Wonderful stay in the desert
Great property out in the desert conveniently located not far from Joshua Tree and Yucca Valley. Great base to explore JTNP and surrounding area. House is clean, comfortable, and well-equipped with all you need. Stargazing from the hot tub during the evening is a must! Lots of wildlife nearby is an added bonus. Highly recommended!

Fantastic stay - 10/10 recommend!
We absolutely loved this desert getaway. The dirt road drive-up is a bit daunting, but once you get there, you'll be grateful for how remote it feels. Just you, the house and the silent desert! Plus loads of amenities -- we sat in the hot tub every night, made s'mores by the outdoor fire, cozied up to the indoor fire. We cooked in the beautiful kitchen and were surprised by how well stocked it was! We had our choice of cooking utensils, spices and pans. And we loved eating outside at the big backyard table. The beds/linens are super luxe and comfortable, too. Every detail is immaculately designed and well taken care of, you can tell. Seriously one of the best rental houses we’ve seen. We only wish we could've stayed longer! Thanks to Lara for an excellent stay.

Hello, I'm Lara. I'm an architect originally from London but have lived in Los Angeles, California for many years and also own The Ocotillo, a vacation house and art gallery located in Joshua Tree. My favorite thing to do is to escape to the desert to retreat and immerse myself in nature away from the hustle and bustle of city life. I have traveled the world many times over and can honestly say that Joshua Tree National Park and surrounding area is one of the most magical places on the planet. I absolutely love spending time there and I'm sure you will too!

Why they chose this property

I consider The Ocotillo to be my cherished desert home and have put a lot of love into it during the time that I have owned it. It has been a labor of love and is filled with objects and furniture that I have curated over the years. I'm so happy to be able to share it with you and hope that you will get as much joy out of it as I do, using it as a base to explore all that the California high desert has to offer. Enjoy!

What makes this property unique

The Ocotillo is an open plan, spacious house providing a unique Airbnb experience, giving you the opportunity to stay at the private residence and art gallery of a notable Los Angeles architect and interior designer. The personal contents of the house have been collected and curated over many years and the space continues to be used as a place of inspiration for those that vacation there as well as the artists who take part in the annual residency program. In the adjacent building you will find the art gallery which guests will have private access to during their stay. The current show September 23 - January 24 is DESERT HIGH - Artworks by the 2023 Artist in Residence, Anthony Castro @castroesque. The house and gallery sits on a 2.5 acre perimeter fenced property filled with Joshua Trees, Mesquite and Palo Verde trees and is surrounded on three sides by vast open areas of government land. Nature is abundant with a variety of birds and animals that live on and around the property including, chipmunks, jackrabbits, owls, road runners and woodpeckers. Centrally located for access to all the high desert attractions including Joshua Tree National Park, Pappy and Harriets, Pioneer Town, La Copine and The Integratron. All communication will be directly with Lara Hoad the owner and designer of The Ocotillo house and gallery to ensure personal service. No remote management companies or third party hosts.
