About Charlie

I grew up in North West Houston around 15 years ago and moved to the Kemah/Clearlake area never looking back. People seem to be more laid back and friendly in this area. The Kemah/Clearlake area is the 3 largest boating capita in the United States so if you enjoy power boating or sail boating this is a nice place to live. This area is also very popular with antique car collectors, motorcycle enthusiast and live entertainment at restaurants and bars. The list goes on and on of thing to see and do in this area.

Charlie purchased this cottage in 2006

Why Charlie chose Bacliff

I purchased this home from an architect. It is my understanding this home had a small fire and the architect spent sereral years restoring the home. This guy had great attention to detail and is an antique lover. Every where you look you will see interesting antique fixtures, with solid hardwood floors that came out of estate homes and ceiling beams though out the home. I fell in love with the home because it is so unique. Actually I purchased the home for myself and have lived in it the last 4 years. This is why the home is nicely furnished, well equipped and feels like home.

What makes this cottage unique

This property is very comfortable, charming, romantic, and cozy, and private from the street. If you have pets this is the vacation rental you want to book your pet will love the front and back covered patio and the cute backyard fully fenced. Guess What! 'No Pet Charge' this is a huge savings.

The things to do and places to go are endless all within 15-20 mins from the cottage. If you book I know you will enjoy your stay.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Sharlene,

We both enjoyed your beautiful home with all the necessities of a home away from home. We had a relaxing time because the house is so cozy and homey. My husband said he would post comments on Yelp to let people know about the rental.

KEMAH COTTAGE - SUPERIOR EXPERIENCE

  • 5 of 5

First let me say we have never rented a house before so we had some reservations, however, after speaking to Sharlene I felt comfortable and knew everything would be great. Also, I do not do “reviews” but wanted everyone to know what a great place this is.

We arrived the afternoon of May 27th. Our initial impression coming into the driveway was how peaceful and private the yard was. It was separated from the street by loads of shrubs and trees and the covered front porch is huge and well furnished. The front yard is decorated with handmade stepping stones and it a wonderful place just to relax, have coffee and watch the little bit of traffic go by.

Then we opened the front door. My jaw dropped and I said “WOW”. The place is beautiful and much more than reflected in the photos and descriptions. It is beautifully furnished with loads of character and imagination. Antiques and high end furnishings abound. There is a complete living room, dining room, kitchen and service porch with a washer and dryer.

The kitchen is very adequate and fully stocked with utensils and all the things you need to make a nice meal. Put in a bag of groceries and you are ready to go. The appliances are an electric stove, French door refrigerator, and dishwasher. Is it well stocked with all the dishes, cups, glasses, silverware, etc. that you could possibly need.

The two bedrooms are located one in the front by the living room and one off the back off the kitchen. The front room has the biggest bed I have ever seen and it is comfortable and definitely a high end mattress. The furniture is all antiques and it is decorated perfectly. The attached bath has a tub and a separate shower and the room is huge. Again it has all of the things you need for a stay including linens for the bath and the bed.

The back bedroom (where I stayed) had a regular king size bed that was very comfortable. Again all high end linens and it too had antiques and was a huge room. It had an attached bath with a shower only and it was great. The back bed room also had French doors on to the back covered porch. The porch overlooked a nicely landscaped and totally fenced backyard. The porch was furnished with a table and chairs and a bar-b-q grill. Outside, both front and back, were like private gardens.

Overall the Kemah Cottage was comfortable, quiet, well-furnished and just a nice slice of heaven. We had no issues at all and are just waiting to go back again. It also has Wi-Fi and Cable

Quirky fun cute cottage!

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay here! Yes I would return again. Lower income area. Fenced in and secure. For the price it is absolutely wonderful. I suggest rearranging the bricks into the porch entrance to make it more stable for less abled folk.

Owner's Response: Quirky fun and cute! Yes, I guess it describes it. The cottage is somewhat eclectic and I am so glad they enjoyed their stay. The area is very diversified in income static but you would be surprised what the property is worth the closer you get to the bay and the cottage is only about 10 blocks.

Nice place

  • 4 of 5

House was very cute and quaint. Would have loved to be closer to the water with beach access and people across the street got a little noise at night but overall good stay.

Very nice getaway place

  • 4 of 5

Convenient to all attractions and sights. from Kemah Boardwalk to Galveston Island. Back porch was a favorite spot of my wife and I in the morning drinking coffee. It always seem to have small breeze. Beds were comfy and adequate.

Just "ok" - needs work for the price

  • 2 of 5

The house is cute & cozy but not worth the price we paid. The a/c in the main part of the home didn't work, the water in the showers didn't get hot, the cable didn't work, & the neighborhood is a little sketchy. We called the owner about the a/c & cable, she came out the next day, but neither got fixed. We had no a/c for 2 nights & still paid full price. The bed was comfy & the yard was great for the dogs but that's about it.

Owner's Response: Sorry this lady was so unhappy. I live in Florida and had just evacuated from Hurricane Irma and prior to that I had evacuated from Hurricane Harvey, also my mother just lost her home in Harvey with 5 ft of water so I had a lot going on and just got into town. The ac is a 500.00 new unit and the drain hose had a chink in it and was not draining water properly All I had to do was empty it and replace the hose which I offered to, but was told not to worry about it. Her husband asked everyone in their party if they were comfortable and they all said they were OK There are 2 other units in the home and the check in date was Sept 8-10, 2 days. Her son was getting married and I guess they did not want me to deal with it. As far as the cable I had to call out the cable company and could not get an appointment during there stay I sure a lot of people had cable issues due to Harvey. This lady did have a large party of 6 along with 4 dogs was not charged for her pets. I do my best to address all issues that is why I have so many good reviews. I find it hard to believe that this lady thinks that 135.00 is paying to much the amount of guest and pets that were accommodated.

Overall a good place to stay

  • 4 of 5

This cute little cottage was nice and fully stocked with pretty much everything we needed. We had 6 adults, which it was suppose to accommodate, with 2 king beds and a Queen sleeper sofa. When we pulled the sleeper sofa out, it was broken. The owner came when we called and tried to fix it, but when it couldn't be fixed she provided a queen blow up mattress which would have been ok but would not stay inflated. Due to our cell service, we were not able to reach her again during our stay. But after arriving back home, we got in contact with her and she refunded some of our payment to help with our inconvenience. We would recommend this little cottage to other families and will be contacting this owner again if we are staying in the area.
