Quinta Soñada (rough translation: 'Dreamy little Farm') situated on a gorgeous beach steps from the house. We are on a point of land with miles of beaches either side of us. Your upstairs bedroom is only 50 yards from the ocean, on the Golfo Dulce in the spectacular Osa Peninsula. Wonderful meals are available as are kayaks and surfboards. The house rental includes a 2 story house and private cabin next to the house with private bathroom. Our house is a comfortable beach house with an open plan to let the breezes cool the house. We offer high quality linens, towels, bug nets and provide a fully equipped kitchen with service for 10. We have an iPhone compliant whole house stereo as well as games and yoga mats. The fully equipped kitchen has a refrigerator, stove, blender, ice chest for day excursions, most everything you might need. The upstairs beds have reading lights and personal fans. There are 2 baths and 6-7 beds total. Our hot water shower has a great view of the ocean.

The upstairs bedroom is toddler safe and our caretakers are friendly, and great with kids. They can cook meals to your request for a fixed price $20/Dinner or you can purchase food and they will cook and clean for a set $10/person,. Maid service is included in house rental. We change sheets every 3-4 days. Meals and transportation are to be paid directly to our caretakers Jose and Elieth at the end of your stay. We require a 50% deposit to hold the house with the balance to paid on or right after your arrival. We take deposits using PayPal on our website (see our personal website shown below). Please Note: we cannot hold a reservation prior to having a PayPal deposit on our site .

We are 2 miles from the tip of Matapalo Point, and 8 miles to the airport in Puerto Jimenez.Over 8 acres of gardens surround the house. You can walk to 2 restaurants near us. Our home is rustic and tranquil offering a quieter experience away from the road unlike the Matapalo homes just up the way.

From the upstairs bedroom you have an ocean view of the Pacific and across the Golfo Dulce to the mountains of Panama. Scarlet Macaws and Toucans come most mornings to feed on our plentiful fruit trees. Our house is powered by the sun (Photovoltaic power) and cooled by offshore winds. You can use the house as a base to explore Corcovado National Park, or Drake Bay. Some folks like to fish or surf the Golfo Dulce. And some folks even take short trips to Panama. Others prefer to not ever leave the property. We are available to help arrange whatever side trips you have planned. Our caretakers can assist you while there.

The Osa Peninsula contains one of the last outposts of unspoiled coastal jungle. Corcovado Park is quite close, as are world class fishing and bird watching. We can pick you up at the airport and have available if you choose, on-site taxi, a knowledgeable guide, hearty meals, and laundry service. You may find a highlight of your trip is getting to know your wonderful Costa Rican host family. Or, if you prefer, you can relax at the house in complete solitude. Many honeymoons & weddings (5), have occurred here- ...very good for a beginning OR a renewal.

'....'The house is open, Costa Rica rustic, but clean and tidy, with exquisite materials and workmanship. It is clear a lot of labor and love have gone into making this a dream spot. We loved the elevated bed allowing for beautiful morning views of the sea and daily Scarlet Macaw visits. Your host family, Jose and Elieth are generous and warm hosts'... About Chris Whitby

A long search through Latin America starting in southern Mexico locales such as San Blas and Petalco in '73 and further on to Guatemala led to years of annual pilgrimages to Bali-Baja. In the late '80's I started traveling to Costa Rica and did not find my way down to the Osa until around 1990. This parcel I purchased around 1993- The greatest thing about buying this property has been getting to know local Costa Rican ways, & your hosts: the family of Jose Ramirez Cruz, Elieth Daughter Lilli and Son Joselito. Long May You Run......

Chris Whitby purchased this house in 1988

Why Chris Whitby chose Puerto Jiménez

This is the most beautiful part of Costa Rica. Perfect spot for family retreat, we have had 5 Honey Moons, couples & family retreats up to 10 persons-

This was originally part of a larger farm Ojo Del Agua At this point the farming operation had gone rather fallow. 1st lumber was harvested before there was a road into these parts Then at one point many trees on the coastal bluff were felled to provide a good terrain for dryland rice farming which still is practiced on the way out to Carate today. Thankfully much land is now in a variety of preserves and in the process of reforestation.

What makes this house unique

Nature's Splendor.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"This location, the land, the beaches, the authenticity of the locale is all so remarkable. Osa is truly a gem, we can feel it. We have been traveling the area for six weeks and love it here—it’s the best. The views of the scarlet macaws from your bed will be with us forever. "— Avra, Greece

Quinta Sonada... beautiful setting ... awesome house!

  • 5 of 5

Our family spent a week at Quinta Sonada and absolutely loved the house and it's beautiful location on the point. The house was extremely comfortable for a large family group. The kitchen was large and fully equipped with everything we needed to prepare meals. The beds were comfortable and had nice linens. The house was on beautiful grounds, it felt like being in an exotic park with Mango trees, birds, and howler monkeys. We surfed or paddle boarded everyday at the point. One of my favorite things was taking a cup of coffee down to the point and watching the sun rise! There were tons of trees to hang hammocks and relax in the afternoon. I have stayed at several houses in the Puerto Jimenez/ Cabo Matapalo area and I think Quinta Sonada is my favorite. I look forward to staying here again in the near future! Pura Vida!

Quinta Sonada, A sweet time on the sweet Gulf.

