed us to extend our stay last minute (the day of the wedding!) when we decided we just wanted a day to relax afterward. Spending Sunday enjoying the back porch and dock was truly a highlight of the weekend! The only downside to our stay was that we couldn't enjoy the provided kayaks and paddle boards because it was too windy. I highly recommend this house to families or a couples group, and we would definitely come back without any hesitation!

Perfect!
The house was absolutely perfect in every way. Our family was in town for a wedding, and with a range of ages from 13-84, we ALL found Lockie and Zachary's property to be comfortable, beautifully decorated, and more than we expected. I had quite a bit of cooking to do, but the well stocked kitchen made it a breeze. No need to bring your own board games (I did) - they had them all there. The quilts were soft and so pretty, the beds were comfy, and the lake view couldn't be beat. Of all of the houses other family rented for the weekend, we had the best. Thank you for sharing your home and making the trip such a pleasure!

A perfect stay with the family
We really enjoyed our stay during my son's wedding in Salisbury. My husband and I had my 85 year old mother and sister and her grown children and their children. The home was designed perfectly for us with the 5 bedrooms and 3 1/2 baths. The home was beautifully decorated, the kitchen well stocked and a very nice dock that we fished from. It was very clean and had everything we could have wished for. I wish we had time to stay a little longer after the wedding. We were all very comfortable and really enjoyed our stay. We are very grateful to Zachary and Lockie hosting us and sharing their home with us. I highly recommend this home to anyone looking for a nice place to stay at High Rock Lake.

About the host

Hosted by LOCKIE MARIE HUNTER

Host profile image
I am a southern gal, raised in the mountains of Tennessee. My husband is from Maine, but our family of four now lives in Asheville, North Carolina, tucked in the hills. I am a retired professor of writing and literature at a local college, while my husband is a software guy. Our two teen children love the lake life! They enjoy the stand-up paddles and kayak and boating and tubing so much. My daughter often goes for an early morning paddle to enjoy the serenity of the lake, while my son is more active and enjoys tubing behind the boat.

We love to cook, so we purchased the items that we know we would need in a true chef’s kitchen. Springform pans, zesters, all of the elements that make cooking fun! We also invested in some outdoor dining, because with that gorgeous space, what an opportunity to eat outside. With the lake just steps away, eating outside is a priority! There is something magical about dining alfresco, watching the herons and cranes explore the lake from the deck. We have a bit of a “pet“ crane who comes by on a regular basis. We named him Niles. ;)

We have had large extended family gatherings here, and we have had our personal BookClub here and Lockie’s writing retreats. We enjoy both a house full of teenagers with laughter and running in and out and grabbing beach towels and paddleboards AND a sophisticated girls retreat with farmers market in the morning, vineyards in the afternoon and lots of card playing and stories. We have made so many memories here already.

We are a close-knit family, and both of our moms are in their 80's, so we needed a place with the primary bedroom and en-suite bath on the main floor. My mother cannot navigate steps well, so it is perfect for her to be able to walk right in and sleep in the primary bedroom. The lot is also gently sloping, so from the front of the house she can simply walk down the side of the house and onto the dock and the boat without navigating any stairs.

Why they chose this property

Our daughter was just accepted into UNC Chapel Hill (go heels!) and the Lakehouse is only about 1.5 hours away, so we can go bug her. 😊We love lake living! My husband loves to boat, and I am a water baby, swimming and kayaking and canoeing…anything on the water. We looked at lake homes for years, and we looked at many different lakes, from Georgia to Tennessee. High Rock feels so special! It is the perfect blend of fun and relaxation. The “pace” of the lake it just perfect. The lake is large (the second largest in North Carolina) so there are many places to boat to. You can boat to Goat Island and join the party or boat into a quiet cove and swim and float. You can jet-ski the main channel or take a quiet paddleboard trip into a quiet harbor and search for herons and other wildlife. We also craved luxury. This home is so new! It was built by a builder only 5 years ago to be his personal lake home, so he did not skimp on all the details that make the place feels luxurious. Some of the other lakes we viewed felt overdeveloped and a bit commercial. High Rock strikes that perfect balance of having enough to do, while also not feeling overcrowded. While you will see exciting activity on the weekend, (JetSkis and pontoon boats and motor boats and fishing boats) which lends the weekend an exciting pace, during the week, you will find lovely peaceful lake moments, watching the birds and the occasional boat or fisherman go by. Uptown Lexington and nearby downtown Salisbury are so charming! The shops are unique, and the shopkeepers are friendly, while the farmers market, vineyards and breweries provide a wonderful afternoon. Even storms are magical at the lake. Sitting on the front porch, watching the clouds roll in and then watching the lightning over the lake, truly magical! We love the open floor plan as the chef is not stuck in the kitchen. We added six generous size barstools and with the dining table seating 8, we have plenty of seating!

What makes this property unique

My husband also works often while we’re at the lake. There is an office space right next to the kitchen. He just pulls up a chair and plugs in his computer. The Wi-Fi speed is excellent, and he has been able to take conference calls around the world with ease. On sunny days, he will sit outside and take a conference call while looking at the lake. All of his coworkers are jealous when they see the background. One coworker asked if it was a fake photo backdrop! The primary bedroom and en-suite bath are on the main floor. The lot is also gently sloping, so from the front of the house guests can simply wall down the side of the house and onto the dock without navigating any stairs. This will be wonderful for a big extended family vacation, if not all the members can navigate a flight of steps. We have hosted girl retreats here with my friends, and the bedroom/bathroom layout is perfect! We truly sleep 10 incredibly comfortably. The Jack-and-Jill bathrooms upstairs are not only gorgeous with granite and custom cabinetry but they are generously sized with two vanities and tons of drawers and cabinet space. Our house is very well equipped, perfect for a longer stay! The kitchen is a working kitchen with stainless steel appliances, a large granite counter-top, and plenty of pots and pans and cookware and bakeware etc. Looking for a spring- form pan? We have it! lemon zester? yep. Keurig coffee maker... It's all there! We are tucked into a little piece of paradise in our sweet portion of the lake, but we also have access to the main channel! This gives you access to the boat- up restaurants. One of them is tons of fun and has a party atmosphere with live music on the weekends and the second (Waters Edge Restaurant ) is a bit more subdued, but still has wonderful events throughout the week, from karaoke to wine and paint to live music. We love to boat to one of them, tie-up at the restaurant, have a wonderful meal and then boat back as the sun sets over the lake!