  • 5 of 5

Staying at Quinta Sonada was the highlight of our trip to Costa Rica. This place is exactly how it is described. You are situated right on the beach .My wife and i spent ten nights just hanging around and just enjoying Gods creation.Beautiful grounds, lots of birds, monkeys, and just a very relaxing time, nice breezes. We were there in Febuary, and we had no rain, and it was very warm.We would go swimming every morning and afternoon. We enjoyed swimming at Tomales beach and right in front of the house. The beach in the front has a rocky beach and water sandals are advised, but it is not a real problem to keep you from just walking out the door for a swim. The caretakers,Jose,Eliatha, and Joselito are there if you need anything. We had Eleatha cook us many dinners that were just great. The house is on a very good well, with good safe drinking water. There is a good fridge that keeps everything cold, and a good stove for cooking.Chris has the place stocked real nice with lots of books and cds .There is a couple Kayaks to take out which i did. When staying at Chris's place you have the option of heading out to explore the area or to just hang.We loved just hanging out and enjoying the place. We had no problem with mosquito's,but you should bring some citronella candles or coils just in case,Chris the owner is very easy to work.To sum it up the place is exactly as it is advertised and you will not be disappointed.

Pura vida what else can I say

  • 5 of 5

We loved this place. We stayed here for a week and enjoyed every minute of it. We enjoyed lazy days just walking around the grounds looking at the plants and the wild life. We saw more birds than we could keep track of. We kayaked most mornings and evenings and caught a few fish for dinner. The afternoon breeze was for lounging in the hammock under the shade of the house. We swam every day. This place is what it says it is and more. You can do as much or as little as you want here, as it is all here or close by. I have to mention one of the caretaker's dogs Etta, she never left our side the whole time we were there and all she asked for in return was a pat on the head. She made us feel safe and at home. The view across the bay is what dreams are made of. It is the most beautiful place we have stayed by far. Dreamy little farm for sure!!

Absolute Magic

  • 5 of 5

Let me just start by saying the photos do not do this place justice! It is absolutely beautiful and exactly what myself and family needed for our long awaited tropical vacation/adventure. The grounds were incredibly well maintained and cared for. Beautiful plants/trees everywhere. The wildlife at the house was unbelievable, Macaws, monkeys, Huge friendly toads, Iguanas to name a few. Chris was super friendly and easy going to deal with. All of our questions were answered asap. One of our main concerns with the open air layout of the place was of course mosquitoes! After 7 night stay did not see one mosquito! No bites at all! The open air feel is amazing and is exactly how I would have built in this private location. The care takers, Jose, Joselito and everyone were so helpful planning our daily adventures. Highly recommend the nature hike with Jose or Joselito! Zip lining turned out to be another amazing experience. After reading all the reviews on the place, the only negative hit I could find was about the rocky beach. Truth is with appropriate water shoes Chris's beach is amazing for swimming as the rock is easy to traverse and warms the water quite a bit. Also no worry of rays. Spent hours swimming! My family and I would love to go back to the Osa, and I would stay at Quinta Sonada again in a heartbeat! Thanks again for sharing your place Chris!

Absolutely incredible!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for 4 nights in March and it was wonderful. The house is beautiful and it is set up to take full advantage of the breeze and the view. The weather was extremely hot during our stay -36 degrees Celsius - but we were able to sleep comfortably with the provided fans.

I'm a bird lover and it was sooo incredible to watch scarlet macaws in the trees just outside the bedroom windows. The property has all kinds of fruit trees and wildlife. We cooked for ourselves as we had been eating almost exclusively in restaurants during the earlier part of our vacation. The kitchen is very well-equipped and the fridge can hold a huge amount of food. The area is really incredible and we enjoyed exploring on foot and by car. The owners (Phoebe specifically) were very prompt in all communications and provided very helpful information. The caretaker family were always available and accommodating. We did not require help cooking meals but we did ask them to do some laundry for us and to help to arrange a dolphin-watching tour. They were always available to answer questions but were not at all intrusive.

We highly recommend staying here. We hope to return ourselves to the Osa and to Quinta Sonada.

Wow

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights as part of our Costa Rica honeymoon. This is a beautiful open-air house with a gorgeous, well-kept property. The house is fully equipped with a kitchen, dining room, sound system, and hammock and couches for relaxing. The upstairs bedroom may be one of the loveliest places I have ever had the joy to wake up in. Wake up early, make some coffee, and go sit on the bench. Just do it.

The family was very helpful and it was a joy to get to know them a little bit. Joselito showed us around the property and the differences between the kinds of oranges, lemons, and limes that grow as well as a really cool "miracle fruit" that makes everything on your palate quite sweet. Tato and Eddy are the family's labs that are very friendly and came to check on us a couple times a day and hang out with us. They are truly some sweet dogs and made us feel like we were home. We wish we stayed longer to explore more of the Osa but our trip was short and we really just wanted to relax. This is off the grid a bit and we enjoyed staying off of our electronics. We spent a good amount of time just listening to some of the Putumayo mixes already at the house and cooking food and making juices and smoothies.

Elieth cooked us dinner our last night and it was the best meal of our trip. Seriously. Take any casado you have had the whole trip, and Elieth makes it better. More spice, more flavor, homemade tortillas, and leftovers! Jose grew the beans on their farm and they were excellent, even after a week of eating beans and rice.

I would recommend this place for anyone and everyone that likes adventure, natural beauty, food, and fun. The bugs were pretty rough in the evening until about 8 or 9:00, but hey, they are pretty rough here in the middle of Missouri as well. The only thing we wished was that the beach in front of and next to the house were more conducive to swimming and laying out. The beach is quite rocky and during high-tide would be quite dangerous to swim in. Playa Tamales is the closest beach to swim and lay out and it is a short drive, though about a 45 min - 1 hour walk.

Mark and Phoebe are very helpful and are available to answer any and all of your questions as well as make recommendations for food and adventures. We look forward to a future trip with a bigger group.

Cheers,

Andrew and Caitlin
